In response to Donald Trump <\/em>threatening political violence<\/em><\/a> if he loses in November, <\/em>DNC Rapid Response Director Alex Floyd released the following statement:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDonald Trump\u2019s repeated threats of political violence are as horrifying and dangerous as they are un-American. Trump is hellbent on threatening our democracy, win or lose \u2013 he has already promised a \u2018bloodbath\u2019 if he loses in November, and he is pledging to be a \u2018dictator on day one,\u2019 pardon violent insurrectionists, and lock up his political opponents if he regains power. The American people have rejected Trump\u2019s violent extremism before, and they will do so once again in November because the stakes of this election could not be higher.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Edward-Isaac Dovere, CNN<\/a>: \u201cMany people have lost American presidential elections over the last 230 years – Trump is the only one to say about violence if he loses \u2018it depends.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shane Goldmacher, New York Times<\/a>: \u201cTrump does not dismiss the possibility of political violence around the election. \u2018If we don\u2019t win, you know, it depends,\u2019 he tells TIME. \u2018It always depends on the fairness of the election.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump also continued to praise and promise pardons for violent January 6 rioters \u2013 who he calls \u201chostages\u201d and \u201cpatriots.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Time<\/a>: \u201cTrump also tells TIME he might pardon the more than 800 men and women charged in connection with the Jan. 6 attack<\/strong>, most of whom have pleaded guilty. The assault left more than 140 law enforcement officers injured and sent lawmakers into hiding. More than 120 people have been accused of using a deadly or dangerous weapon or causing serious bodily injury to an officer, and members of extremist groups were found guilty of seditious conspiracy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTrump has sought to recast the insurrectionist riot as an act of patriotism. \u2018I call them the J-6 patriots,\u2019 Trump tells TIME. When asked whether he would consider pardoning every one of them, he says: \u2018Yes, absolutely.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Business Insider<\/a>: \u201cThen-President Donald Trump didn\u2019t want to specifically call for the Justice Department to prosecute January 6 rioters<\/strong> or forcefully condemn those who stormed the Capitol as unrepresentative of the MAGA movement.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
