Ron DeSantis has made clear to the American people that when it comes to defending democracy around the world, he\u2019ll stand against our allies. As Russia wages an unprovoked and unjust war on Ukraine, DeSantis is siding with Vladimir Putin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ron DeSantis has repeatedly parroted Putin\u2019s talking points, calling Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine a \u201cterritorial dispute\u201d and doubling down on his position despite bipartisan backlash.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

DeSantis<\/a>: \u201cYou have Ukraine and Russia fighting over kind of the borderlands.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DeSantis<\/a>: \u201c[Ukraine] is more of a secondary or tertiary interest.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New York Post<\/a>: \u201cHis assertion, in a statement to Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson, that it is not in America\u2019s \u2018vital national interests\u2019 to become \u2018further entangled in a territorial dispute between Ukraine and Russia\u2019 was strongly criticized by numerous senior Republicans \u2014 including Sen. Lindsey Graham and Sen. Marco Rubio.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Florida Politics<\/a>: \u201cDeSantis reaffirmed the \u2018territorial dispute\u2019 framing soon thereafter. \u2018And the dispute at this point or the war at this point is not whether Ukraine\u2019s government is going to fall. They\u2019re fighting over territory on the far eastern part of the country between Russia and Ukraine.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

DeSantis has failed to lay out a clear position on U.S. support for Ukraine and refused to say if he would continue providing aid to counter Russia\u2019s aggression.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Washington Post\u2019s Josh Rogin<\/a>: \u201cThe war in Ukraine is the most important foreign policy issue facing the U.S. president today \u2014 but aspiring candidate Ron DeSantis can\u2019t articulate a coherent view. By trying to placate everybody, the Republican governor of Florida is pleasing no one. And his dodging is an insult to the voters he is courting.
