When Donald Trump, Mike Johnson, and 2024 MAGA Republicans continue to villainize the LGBTQ+ community, they are showing us who they are \u2013 and we must believe them. The choice next November couldn\u2019t be more clear: President Biden\u2019s plan to pass the Equality Act and ensure rights and freedoms for all Americans, or Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans\u2019 agenda to undermine our freedoms, harbor hate, and enable discrimination against the LGBTQ+ community.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>President Biden made history when he signed the Respect for Marriage Act, enshrining into law every American\u2019s right to marry who they love.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2022\/12\/13\/biden-same-sex-marriage-interracial-law\/\">Washington Post<\/a>: \u201cPresident Biden on Tuesday afternoon signed the Respect for Marriage Act into law, granting federal protections to same-sex and interracial couples, and marking a milestone in the decades-long fight for marriage equality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c\u2018Today is a good day,\u2019 a jubilant Biden declared on the South Lawn of the White House, where thousands of lawmakers, gay rights activists and guests were gathered for the signing ceremony. \u2018A day America takes a vital step toward equality, toward liberty, justice \u2014 not just for some, but for everyone. Toward creating a nation where decency, dignity and love are recognized, honored and protected.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Donald Trump has a long history of opposing marriage equality and railed against LGBTQ+ rights during his administration \u2014 leaving the door open to appointing Supreme Court justices who would move to overturn <\/strong><strong><em>Obergefell v. Hodges<\/em><\/strong><strong>, which legalized marriage equality.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/transcript\/donald-trump-sits-down-with-bill-oreilly\">Bill O&#8217;Reilly<\/a>: \u201cAll right. Gay marriage, favor it?\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump: \u201cI&#8217;m against it.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>O&#8217;Reilly: \u201cWhy?\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump: \u201cI just don&#8217;t feel good about it. I don&#8217;t feel right about it. I&#8217;m against it and I take a lot of heat because I come from New York. You know, for New York it&#8217;s like, how can you be against gay marriage? But I&#8217;m opposed to gay marriage.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1PdSlN2lB2gkRo03r56ektFe0Xb3MBA5P\/view?usp=sharing\">Chris Wallace<\/a>: \u201cBut \u2014 but just to button this up very quickly, sir, are you saying that if you become president, you might try to appoint justices to overrule the decision on same-sex marriage?\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump: \u201cI would strongly consider that, yes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ron DeSantis opposed the Respect for Marriage Act and has a long history of railing against marriage equality for LGBTQ+ Americans.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cltampa.com\/news\/florida-gov-ron-desantis-says-theres-no-need-for-respect-for-marriage-act-14745584\">Florida Politics<\/a>: \u201cGov. Ron DeSantis is offering critical comments about legislation signed by President Joe Biden protecting all forms of marriage rights for consenting adults. The law codifies some gay marriage rights granted in the 2015 Obergfell v. Hodges decision, and includes protections of interracial marriage codified in 1967\u2019s Loving v. Virginia. On a Tuesday evening interview on \u2018The Ingraham Angle\u2019 atop a chyron saying the law \u2018restricts freedom of speech and religion,\u2019 DeSantis argued that there was \u2018no need\u2019 for the Respect for Marriage Act. \u2026 \u2018I don\u2019t think \u2014 there certainly was no need to do this. I do think those concerns are valid,\u2019 he added.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20121026110942\/https:\/www.flaccb.org\/CQP\/2012\/responses\/DeSantis_Ron.html\">Florida Conference of Catholic Bishops 2012 Questionnaire<\/a>: \u201cMARRIAGE: Defining marriage as the exclusive union of one man and one woman?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DeSantis: \u201cSUPPORT\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Nikki Haley has a record of opposing marriage equality, supported efforts to rail against legalizing gay marriage in her state, and continues to push a far-right, extreme, and hateful agenda against the LGBTQ+ community as a presidential candidate.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wistv.com\/story\/10730699\/nikki-haley\/\">2009 South Carolina gubernatorial candidate Nikki Haley, asked if she would sign a bill to legalize marriage quality in South Carolina<\/a>: \u201cNo. Marriage is between one man and one woman.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thestate.com\/news\/politics-government\/politics-columns-blogs\/the-buzz\/article13829042.html#storylink=cpy\">The State<\/a>: \u201cGov. Nikki Haley said she is doing \u2018my job to uphold the constitution\u2019 by opposing a federal lawsuit that seeks to overturn the state&#8217;s constitutional amendment banning gay marriage.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.postandcourier.com\/archives\/south-carolina-governor-and-attorney-general-say-state-is-not-required-to-honor-gay-marriages\/article_11f29cc0-0a4a-5cd1-9941-83285e0d2429.html\">Associated Press<\/a>: \u201cAttorneys for Gov. Nikki Haley and Attorney General Alan Wilson said in court papers filed this week that the state of South Carolina doesn\u2019t have to recognize gay marriages performed legally in other states and the nation\u2019s capital. That argument, filed in federal court Thursday, comes in response to a lawsuit earlier this year by a gay couple legally married in Washington, D.C., and now living in South Carolina.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/haley-says-desantis-parental-rights-education-law-florida-doesnt-go-far-enough\">Fox News<\/a>: \u201cRepublican presidential candidate Nikki Haley says that a controversial parental rights bill that bans teachers from giving classroom instruction on sexual orientation or gender identity in kindergarten through third grade that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed into law last year needs to be more stringent.\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Vivek Ramaswamy thinks marriage can only be between a man and a woman and has referred to the LGBTQ+ community as a \u201ccult\u201d on the campaign trail.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1IewJcXy_5hnd_V55DazPHXc8_gmMVkww\/view?usp=sharing\">Ramaswamy<\/a>: \u201cGod chooses who he works through. He puts us here for a purpose. And the value set that I was raised in, you know, what is it? Marriage is between a man and a woman. Marriage is not just between the two people who are married. It\u2019s, you\u2019re married before God. That\u2019s a higher commitment. It\u2019s also something that means that you have a commitment in a duty to see that through. The nuclear family is the greatest foundation for a society. And a husband and wife have a relationship with each other, but also a duty to stay in that marriage.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/vivek-ramaswamy-lgbtqia-movement-cult-not-about-logic\">Washington Examiner<\/a>: \u201cVivek Ramaswamy Says \u2018LGBTQIA+ Movement\u2019 Has Become A \u2018Cult\u2019: \u2018It\u2019s Not About Logic.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Chris Christie said he was \u201cnot a fan\u201d of marriage equality and even encouraged opponents of marriage equality not to give up the fight.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/id\/wbna43512460\">Christie<\/a>: \u201cI am not a fan of same-sex marriage. It\u2019s not something that I support. I believe marriage should be between one man and one woman. That\u2019s my view and that would be the view of our state because I wouldn\u2019t sign a bill like the one that was in New York.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/time.com\/2978824\/chris-christie-gay-marriage\/?xid=newsletter-brief\">Time<\/a>: \u201cNew Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said Saturday that while same-sex marriage is \u2018settled\u2019 in New Jersey, it\u2019s not time for opponents to give up the fight.
