Ron DeSantis\u2019s entire presidential campaign has been nothing short of embarrassing, and tonight\u2019s town hall will be yet another reminder to voters why they are going to soundly reject his extreme MAGA agenda of banning abortion nationwide, repealing the Affordable Care Act, gutting Social Security and Medicare, and making permanent Donald Trump\u2019s tax giveaways for the ultra-wealthy.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>DeSantis is echoing Trump\u2019s calls to repeal the Affordable Care Act and has even promised to \u201cdo a lot more.\u201d&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxcarolina.com\/video\/2023\/12\/02\/gov-desantis-talks-about-healthcare-education-police-he-meets-with-upstate-voters\/\">Justin Dougherty, Fox Carolina<\/a>: \u201cIf Republicans get control of Washington, [with] you in the White House, what\u2019s your plan to repeal or replace the Affordable Care Act?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DeSantis: \u201cWell, look, that was a big failure. \u2026 It\u2019s a total mess. We\u2019re gonna have a comprehensive plan to lower people\u2019s costs, and yes Obamacare hasn\u2019t done it, so <strong>we\u2019ll transcend Obamacare, but I think you got to do a lot more than just that.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.staugustine.com\/story\/news\/local\/2012\/08\/04\/2012-08-04-6\/16169074007\/\">DeSantis<\/a>: <strong>\u201cWe must repeal ObamaCare.<\/strong> \u2026 I have no desire to \u2018improve\u2019 or \u2018reform\u2019 ObamaCare. I intend to repeal it.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.news-journalonline.com\/story\/news\/2013\/03\/24\/pull-the-plug-on-obamacare-to-protect-consumers-economy\/30616915007\/\">DeSantis<\/a>: \u201cObamacare should never have been passed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/shark-tank.com\/2013\/05\/16\/scandal-plagued-obama-may-have-jump-started-tea-party-movement\/\">DeSantis<\/a>: <strong>\u201cThe full and complete repeal of ObamaCare is one of the most critical issues of our time.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.huffpost.com\/entry\/ron-desantis-medicaid-florida-uninsured_n_63d37fbde4b04d4d18e52a03\">HuffPost<\/a>: \u201cAs a Republican serving in the U.S. House, [DeSantis] was part of a far-right caucus that voted against the first ACA repeal bill that leadership brought to the floor because, DeSantis and his allies said, it didn\u2019t undo enough of the law\u2019s protections for people with pre-existing conditions. GOP leaders eventually put forward a more aggressive repeal. DeSantis and his colleagues voted yes on that one, but it failed in the Senate.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>DeSantis is an anti-abortion extremist who would sign into law a national abortion ban.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/09\/28\/us\/politics\/desantis-abortion-trump.html\">New York Times<\/a>: <strong>\u201cDeSantis Says He Would Sign a 15-Week Abortion Ban as President\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/DNCWarRoom\/status\/1704135297254998527?s=20\">DeSantis<\/a>: \u201cAs president, I\u2019m going to welcome pro-life policies across the board at both [state and federal] levels.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/DNCWarRoom\/status\/1704167700392468656?s=20\">Radio Iowa<\/a>: \u201cOn Saturday at the Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition event, you said as president, you would support abortion restrictions at the state and the federal level. Would you sign the nationwide 15-week ban that the Faith and Freedom Coalition supports?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DeSantis: \u201cSo I&#8217;ve said from the beginning of this, as president, <strong>you put pro-life legislation on my desk, I&#8217;m going to look favorably and support the legislation.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DNCWarRoom\/status\/1679984265834950659?s=20\">Tucker Carlson<\/a>: \u201cYou signed a ban on abortion after six weeks in Florida. Would you do the same as president, nationally?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DeSantis: \u201cWell, I&#8217;m very proud to say Kim Reynolds is here and she signed a great heartbeat bill today. We were able to do that in Florida. We had a lot of opposition to that. I&#8217;m proud to have been a pro-life governor and I will be a pro life-president, so <strong>of course I want to sign pro-life legislation.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>DeSantis said he would consider pardoning January 6 rioters and has used his seat in office to promote, embrace, and empower election deniers and insurrectionists.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DNCWarRoom\/status\/1682450969139859467?s=20\">DeSantis<\/a>: \u201cI think it&#8217;s ridiculous how much money that they pumped in for the Capitol Police. <strong>It was not an insurrection.<\/strong> These are people that were there to attend a rally and then they were there to protest.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.heraldtribune.