In response to Trump claiming that he will make a major announcement on abortion next week, <\/em>DNC Spokesperson Aida Ross released the following statement: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t need to wait until next week to know where Donald Trump stands on abortion \u2013 he has been peddling the same anti-choice extremism for years. In his first term, Trump backed a national abortion ban and handpicked the Supreme Court justices who overturned Roe v. Wade<\/em> \u2014 and he\u2019s campaigning on that now in his sad bid for a second term. If Trump gets the chance, he\u2019s made it crystal clear that he\u2019ll take his losing agenda of ripping away reproductive freedom even further, and that\u2019s why voters will soundly reject him this November.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We expect more of the same from Trump next week: anti-choice extremism and plans to ban abortion nationwide that he\u2019s been peddling for years.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cThere of course remains a vital role for the federal government in protecting unborn life. And it\u2019s very important.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump on if he would sign a six-week national abortion ban<\/a>: \u201cI’m looking at all options.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cWe’ll pick something that’s going to be very, very good for pro-life \u2026 I\u2019m going to be in there pushing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In case you forgot: Trump already backed a national abortion ban in his first term.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hill<\/a>: \u201cThe Trump administration formally backed a House bill Monday that would ban abortions after 20 weeks. <\/strong>\u2026 It would make it a crime to perform or attempt an abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy, with the possibility of a fine, up to five years in prison or both.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cThere has to be some form of punishment [for women who have abortions].\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump continues to brag about his role in overturning <\/strong>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong>, which paved the way for MAGA Republicans to rip away reproductive freedoms across the country.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cFor 54 years they were trying to get <\/strong>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong><\/a> terminated, and I did it, and I\u2019m proud to have done it. \u2026 Nobody else was going to get that done but me<\/strong>, and we did it, and we did something that was a miracle.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cAfter 50 years of failure, with nobody coming even close, I was able to kill <\/strong>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong>, much to the \u2018shock\u2019 of everyone \u2026 Without me there would be no 6 weeks, 10 weeks, 15 weeks, or whatever is finally agreed to.<\/strong> Without me the pro Life movement would have just kept losing. Thank you President TRUMP!!!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump campaign radio ad<\/a>: “And Trump nominated conservative judges, leading to Roe v. Wade<\/em> being overturned.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FWIW<\/a>: \u201cThis week, we found more evidence that the Trump campaign has no interest in \u2018moderating\u2019 on the issue of abortion. On Monday, his team began running new Facebook video ads targeting voters in Iowa, referring to Trump as \u2018THE MOST Pro-Life President in history.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cI’m the one that got rid of <\/strong>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong>, and everybody said that was an impossible thing to do. I put on three Supreme Court justices. Very few people have had that privilege or honor.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cGetting rid of <\/strong>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong> was an incredible thing<\/strong> for pro-life because it gave pro-life something to negotiate with. Pro-life had absolutely nothing, being stuck in Roe v. Wade<\/em>, to negotiate with. \u2026 And look, everybody that was president wanted to get rid and tried to get rid of Roe v. Wade<\/em> … For fifty years, this has been going on. I was able to do it, and I was very honored to do it.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump\u2019s MAGA allies are fully on board, pushing for a deeply unpopular plan that would allow him to ban abortion without Congress.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnti-abortion advocates hope a Republican president will enforce a series of laws from the 1800s that will \u2018result in the end of abortion in every single state in America.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnti-abortion activists have their eyes on a bigger prize: If former President Donald Trump wins a second term in the White House, they hope and expect that he\u2019ll effectively ban abortions throughout the United States by prohibiting the shipment not just of abortion drugs, but any tools doctors could use to induce an abortion.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cRepublican presidential candidates have been under pressure from prominent anti-abortion organizations to back a federal ban. \u2026 Enforcing the Comstock Act could make it much easier for a future GOP administration \u2014 likely Trump\u2019s \u2014 to severely restrict abortion without lawmakers.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Washington Post reported that the former president was interested in \u2018Washington\u2019s role\u2019 in limiting abortion \u2014 meaning that anti-abortion groups\u2019 cries may not be falling on deaf ears. \u2026 A former Trump administration official told NOTUS that when it comes to Comstock, it\u2019s possible Trump would pledge to enforce it if it meant he\u2019d get endorsements.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cProject 2025, the presidential transition plan backed by many of Trump\u2019s conservative allies and embraced by other Republicans, calls for Comstock\u2019s enforcement.<\/strong> \u2026 Among the actions that the project considers a priority during this period, Chretien said, is enforcing Comstock.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

USA Today<\/a>: \u201cAmericans overwhelmingly oppose the next goal of many anti-abortion activists, to enact a federal law banning abortion nationwide. By 80%-14%, those surveyed opposed that idea, including 65% of Republicans and 83% of independents.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
