In case you missed it: Arizona Republicans voted against repealing a cruel 1864 abortion ban; MAGA Mike Johnson tried to dodge his record of co-sponsoring a national abortion ban; Kari Lake echoed Trump\u2019s violent rhetoric, telling her supporters to \u201cstrap on a Glock\u201d ahead of November; Trump cozied up to Big Oil and Gas; Trump\u2019s fundraising struggles continued; the chaotic Wisconsin GOP hired an election-denying executive director; House Republicans came out <em>in support <\/em>of junk fees; and House Republican Brandon Williams became the latest Republican to rail against investment legislation before taking credit for the billions being pumped into his district.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Arizona Republicans refused to repeal the state\u2019s cruel 160-year-old abortion ban, which was upheld because Trump overturned <\/strong><strong><em>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong><strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/04\/17\/politics\/arizona-house-abortion-law-repeal\/index.html\">CNN<\/a>: \u201cThe Republican-controlled Arizona House of Representatives once again failed to advance a repeal of the state\u2019s 160-year-old abortion ban Wednesday, days after the state Supreme Court roiled state politics by reviving the law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe vote is a blow to reproductive rights as well as GOP candidates in competitive races, who have been scrambling to distance themselves from the court\u2019s decision.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOn Wednesday, following two attempts to discuss a bill that would repeal Arizona\u2019s 1864 ban on abortions, lawmakers voted not to discuss the measure on the House floor.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe ban prohibits the procedure except to save the life of the pregnant person and threatens providers with prison sentences between two and five years.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>MAGA Mike Johnson tried to dodge his record of co-sponsoring a national abortion ban.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/BidenHQ\/status\/1780707404268945771\">Jake Tapper<\/a>: \u201cIf Donald Trump does win and if the Republicans keep the majority, will you bring the national abortion ban up for a vote?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mike Johnson: \u201cI don&#8217;t even know what you&#8217;re talking about.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jake Tapper: \u201cYou said you didn\u2019t know what I meant by a national abortion ban \u2014 I meant the [Life at Conception Act], which you are a co-sponsor of.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/house-republicans-life-at-conception-ivf-exception-2024-2?utm_source=copy-link&amp;utm_campaign=business-sf&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_content=topbar\">Business Insider<\/a>: \u201cMost House Republicans have cosponsored a bill declaring that life begins from the moment of conception, a position under increased scrutiny after the Alabama Supreme Court ruled that frozen embryos are \u2018unborn children.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis Congress, 125 House Republicans \u2014 including Speaker Mike Johnson \u2014 have cosponsored the \u2018Life at Conception Act,\u2019 which states that the term \u2018human being\u2019 includes \u2018all stages of life, including the moment of fertilization, cloning, or other moment at which an individual member of the human species comes into being.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe bill does not include any exception for in vitro fertilization (IVF), a reproductive treatment that allows mothers to fertilize several eggs outside the womb in order to increase the chances of a viable pregnancy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Kari Lake doubled down on Trump\u2019s dangerous and violent rhetoric by telling her supporters to \u201cstrap on a Glock\u201d ahead of this November\u2019s election.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/2024-election\/kari-lake-suggests-supporters-strap-glock-ready-2024-rcna147902\">NBC News<\/a>: \u201cKari Lake suggests supporters &#8216;strap on a Glock&#8217; to be ready for 2024\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cArizona GOP Senate hopeful Kari Lake told supporters they can \u2018strap on a Glock\u2019 to be prepared for the intensity of the 2024 campaign and urged military and law enforcement veterans to be \u2018ready,\u2019 as her race heats up in a key battleground state.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/kari-lake-says-gop-has-guns-and-trumps-back-2023-6\">Business Insider<\/a>: \u201cSpeaking at a convention of Georgia Republicans, Lake told hundreds of delegates that the \u201875 million Americans\u2019 who voted for Trump are armed and ready to defend him.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jeremyduda\/status\/1444484819312787459?s=20\">Jeremy Duda, Axios<\/a>: \u201c.@KariLake called for @SecretaryHobbs to be imprisoned over fictional election rigging claims. \u2018Frankly, I think she should be locked up.\u2019 Crowd starts \u2018lock her up\u2019 chant.
