In response to Donald Trump lying about his record of wanting to ban abortion nationwide while <\/em>demanding credit<\/em><\/a> for ending Roe v. Wade and the resulting extreme abortion bans in states across the country, <\/em>DNC spokesperson Aida Ross released the following statement:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDonald Trump is a liar who will say anything to spin the American people, but facts are facts: He backed a national abortion ban as president and said the federal government has a \u2018vital\u2019 role in banning abortion nationwide. Women across the country are being denied critical care because Trump was \u2018proudly\u2019 able to \u2018kill Roe v. Wade<\/em>\u2019 and \u2018terminated\u2019 reproductive freedoms for all Americans. Every cruel abortion ban in effect is Trump\u2019s fault, and voters will see right through his lies and hold him accountable at the ballot box.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump can\u2019t rewrite history \u2014 he\u2019s said loud and clear that he\u2019d try to ban abortion nationwide if elected to a second term.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cThere of course remains a vital role for the federal government in protecting unborn life. And it\u2019s very important.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump on if he would sign a six-week national abortion ban<\/a>: \u201cI’m looking at all options.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cWe’ll pick something that’s going to be very, very good for pro-life \u2026 I\u2019m going to be in there pushing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump also backed a national abortion ban during his first term and said that women should be punished for receiving abortion care.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hill<\/a>: \u201cThe Trump administration formally backed a House bill Monday that would ban abortions after 20 weeks. <\/strong>\u2026 It would make it a crime to perform or attempt an abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy, with the possibility of a fine, up to five years in prison or both.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cThere has to be some form of punishment [for women who have an abortion].\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump loves bragging about how extreme abortion bans across the country are possible because he overturned <\/strong>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cI was proudly the person responsible for the ending of \u2026 <\/strong>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong>.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cFor 54 years they were trying to get <\/strong>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong><\/a> terminated, and I did it, and I\u2019m proud to have done it. \u2026 Nobody else was going to get that done but me<\/strong>, and we did it, and we did something that was a miracle.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cAfter 50 years of failure, with nobody coming even close, I was able to kill <\/strong>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong>, much to the \u2018shock\u2019 of everyone \u2026 Without me there would be no 6 weeks, 10 weeks, 15 weeks, or whatever is finally agreed to.<\/strong> Without me the pro Life movement would have just kept losing. Thank you President TRUMP!!!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump campaign radio ad<\/a>: “And Trump nominated conservative judges, leading to Roe v. Wade<\/em> being overturned.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FWIW<\/a>: \u201cThis week, we found more evidence that the Trump campaign has no interest in \u2018moderating\u2019 on the issue of abortion. On Monday, his team began running new Facebook video ads targeting voters in Iowa, referring to Trump as \u2018THE MOST Pro-Life President in history.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cI’m the one that got rid of <\/strong>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong>, and everybody said that was an impossible thing to do. I put on three Supreme Court justices. Very few people have had that privilege or honor.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cGetting rid of <\/strong>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong> was an incredible thing<\/strong> for pro-life because it gave pro-life something to negotiate with. Pro-life had absolutely nothing, being stuck in Roe v. Wade<\/em>, to negotiate with. \u2026 And look, everybody that was president wanted to get rid and tried to get rid of Roe v. Wade<\/em> … For fifty years, this has been going on. I was able to do it, and I was very honored to do it.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here are some of Trump\u2019s cruel abortion bans that women are forced to suffer under across the country:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alabama<\/a>: \u201cAbortions became almost entirely illegal in Alabama on June 24. A 2019 state abortion ban took effect making it a felony to perform an abortion at any stage of pregnancy, with no exceptions for pregnancies caused by rape or incest.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Arizona<\/a>: \u201cArizona court upholds state\u2019s 1864 total abortion ban\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Arkansas<\/a>: \u201cArkansas bans nearly all abortions after Roe v. Wade overturned\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Florida<\/a>: \u201cFlorida\u2019s new restrictions will chip away at the little abortion access left in the South\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Georgia<\/a>: \u201cGeorgia abortion ban remains in effect after state Supreme Court ruling\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kentucky<\/a>: \u201cAbortion is banned in almost all circumstances.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Louisiana<\/a>: \u201cLouisiana abortion ban preserved after lawmakers kill bill to call public vote\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Missouri<\/a>: \u201cRepublicans block attempt to add rape, incest exemptions to Missouri\u2019s abortion ban\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

North Carolina<\/a>: \u201cNorth Carolina\u2019s abortion law may make traveling to end a pregnancy impossible for some in the South\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

North Dakota<\/a>: \u201cNorth Dakota court keeps strict abortion ban in place even in cases of medical emergencies\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oklahoma<\/a>: \u201cAbortion is banned in almost all circumstances.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

South Carolina<\/a>: \u201cSouth Carolina\u2019s new all-male highest court reverses course on abortion, upholding strict 6-week ban\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

South Dakota<\/a>: \u201cAbortions now illegal in South Dakota following Supreme Court\u2019s ruling\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
