In response to Ron DeSantis touting his extreme anti-choice record, <\/em>DNC National Press Secretary Sarafina Chitika released the following statement:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEven Fox News wouldn\u2019t let Ron DeSantis get away with lying to Americans about his consistently cruel record of ripping away Floridians\u2019 rights, including a six-week abortion ban that he would take nationwide if given the chance. Now, DeSantis is trying to gaslight women by telling them he would be \u2018compassionate\u2019 on the issue of choice, when he\u2019s been on the campaign trail touting the extreme bans he signed into law \u2013 including a ban with no exceptions or rape or incest. Americans have rejected this kind of MAGA extremism we\u2019ve seen from DeSantis, Trump, and the rest of the GOP field time and time again \u2014 and they\u2019ll do so once more come November.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As DeSantis continues to tout his anti-abortion extremism, Florida Republicans have introduced a bill that would ban nearly all abortions.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Florida Phoenix<\/a>: \u201cVirtually all abortions would be illegal in Florida under new proposal filed by a House Republican\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DeSantis is running on a promise that he would sign a national abortion ban into law.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

New York Times<\/a>: \u201cDeSantis Says He Would Sign a 15-Week Abortion Ban as President\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ABC News<\/a>: \u201cIn an easily missed moment during Wednesday night\u2019s chaotic GOP presidential primary debate, Gov. Ron DeSantis said he would sign a federal 15-week abortion ban.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Radio Iowa<\/a>: \u201cOn Saturday at the Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition event, you said as president, you would support abortion restrictions at the state and the federal level. Would you sign the nationwide 15-week ban that the Faith and Freedom Coalition supports?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DeSantis: \u201cSo I’ve said from the beginning of this, as president, you put pro-life legislation on my desk, I’m going to look favorably and support the legislation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DeSantis<\/a>: \u201cAs president, I\u2019m going to welcome pro-life policies across the board at both [state and federal] levels.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tucker Carlson<\/a>: \u201cYou signed a ban on abortion after six weeks in Florida. Would you do the same as president, nationally?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DeSantis: \u201cWell, I’m very proud to say Kim Reynolds is here and she signed a great heartbeat bill today. We were able to do that in Florida. We had a lot of opposition to that. I’m proud to have been a pro-life governor and I will be a pro life-president, so of course I want to sign pro-life legislation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DeSantis<\/a>: \u201cDobbs<\/em> returned the issue to the elected representatives of the people. And so I think that there\u2019s a role for both the federal and the states.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DeSantis<\/a>: \u201cI’m a pro-life governor. I’ve signed pro-life legislation. I’ll be a pro-life president. \u2026 Of course, there’ll be executive actions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DeSantis last year signed an extreme law banning abortion in Florida before many women even know they\u2019re pregnant.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tampa Bay Times<\/a>: \u201cLate Thursday night, in a private ceremony in his office, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill to ban most abortions after six weeks of pregnancy. \u2026 His office announced the signing in a highly unusual news release sent out after 11 p.m., then updated his schedule to say the ceremony happened at 10:45 p.m.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CBS News<\/a>: \u201cThe bill makes it a third-degree felony for physicians or anyone who \u2018actively participate(s) in\u2019 an abortion in violation of the ban. It also prohibits state funds being used in any way to help a woman get an abortion from another state, and using \u2018telehealth\u2019 or mail to receive abortion medication.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DeSantis has also signed into law a different abortion ban \u2014 with no exceptions for rape or incest \u2014 that has created a horrifying reality for women in Florida.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

CNN<\/a>: \u201cFlorida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed into law on Thursday a Mississippi-style anti-abortion measure that bans the procedure after 15 weeks of pregnancy without exemptions for rape, incest or human trafficking. The bill, which goes into effect July 1, does allow exemptions in cases where a pregnancy is \u2018serious risk\u2019 to the mother or a fatal fetal abnormality is detected if two physicians confirm the diagnosis in writing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Orlando Weekly<\/a>: \u201cMiddle school-aged incest victim was turned away from Florida abortion clinics under 15-week ban\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Washington Post<\/a>: \u201cTwo friends were denied care after Florida banned abortion. One almost died.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CNN<\/a>: \u201cFlorida law allows abortions after 15 weeks if two doctors confirm the diagnosis of a fatal fetal abnormality in writing, but doctors in Florida and states with similar laws have been hesitant to terminate such pregnancies for fear someone will question whether the abnormality was truly fatal. The penalties for violating the law are severe: Doctors can go to prison and face heavy fines and legal fees.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While in Congress, DeSantis consistently voted to ban abortion nationwide.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

2017<\/a>: DeSantis voted for a national abortion ban that would criminalize doctors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
