In response to Donald Trump <\/em>asking<\/em><\/a> Big Oil and Gas CEOs to fund his campaign while vowing to roll back environmental regulations, <\/em>DNC Rapid Response Director Alex Floyd released the following statement: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cClimate denier Donald Trump will do anything for his Big Oil and Gas special interest backers \u2014 as long as they donate $1 billion to his campaign. While President Biden tackles the climate crisis head on and invests in new sustainable industries, Trump is begging his ultra-wealthy friends to save his cash-strapped campaign by promising to gut environmental protections and threaten jobs for hardworking Americans. Trump is gladly selling out our planet and our economy to anyone who will write him a check \u2013 but the American people are done with his shady political games.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NEW: Donald Trump asked Big Oil and Gas CEOs to give $1 billion to his campaign and vowed to immediately roll back environmental regulations if reelected.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou all are wealthy enough, [Trump] said, that you should raise $1 billion to return me to the White House.<\/strong> At the dinner, he vowed to immediately reverse dozens of President Biden\u2019s environmental rules and policies and stop new ones from being enacted, <\/strong>according to people with knowledge of the meeting.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGiving $1 billion would be a \u2018deal,\u2019 Trump said<\/strong>, because of the taxation and regulation they would avoid thanks to him, according to the people. \u2026 Trump\u2019s remarkably blunt and transactional pitch reveals how the former president is targeting the oil industry to finance his reelection bid.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe contrast between the two candidates on climate policy could not be more stark. \u2026 Trump has called climate change a \u201choax,\u201d and his administration weakened or wiped out more than 125 environmental rules and policies over four years.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDespite Trump\u2019s huge fundraising ask, oil donors and their allies have yet to donate hundreds of millions to his campaign. They have contributed more than $6.4 million to Trump\u2019s joint fundraising committee in the first three months of this year, according to an analysis by the advocacy group Climate Power.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
