Since signing his abortion ban with no exceptions for rape or incest last year, DeSantis has only taken his anti-abortion extremism further by vowing to sign a national abortion ban. None of these attacks on women\u2019s freedoms in Texas, Florida, or across the country would be possible without Donald Trump\u2019s crusade to \u2018kill\u2019 <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em> \u2013 voters will reject the anti-freedom MAGA agenda of Trump and DeSantis next year, just as they have done time and time again since the fall of <em>Roe<\/em>.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BidenHQ\/status\/1734768878041944166\"><strong>WATCH<\/strong><\/a><strong>:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh7-us.googleusercontent.com\/qXO4c3sxXjGCEID9WTQLiqs-MMbob-0XmgZMcFvm-L9fi4c0DWHmPKWB5-Fwjas3sXoEjNRcyTbslSgOsaLbRM9PnT_jt69XsQL3t59_OlF-aZXDMMZBFf7K1Foq4L8M8T_iy53fPlRvkm-M_WOWcg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BidenHQ\/status\/1734768878041944166\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>When asked this week about the Texas Supreme Court blocking Kate Cox from getting an emergency abortion, DeSantis bragged about signing extreme abortion bans \u2013&nbsp;and failed to mention that Cox might not be allowed to receive an emergency abortion under Florida\u2019s laws.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/miami\/news\/desantis-goes-after-trump-on-abortion-covid-19-and-the-border-wall-in-an-iowa-town-hall\/\">CBS News<\/a>: \u201cAsked about the case of Kate Cox, a Texas woman who sought an abortion when her health deteriorated as she carried a fetus with a fatal condition, DeSantis was vague. He said \u2018these are very difficult issues\u2019 and pointed to the Florida law&#8217;s exceptions allowing abortions when the mother&#8217;s life is in danger, though in Cox&#8217;s case, the Texas Supreme Court ruled that her pregnancy complications did not constitute the kind of medical emergency under which abortions are allowed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/fineout\/status\/1734765300539600923?s=20\">Gary Fineout, Politico<\/a>: \u201cThe 6-week ban has not yet taken effect. Fla&#8217;s current 15-week ban does not include an exception for rape and incest. DeSantis signed that measure into law as well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/themessenger.com\/politics\/desantis-says-trump-flip-flopped-on-abortion-should-be-consistent-in-your-beliefs\">The Messenger<\/a>: \u201cWhen DeSantis was asked about Kate Cox, a Texas woman who just lost a battle with her state&#8217;s court system where she sought an abortion after learning her fetus had a fatal condition, the Florida governor said \u2018these are very difficult issues.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDeSantis pointed to Florida&#8217;s abortion laws, which he helped institute, banning the procedure at 6-weeks. The Sunshine State also has exceptions to the law when the mother&#8217;s life is in danger, however, Cox was denied in Texas because the court deemed she did not meet the state&#8217;s exception requirements.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>DeSantis signed into law last year an extreme abortion ban with no exceptions for rape or incest that requires women in situations like Kate Cox\u2019s to get written approval by two physicians to receive an abortion.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/04\/14\/politics\/desantis-signs-abortion-ban-florida\/index.html\">CNN<\/a>: \u201cFlorida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed into law on Thursday a Mississippi-style anti-abortion measure that bans the procedure after 15 weeks of pregnancy without exemptions for rape, incest or human trafficking. The bill, which goes into effect July 1, does allow exemptions in cases where a pregnancy is \u2018serious risk\u2019 to the mother or a fatal fetal abnormality is detected if two physicians confirm the diagnosis in writing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2023\/04\/13\/florida-6-week-abortion-ban-bill-00091965?nname=florida-playbook&amp;nid=0000014f-1646-d88f-a1cf-5f46b4500000&amp;nrid=88e25235-6fa0-493d-b8a3-840fb5706cac&amp;nlid=630310\">Politico<\/a>: \u201cThe state\u2019s high court is currently weighing a challenge to last year\u2019s 15-week ban, with plaintiffs arguing the law violates a decades-old state privacy clause that previous justices cited in upholding abortion protections. The state is enforcing the 15-week ban as the court considers the challenge.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>In practice, some pregnant women in Florida have struggled to get care due to the strict provisions of DeSantis\u2019s abortion ban, finding themselves in situations similar to what Kate Cox faced in Texas.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.orlandoweekly.com\/news\/middle-school-aged-incest-victim-was-turned-away-from-florida-abortion-clinics-under-15-week-ban-32685185\">Orlando Weekly<\/a>: \u201cMiddle school-aged incest victim was turned away from Florida abortion clinics under 15-week ban\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2023\/04\/10\/pprom-florida-abortion-ban\/\">Washington Post<\/a>: \u201cTwo friends were denied care after Florida banned abortion. One almost died.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The abortion bans in Florida and Texas have created a fear of legal risk among physicians because the laws could charge doctors who provide abortion with severe consequences, including time in prison.