On the anniversary of the signing of <\/em>Georgia\u2019s extreme abortion ban<\/em><\/a> \u2014 which went into effect thanks to Donald Trump \u2014 that outlaws abortion before many women know they are pregnant and threatens women and doctors with jail time, <\/em>DNC spokesperson Aida Ross released the following statement: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDonald Trump didn\u2019t just lay the groundwork for a horrifying reality for women in Georgia under the state\u2019s near-total abortion ban \u2014 he\u2019s actively endorsed it, saying bans like the one in Georgia work \u2018very brilliantly\u2019 while supporting allowing states to prosecute women who have an abortion. Reproductive freedom is on the ballot in this election, and Trump continues to make it crystal clear that he will take his extreme anti-choice agenda nationwide if given the chance this November.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump knows he is the reason Georgians live under a cruel law that bans abortion before many women know they\u2019re pregnant and threatens jail time. And he\u2019s proud of it.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cI was proudly the person responsible for the ending of \u2026 <\/strong>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong>.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Slate<\/a>: \u201cGeorgia Just Criminalized Abortion. Women Who Terminate Their Pregnancies Would Receive Life in Prison.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOn Tuesday, Georgia Republican Gov. Brian Kemp signed a \u2018fetal heartbeat\u2019 bill that seeks to outlaw abortion after about six weeks. The measure, HB 481, is the most extreme abortion ban in the country\u2014not just because it would impose severe limitations on women\u2019s reproductive rights, but also because it would subject women who get illegal abortions to life imprisonment and the death penalty.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

New York Times<\/a>: \u201cGeorgia Supreme Court Allows State\u2019s Six-Week Abortion Ban to Remain in Effect\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe ruling means that abortion remains banned in the state, with limited exceptions, after the sixth week of pregnancy \u2014 a point when most women have not yet even realized they are pregnant.<\/strong> With North Carolina now banning most abortions after 12 weeks of pregnancy, South Carolina after six weeks, and Florida doing the same, pending a legal challenge, the ruling ensures that abortion will be largely inaccessible in the Deep South, forcing women there to travel farther for care<\/strong>, to more distant states like Virginia or Illinois.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Washington Post<\/a>: \u201cMonica Simpson, executive director of SisterSong Women of Color Reproductive Justice Collective, the lead plaintiff in the case, called the Tuesday decision \u2018devastating.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018This abortion ban has forced Georgians to travel across state lines at great expense or continue the life-altering consequences of pregnancy and childbirth against their wills,<\/strong>\u2019 she said.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Georgia Recorder<\/a>: \u201cMore consequentially, it raises risks for women who want to end their pregnancies and those who help them do so. Abortion rights advocates express concerns that murder charges could be leveled against abortion patients along with conspiracy charges against people who help them.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump endorsed every extreme abortion ban across the country and supported allowing states to prosecute women who have an abortion.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cWe broke <\/strong>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong> and we did something that nobody thought was possible.
