Yesterday\u2019s bombshell reporting from the Associated Press exposed James Comer engaged in the exact kind of shady business practices he falsely accuses President Biden of – owning a shell company alongside convicted criminals in a shady attempt to disguise financial holdings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here\u2019s what they\u2019re saying about James Comer\u2019s hypocrisy getting put on full display:  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Associated Press<\/strong><\/a>: Interviews and records reviewed by The Associated Press provide new insights into the financial deal, which risks undercutting the force of some of Comer\u2019s central arguments in his impeachment inquiry of President Joe Biden. <\/strong>For months, the chairman of the House Oversight committee and his Republican colleagues have been pounding Biden for how his relatives traded on their famous name to secure business deals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But as Comer works to \u201cdeliver the transparency and accountability that the American people demand\u201d through the GOP\u2019s investigation, his own finances and relationships have begun to draw notice, too, including his ties to prominent local figures who have complicated pasts not all that dissimilar to some of those caught up in his Biden probe<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After this story first published Thursday, Comer responded during an appearance on FOX News, stating that Farm Team Properties \u201chas five different assets and lots of revenue.\u201d He didn\u2019t reveal what those other assets may be. He also falsely claimed that the donor, Darren Cleary, \u201cwasn\u2019t a campaign contributor\u201d <\/strong>at the time the property was purchased. Cleary and his family have donated to Comer\u2019s political campaigns since at least 2010, records show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Washington Post<\/strong><\/a>: In that August assessment, we also considered this issue of \u201cshell companies,\u201d noting that the term has a gauzy definition. But most of the corporate entities formed by Hunter Biden and his partners did have stated purposes. One, for example, was the aforementioned Biden law firm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Thursday morning, the Associated Press reported that Comer himself used a \u201cshell company\u201d for real estate purposes \u2014 something that some of the \u201cshell companies\u201d involved in his investigation also did.<\/strong> (Bartiromo asked him about it; Comer claimed that it was an example of the reporter\u2019s \u201cfinancial illiteracy.\u201d)
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But here\u2019s James Comer, four months later, suggesting not only that Hunter Biden did receive this money, but that it somehow influenced his father\u2019s policy decisions. Because, at the end of the day, that\u2019s what he and his colleagues want to convey. No evidence about Joe Biden\u2019s unacceptable actions but, instead, that Joe Biden is somehow linked to a seedy universe of criminality \u2014 a link and a universe they\u2019re still struggling to manifest.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

MSNBC<\/strong><\/a>: A Washington Post analysis from last month explained that many of these Biden family shell companies<\/strong> \u201care simply corporate entities like one that serves as the structure for Hunter Biden\u2019s law firm and another that\u2019s a consulting company he ran.\u201d The newspaper examined each of these business entities and found that \u201cthey were created because this is how business structures often work.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

But for a variety of leading Republicans, \u201cshell company\u201d is synonymous with \u201cshady,\u201d and no GOP official has done more to advance this narrative than House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Kentucky Republican has obsessively told the public about Biden shell companies, at one point telling Fox Business, \u2018Nobody creates shell companies.\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In hindsight, perhaps Comer shouldn\u2019t have used the word \u2018nobody.\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n


The New Republic<\/strong><\/a>: The man leading the Biden impeachment inquiry has apparently engaged in nearly identical behavior that he has hounded the president over.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

But a series of interviews and records searches conducted by the AP showed that the Kentucky Republican did something remarkably similar, transferring a six-acre parcel of land co-owned with one of his major campaign donors, Darren Cleary, to a shell company <\/strong>he created in 2017 with his wife.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The property has grown in value since its original purchase, jumping from a valuation of between $50,000 and $100,000 at the time of purchase to $500,001 and $1 million, according to Comer\u2019s financial statements obtained by the outlet. That flies in the face of not only Comer\u2019s self-purported, squeaky-clean reputation but also House rules, which require members of Congress to disclose all assets held by companies worth more than $1,000.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Newsweek<\/strong><\/a>: Mary Trump, Donald Trump’s estranged niece and critic, said the reports were “unbelievable” and called Comer \u201ca hypocrite.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

She added: \u201cJames Comer, who is pushing the sham Biden impeachment, allegedly made the same kind of business deal he’s accusing Hunter Biden of having made.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, responding to his impeachment inquiry, Biden called Republican impeachment plans \u201cbaseless.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement from the White House, he said: \u201cInstead of doing their job on the urgent work that needs to be done, they are choosing to waste time on this baseless political stunt that even Republicans in Congress admit is not supported by facts<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere is a lot of work to be done,\u201d he added. \u201cBut after wasting weeks trying to find a new Speaker of the House and having to expel their own members, Republicans in Congress are leaving for a month without doing anything to address these pressing challenges.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

MSNBC<\/strong><\/a>: Even Fox News host Peter Doocy has thrown cold water on the charade, <\/strong>saying Republicans haven\u2019t shown where Biden has committed any illegal acts. (Note: This is why Kentucky Rep. James Comer<\/strong> \u2014 who\u2019s been mocked repeatedly for his leadership of the baseless push \u2014 recently said he\u2019s no longer going to appear on Fox.<\/strong>) <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
