Donald Trump said it himself: Without him, none of the extreme abortion bans being pushed by MAGA Republicans across the country would be possible. Now, ahead of what should be the 51st anniversary of Roe v. Wade<\/em>, we\u2019re ready to remind voters of the severe consequences of Trump\u2019s anti-choice extremism and what is at stake for women across America in this election, state by state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As MAGA Republicans in Florida and across the country continue to rip away women\u2019s freedoms as a result of Donald Trump\u2019s actions to overturn Roe v. Wade, <\/em>DNC National Press Secretary Sarafina Chitika released the following statement: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cRon DeSantis is so desperate to be Donald Trump 2.0 that he carried the torch for Trump\u2019s bans in Florida, where DeSantis pushed through extreme abortion bans in each of the last two years \u2014 including one with no exceptions for rape or incest that has created a horrifying reality for women in the state. These cruel and dangerous bans are part of a flood of extreme anti-choice legislation from MAGA-controlled state legislatures since Trump\u2019s handpicked judges overturned Roe v. Wade<\/em>. With every 2024 candidate now committing to a national ban made possible by Trump, states like Florida could be the new MAGA blueprint for the entire country \u2014 and make it clear that abortion will be on the ballot this November.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Florida, Republicans just introduced a bill that would ban nearly all abortions.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Florida Phoenix<\/a>: \u201cVirtually all abortions would be illegal in Florida under new proposal filed by a House Republican\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ron DeSantis last year signed an extreme law banning abortion in the state before many women even know they\u2019re pregnant.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NBC News<\/a>: \u201cRon DeSantis quietly signs Florida’s 6-week abortion ban into law\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tampa Bay Times<\/a>: \u201cLate Thursday night, in a private ceremony in his office, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill to ban most abortions after six weeks of pregnancy. \u2026 His office announced the signing in a highly unusual news release sent out after 11 p.m., then updated his schedule to say the ceremony happened at 10:45 p.m.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CBS News<\/a>: \u201cThe bill makes it a third-degree felony for physicians or anyone who \u2018actively participate(s) in\u2019 an abortion in violation of the ban. It also prohibits state funds being used in any way to help a woman get an abortion from another state, and using \u2018telehealth\u2019 or mail to receive abortion medication.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DeSantis has also signed into law a different abortion ban \u2014 with no exceptions for rape or incest \u2014 that has created a horrifying reality for women in Florida.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

CNN<\/a>: \u201cFlorida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed into law on Thursday a Mississippi-style anti-abortion measure that bans the procedure after 15 weeks of pregnancy without exemptions for rape, incest or human trafficking.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Orlando Weekly<\/a>: \u201cMiddle school-aged incest victim was turned away from Florida abortion clinics under 15-week ban\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Washington Post<\/a>: \u201cTwo friends were denied care after Florida banned abortion. One almost died.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CNN<\/a>: \u201cFlorida law allows abortions after 15 weeks if two doctors confirm the diagnosis of a fatal fetal abnormality in writing, but doctors in Florida and states with similar laws have been hesitant to terminate such pregnancies for fear someone will question whether the abnormality was truly fatal. The penalties for violating the law are severe: Doctors can go to prison and face heavy fines and legal fees.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Florida Republicans\u2019 anti-abortion extremism is overwhelmingly unpopular with voters, including Republicans.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NBC News<\/a>: \u201cRecent polling finds the six-week abortion ban is not popular among Florida residents of either political party. \u2026 75% of 1,452 respondents said they either somewhat or strongly opposed the six-week ban. That included 61% of Republicans.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Donald Trump is demanding credit for extreme abortion bans across the country and said he is \u201cproud\u201d of his work to help overturn <\/strong>Roe v. Wade.<\/em><\/strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cFor 54 years they were trying to get <\/strong>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong><\/a> terminated, and I did it, and I\u2019m proud to have done it. \u2026 Nobody else was going to get that done but me, and we did it, and we did something that was a miracle.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump has repeatedly bragged about his role in overturning <\/strong>Roe<\/em><\/strong> and has claimed credit for the extreme abortion bans that MAGA Republicans have passed around the country.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cAfter 50 years of failure, with nobody coming even close, I was able to kill <\/strong>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong>, much to the \u2018shock\u2019 of everyone \u2026 Without me there would be no 6 weeks, 10 weeks, 15 weeks, or whatever is finally agreed to.<\/strong> Without me the pro Life movement would have just kept losing. Thank you President TRUMP!!!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FWIW<\/a>: \u201cThis week, we found more evidence that the Trump campaign has no interest in \u2018moderating\u2019 on the issue of abortion. On Monday, his team began running new Facebook video ads targeting voters in Iowa, referring to Trump as \u2018THE MOST Pro-Life President in history.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cI’m the one that got rid of <\/strong>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong>, and everybody said that was an impossible thing to do. I put on three Supreme Court justices. Very few people have had that privilege or honor.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hill<\/a>: \u201cThe Trump administration formally backed a House bill Monday that would ban abortions after 20 weeks<\/strong>\u2026 It would make it a crime to perform or attempt an abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy, with the possibility of a fine, up to five years in prison or both.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s not just Trump \u2013 Nikki Haley and Ron DeSantis have also pledged to support a nationwide abortion ban and support extreme abortion bans before many women know they\u2019re pregnant. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