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/05\/02\/health\/florida-abortion-term-pregnancy\/index.html\">CNN<\/a>: \u201cFlorida law allows abortions after 15 weeks if two doctors confirm the diagnosis of a fatal fetal abnormality in writing, but doctors in Florida and states with similar laws have been hesitant to terminate such pregnancies for fear someone will question whether the abnormality was truly fatal. The penalties for violating the law are severe: Doctors can go to prison and face heavy fines and legal fees.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/abortion-texas-ban-7d865cdfd75bdc6b2f4186f4d1e6e8bd\">Associated Press<\/a>: \u201cUnder Texas\u2019 bans, doctors who provide an abortion can face criminal charges that carry punishments of up to life in prison. They could also face lawsuits from private citizens, who are empowered to sue a person who helps a woman obtain an abortion, such as the doctor\u2019s staff. The laws do not threaten the mother with any legal consequences.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>DeSantis said he looked at Texas\u2019 extreme abortion ban as a model when considering his own abortion ban proposals.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wesh.com\/article\/texas-style-abortion-law-florida\/37477175\">WESH<\/a>: \u201cAt a stop Thursday, Gov. Ron DeSantis simply said he would look at what Texas did and see what, if anything, is proposed in Florida. \u2018We\u2019ve been able to to do pro-life legislation, I am pro-life, I welcome pro-life legislation,\u2019 DeSantis said. \u2018I\u2019ve always been somebody who does support protections for life and the best that we can do.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/09\/22\/politics\/florida-abortion-law-six-weeks\/index.html\">CNN<\/a>: \u201cAfter the Supreme Court allowed the Texas law to take effect earlier this month, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis told reporters that he was supportive of more abortion restrictions, saying, \u2018I\u2019m pro-life. I welcome pro-life legislation.\u2019 \u2018What they did in Texas was interesting,\u2019 the Republican governor said at the time. \u2018I\u2019m going to look a little more significantly at it.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Explicit exceptions for PPROM, a life-threatening health condition, were left out of both abortion bans DeSantis signed into law.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2023\/04\/13\/florida-abortion-six-week-ban\/\">Washington Post<\/a>: \u201c[Florida] House Democrats introduced dozens of amendments during debate, including one that would have added an exception for several pregnancy complications that have been impacted by abortion bans. The new measure \u2014 which passed the Florida Senate last week and is awaiting final passage in the House \u2014 adds exceptions for rape and incest but does not address PPROM. One of the sponsors of Florida\u2019s 15-week abortion ban defended the current law as written, saying the existing exception should be sufficient to cover cases with serious health risks. An explicit exception for PPROM is not necessary, she added. \u2018The bottom line is we value life, and we would like to protect life,\u2019 said former Florida state senator Kelli Stargel. \u2018We don\u2019t want to give a gaping exception that anyone can claim.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Earlier this year, DeSantis signed an even more extreme law banning abortion in Florida before many women even know they\u2019re pregnant and that maintained the requirement that two doctors approve and sign off on exceptions for fetal abnormality or life of the mother.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/2024-election\/ron-desantis-signs-6-week-abortion-ban-law-florida-rcna78989\">NBC News<\/a>: \u201cRon DeSantis quietly signs Florida&#8217;s 6-week abortion ban into law\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tampabay.com\/news\/health\/2023\/04\/14\/florida-6-week-abortion-ban-bill-desantis-sign-law\/\">Tampa Bay Times<\/a>: \u201cLate Thursday night, in a private ceremony in his office, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill to ban most abortions after six weeks of pregnancy. \u2026 His office announced the signing in a highly unusual news release sent out after 11 p.m., then updated his schedule to say the ceremony happened at 10:45 p.m.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/florida-six-week-abortion-ban-signed-into-law-ron-desantis\/\">CBS News<\/a>: \u201cThe bill makes it a third-degree felony for physicians or anyone who \u2018actively participate(s) in\u2019 an abortion in violation of the ban. It also prohibits state funds being used in any way to help a woman get an abortion from another state, and using \u2018telehealth\u2019 or mail to receive abortion medication.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>DeSantis has made clear he would sign a national abortion ban.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/09\/28\/us\/politics\/desantis-abortion-trump.html\">New York Times<\/a>: \u201cDeSantis Says He Would Sign a 15-Week Abortion Ban as President\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/desantis-commits-15-week-national-abortion-ban-time\/story?id=103582768\">ABC News<\/a>: \u201cIn an easily missed moment during Wednesday night\u2019s chaotic GOP presidential primary debate, Gov.
