Today, on the anniversary of MAGA Governor Brian Kemp signing Georgia\u2019s extreme abortion ban into law, DNC spokesperson Jackie Bush released the following statement: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThanks to Donald Trump and his MAGA minions, women in Georgia and throughout the South have lost critical access to reproductive care, emergency treatment and more. Georgia has one of the worst maternal mortality rates in the nation, but instead of focusing on efforts to expand access to health care, Republicans in the state are doubling down on extreme and unpopular measures to make it harder for doctors to provide care. Come November, Georgians, Southerners, and Americans from every corner of the nation will go to the polls knowing that Joe Biden is the only choice in this election who will fight to give us more freedoms, not take them away.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thanks to Trump, every state in the South besides Virginia has enacted an extreme abortion ban. <\/strong>
<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alabama<\/a>: \u201cAbortions became almost entirely illegal in Alabama on June 24. A 2019 state abortion ban took effect making it a felony to perform an abortion at any stage of pregnancy, with no exceptions for pregnancies caused by rape or incest.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Arkansas<\/a>: \u201cArkansas bans nearly all abortions after Roe v. Wade overturned\u201d
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Florida<\/a>: \u201cFlorida\u2019s 6-week abortion ban could displace thousands each month in a region where access is already severely limited\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Georgia<\/a>: \u201cGeorgia abortion ban remains in effect after state Supreme Court ruling\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kentucky<\/a>: \u201cAbortion is banned in almost all circumstances.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Louisiana<\/a>: \u201cLouisiana abortion ban preserved after lawmakers kill bill to call public vote\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mississippi<\/a>: \u201cHow abortion ban has impacted Mississippi one year after Roe v. Wade was overturned\u201d
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

North Carolina<\/a>: \u201cLegislation banning most abortions after 12 weeks of pregnancy will become law in North Carolina after the state\u2019s Republican-controlled General Assembly successfully overrode the Democratic governor\u2019s veto.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Texas<\/a>: \u201cTeen pregnancies on the rise for the first time in 15 years after Texas bans abortion, study shows.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Georgia\u2019s extreme abortion ban is deeply unpopular amongst Georgians.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Georgia Recorder<\/a>: \u201ca majority of Georgians \u2013 particularly Black voters \u2013 continue to oppose the state\u2019s new restrictive abortion law. Nearly 62% objected overall, with about 54% saying they strongly opposed it. Black respondents were the most adamantly against it, with 86.4% of them saying they firmly disapprove of the law.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Georgia\u2019s abortion ban disproportionately hurts Black women \u2014 in a state where the Black maternal mortality is already unacceptably high.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

11Alive<\/a>: \u201cIt also provides a look at who the bill may impact the most: Black people, younger patients and those with less education. Researchers said with the new restrictions, many of these patients won’t be able to access safe, legal abortions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018Lack of access to safe and legal abortion could also add to the maternal mortality rate in Georgia,\u2019 Mosley said, \u2018with numbers showing a possible increase of 18%.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn 2019, according to the Center for Reproductive Rights, Georgia had the worst maternal mortality ratio of any state in the country. Black, American Indian\/Alaska and Indigenous women are also two to three times more \u2018likely to die from a pregnancy-related cause than white women.\u2019 Experts said overturning Roe v. Wade will disproportionately affect communities of color in Georgia, as for years, they have already faced many<\/p>\n\n\n\n

barriers to maternal health.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thanks to Trump, Georgia bans abortion before many women even know they\u2019re pregnant. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wall Street Journal<\/a>: \u201cThe six-week deadline comes soon after many pregnant women miss their first period.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGeorgia\u2019s six-week window has prompted women to pay closer attention to when they might be pregnant and visit clinics earlier, researchers and providers say. Women are calling the Feminist Women\u2019s Health Center if their period is even one day late or they have the first hint of early pregnancy symptoms like nausea, clinic staffers said.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thanks to Trump, access to care for women in Georgia and throughout the South has been decimated.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Capital B<\/a>: \u201cSince the U.S. Supreme Court overturned 1973\u2019s Roe v. Wade decision last summer, access to abortion in the South has become increasingly limited. It\u2019s a region where many of the country\u2019s strictest abortion laws have taken hold, largely pushed by Republican lawmakers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bloomberg<\/a>: \u201cThe Florida law \u2018really does cut off abortion across the entire southeast region of the United States,\u2019 said Amita Vyas, an associate professor of public health at the George Washington University.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump is proudly taking credit for extreme abortions bans throughout the country.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cFor 54 years they were trying to get <\/strong>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong><\/a> terminated, and I did it, and I\u2019m proud to have done it. \u2026 Nobody else was going to get that done but me<\/strong>, and we did it, and we did something that was a miracle.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FWIW<\/a>: \u201cThis week, we found more evidence that the Trump campaign has no interest in \u2018moderating\u2019 on the issue of abortion. On Monday, his team began running new Facebook video ads targeting voters in Iowa, referring to Trump as \u2018THE MOST Pro-Life President in history.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
