Trump and his White House are extremely out of touch with the workers whose paychecks they are holding hostage.<\/p>\n

Wilbur Ross said he doesn\u2019t \u201creally quite understand\u201d why workers are needing to go to food banks during the Trump Shutdown.<\/p>\n

\n

Wilbur Ross<\/a>: \u201cI know there are and I don\u2019t really quite understand why. Because as I mentioned before, the obligations that they would undertake, say borrowing from a bank or a credit union, are in effect federally guaranteed.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n

Wilbur Ross suggested it wouldn\u2019t be a big deal if 800,000 workers never got their paychecks because the GDP impact was not a \u201cgigantic number overall.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wilbur Ross<\/a>: \u201cYou\u2019re talking about 800,000 workers. And while I feel sorry for the individuals that have hardship cases, 800,000 workers, if they never got their pay \u2013 which is not the case, they will eventually get it \u2013 but if they never got it, you\u2019re talking about a third of a percent on our GDP. So it\u2019s not like it\u2019s a gigantic number overall.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wilbur Ross put the blame of safety concerns on air traffic controllers who are calling in sick after weeks without a paycheck.<\/p>\n

Wilbur Ross<\/a>: \u201cWell, I do worry about safety and it\u2019s kind of disappointing that the air traffic controllers are calling in sick in pretty large numbers.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n

Lara Trump wrote off the struggles of federal workers, saying it\u2019s just \u201ca little bit of pain\u2026 for the future of the country.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lara Trump<\/a>: \u201cTrump made the remarks after BOLD TV host Carrie Sheffield asked her \u2018in terms of the workers who are coming to work and not getting paid, what would you say to them?\u2019 \u00a0\u2018Listen this is, it\u2019s not fair to you and we all get that but this is so much bigger than any one person,\u2019 Trump responded. \u2018It is a little bit of pain but it\u2019s going to be for the future of our country and their children and their grandchildren and generations after them will thank them for their sacrifice,\u2019 she said.\u201d<\/p>\n

Larry Kudlow contradicted the warnings of most economists, and said the economy would recover immediately after the shutdown ends.<\/p>\n

Larry Kudlow<\/a>: \u201cKudlow says: \u2018This stuff going on now is temporary\u2019 and is predicting, \u2018the recovery will be almost immediate.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Larry Kudlow<\/a>: \u201cKudlow acknowledged that there are \u2018hardships\u2019 for federal workers and others affected by the shutdown, which is now in its second month, but said that \u2018resources will come back, I mean literally, the day of\u2019 the shutdown\u2019s end. \u2018We\u2019ve seen this before. There will be snapback. Immediately. That\u2019s my sense,\u2019 he said.\u201d<\/p>\n

Politico<\/a>: \u201cThe partial government shutdown was supposed to be a brief non-event for the economy. Now it\u2019s starting to look like a serious crisis that could nudge the U.S. toward recession and threaten President Donald Trump’s economic message during his reelection campaign.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n

Associated Press<\/a>: \u201cYet some independent economists doubt that the rebound would be enough to offset the initial damage. The economy is already bedeviled by slowing global growth, ongoing trade tensions and higher interest rates, which contributed to a plunge in home sales last month.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump claimed that \u201ca lot of\u201d workers said \u201cwe don\u2019t care\u201d about not getting paychecks.<\/p>\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cWell, that might happen. But I want to give them a chance to see if they can act responsibly. They should act responsibly. We’re talking about the border, and I have to say a lot of the people that aren’t getting their checks are letting us know we don’t care, you’ve got to solve the crisis at the border.
