In response to Ron DeSantis doubling down on downplaying the January 6 insurrection, <\/em>DNC spokesperson Ammar Moussa released the following statement:<\/em><\/strong> <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cRon DeSantis just doubled down on his long and consistent record of embracing dangerous conspiracy theories about the 2020 presidential election. Today, he once again downplayed the violent mob that attacked the seat of our democracy \u2013 and he still won\u2019t admit that Donald Trump lost the 2020 election and has said he would consider pardons for insurrectionists who attacked law enforcement officers. So much for that campaign reboot.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DeSantis today continued to downplay the violent insurrection on January 6, when a violent mob attacked the U.S. Capitol, assaulted police officers, and tried to overturn an election.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

DeSantis<\/a>: \u201cI think it’s ridiculous how much money that they pumped in for the Capitol Police. It was not an insurrection. These are people that were there to attend a rally and then they were there to protest.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DeSantis has repeatedly attempted to minimize the January 6 insurrection and refused to condemn Trump\u2019s actions<\/strong>.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Newsweek<\/a>: \u201cDeSantis Sidesteps Question on Trump’s Transfer of Power\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New York Times<\/a>: \u201cMr. DeSantis ducked only one question. A teenage boy invited him to condemn Mr. Trump\u2019s efforts to disrupt the peaceful transfer of power on Jan. 6, 2021. Mr. DeSantis declined to do so.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Florida Politics<\/a>: \u201cDeSantis on Thursday stopped short of blaming Trump, himself and enablers who fueled election conspiracies or refused to accept the election results.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tampa Bay Times<\/a>: \u201cOn Jan. 6 anniversary, DeSantis disputes that Capitol attack was an \u2018insurrection\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sarasota Herald-Tribune<\/a>: \u201cWith many blaming President Donald Trump and allies who encouraged him to challenge the election results for the lawlessness in the U.S. Capitol Wednesday, Gov. Ron DeSantis defended his support for the president\u2019s unprecedented push to overturn the election. DeSantis said after the election that Trump should \u2018fight on\u2019 and \u2018exhaust all options\u2019 in challenging the results.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Politico<\/a>: \u201cGov. Ron DeSantis on Thursday condemned the commemoration of the violent Jan. 6 Capitol riots as a way for Democrats and the news media to \u2018smear\u2019 supporters of former President Donald Trump.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DeSantis repeatedly encouraged Trump\u2019s election denialism and STILL won\u2019t even acknowledge that Trump lost the 2020 election.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rolling Stone<\/a>: \u201cRon DeSantis Still Can\u2019t Bring Himself to Admit Trump Lost in 2020\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Business Insider<\/a>: \u201cDeSantis still won’t say whether he thinks Trump lost in 2020\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WFLA<\/a>: \u201cGov. Ron DeSantis still wouldn\u2019t say if he believes President Joe Biden was \u2018duly and legally elected\u2019 in 2020. \u2026 Although DeSantis has been asked the question before, 8 On Your Side found no record of him actually answering it, in print or on-air.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CNN<\/a>: \u201c[DeSantis] said he wanted to publicly declare Trump the winner in Florida before the networks had but \u2018this is like the one time Fox News would not allow me to go on.\u2019 \u2018They\u2019re always begging me,\u2019 DeSantis said. \u2018They would not let me go on because I was going to say Trump won Florida.\u2019 \u2026 DeSantis went on to raise concerns about the election process in neighboring Georgia, dancing around the edges of the conspiracies that have rattled the state ever since Trump lost by less than 12,000 votes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DeSantis said he would consider pardoning January 6 rioters \u2014 including violent insurrectionists and people charged with assaulting police officers<\/strong>.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hill<\/a>: \u201cDeSantis says he\u2019ll consider pardoning Jan. 6 defendants, including Trump\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Independent<\/a>: \u201cFlorida Governor Ron DeSantis on Thursday said he would \u2018aggressively\u2019 use presidential pardons to free people who\u2019ve been charged or convicted of crimes \u2013 including former President Donald Trump.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DeSantis has used his seat in office to promote, embrace, and empower election deniers and insurrectionists.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Politico<\/a>: \u201cDeSantis won\u2019t say if he thinks 2020 was rigged. But he\u2019s campaigning for Republicans who do.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CNN<\/a>: \u201cDeSantis recently embarked on a national tour to boost the campaigns of some of the most fervent election deniers nominated by his party this cycle.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