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2021\/01\/07\/desantis-tells-trump-to-fight-on-deflects-blame-for-lawlessness-at-capitol\/6580639002\/\">Sarasota Herald-Tribune<\/a>: \u201cWith many blaming President Donald Trump and allies who encouraged him to challenge the election results for the lawlessness in the U.S. Capitol Wednesday, <strong>Gov. Mr. DeSantis declined to do so.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/archives\/393136-it-doesnt-matter-what-banner-youre-flying-gov-desantis-touts-need-for-his-anti-riot-legislation\/\">Florida Politics<\/a>: \u201cDeSantis on Thursday stopped short of blaming Trump, himself and enablers who fueled election conspiracies or refused to accept the election results.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tampabay.com\/news\/florida-politics\/2022\/01\/06\/on-jan-6-anniversary-desantis-disputes-that-capitol-attack-was-an-insurrection\/\">Tampa Bay Times<\/a>: <strong>\u201cOn Jan. 6 anniversary, DeSantis disputes that Capitol attack was an \u2018insurrection\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/states\/florida\/story\/2022\/01\/06\/desantis-slams-jan-6-commemoration-as-way-to-smear-trump-supporters-1404316\">Politico<\/a>: \u201cGov. Ron DeSantis on Thursday condemned the commemoration of the violent Jan. 6 Capitol riots as a way for Democrats and the news media to \u2018smear\u2019 supporters of former President Donald Trump.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2022\/08\/17\/desantis-wont-say-if-2020-was-rigged-but-hes-campaigning-for-republicans-who-do-00052266\">Politico<\/a>: <strong>\u201cDeSantis won\u2019t say if he thinks 2020 was rigged. But he\u2019s campaigning for Republicans who do.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/09\/26\/politics\/ron-desantis-election-deniers-florida-2020\/index.html\">CNN<\/a>: \u201cDeSantis recently embarked on a national tour to boost the campaigns of some of the most fervent election deniers nominated by his party this cycle.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>DeSantis has a yearslong record of being a proponent of devastating cuts to Social Security and Medicare.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/02\/09\/politics\/kfile-ron-desantis-privatize-social-security-medicare\/index.html\">CNN<\/a>: \u201cA CNN KFile review of comments from DeSantis&#8217; 2012 congressional campaign found <strong>he repeatedly said he supported plans to replace Medicare with a system in which the government paid for partial costs of private plans or a traditional Medicare plan. <\/strong>In one interview with a local newspaper, DeSantis said he supported \u2018the same thing\u2019 for Social Security, citing the need for \u2018market forces\u2019 to restructure the program.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.semafor.com\/newsletter\/02\/09\/2023\/do-2024-republicans-have-a-tea-party-problem\">Semafor<\/a>:<strong> \u201cDuring his time in Congress, meanwhile, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis voted for a series of budget resolutions crafted by the conservative Republican Study Committee that would have voucherized Medicare for new beneficiaries, slowed Social Security cost of living increases, and raised the retirement age for both programs.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2023\/02\/09\/trump-desantis-biden-social-security-medicare\/\">Washington Post<\/a>: <strong>\u201c\u2018I support what Ryan is trying to do in terms of reforming entitlements,\u2019 DeSantis said in a 2012 newspaper questionnaire.<\/strong> \u2018It\u2019s not a voucher, it\u2019s premium support.\u2019&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs a member of Congress, DeSantis voted for three nonbinding budget resolutions calling for raising the retirement age and slowing future spending growth for Social Security.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe received a 0 percent rating from the Alliance for Retired Americans, an affiliate of the AFL-CIO. During a previous showdown over the debt limit in 2013, DeSantis said he supported including Social Security and Medicare in the negotiations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201c\u2018I think we need to restructure some of these entitlements,\u2019 he said in a 2013 CNN interview. \u2018I think we should try to look at entitlements, look at restructuring Medicare so it\u2019s delivering services at a lower cost to the taxpayer.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>DeSantis wants to make permanent Trump\u2019s MAGAnomics tax cuts, and he has failed to address the catastrophic economic failures that Floridians are facing, including some of the fastest-rising housing costs in the country, skyrocketing property insurance rates, and exorbitant health care costs.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/video\/2023\/08\/14\/watch-cnbcs-full-interview-with-florida-governor-ron-desantis.html\">DeSantis<\/a> on whether he\u2019d keep Trump\u2019s tax rates in place: \u201cThe current rates that are due to expire, <strong>we want to keep those rates in place.<\/strong> We don\u2019t want to see increases in taxes.
