Texas, <\/em><strong><em>DNC spokesperson Maddy Mundy<\/em><\/strong><em> released the following statement:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOne week since the Texas Republican Party voted on a platform that opened the door to subjecting women who obtain abortion care to the death penalty, Texas women are again under siege. Today\u2019s Texas Supreme Court decision continues to imperil women\u2019s health, safety, and lives \u2013 and Donald Trump is to blame. Trump owns the nightmare women in Texas are living through and he wants to take life-threatening laws like these nationwide through a national abortion ban. Texans and Americans across the country won\u2019t stand for these relentless assaults on their rights and will reject Donald Trump\u2019s MAGA agenda this November.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Texas Supreme Court rejected a challenge by Amanda Zurawski and 19 other women and doctors over the state\u2019s near-total abortion laws, which stopped many of them from getting medical care for pregnancy complications.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2024\/05\/31\/texas-abortion-ban-supreme-court\">Axios<\/a>: \u201cTexas Supreme Court rejects lawsuit over abortion ban exceptions\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.texastribune.org\/2024\/05\/31\/texas-supreme-court-zurawski-abortion\/\">Texas Tribune<\/a>: \u201cThe Texas Supreme Court has unanimously rejected the most significant challenge to Texas\u2019 new abortion laws yet, ruling Friday that the medical exceptions in the law were broad enough to withstand constitutional challenge.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/texas-supreme-court-rejects-challenge-abortion-ban-medical-exceptions-rcna154896\">NBC News<\/a>: \u201cZurawski v. Texas was the first legal challenge to the state&#8217;s bans that focused specifically on women with complicated pregnancies.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOne of the lead plaintiffs, Amanda Zurawski, has said she nearly died in August 2022 when doctors delayed giving her a medically necessary abortion after she had catastrophic complications while 18 weeks pregnant. After her health deteriorated, her doctors eventually performed an abortion. She said she later went into sepsis and spent three days in the intensive care unit.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>For the Texas Republican Party, banning abortion isn\u2019t enough \u2013 these extremists voted on a platform that opened the door to the death penalty for abortion patients.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.huffpost.com\/entry\/texas-gop-appears-to-put-death-penalty-for-abortion-patients-on-2024-wish-list_n_665765b4e4b05212274abd0b?11\">HuffPost<\/a>: \u201cThe Republican Party of Texas is considering a platform that appears to endorse the death penalty for abortion providers and patients.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c\u2018From criminalization to calls for the death penalty, Trump has emboldened MAGA state extremists across the country to persecute women,\u2019 Mundy said. \u2018Trump endorses prosecuting women, he supports a nationwide abortion ban, and is responsible for millions of women now struggling to access fundamental health care. It&#8217;s totally irrelevant, because the states are going to make those decisions.<\/strong>\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TheDemocrats\/status\/1592722259101495301\">Trump<\/a>: <strong>\u201cThere has to be some form of punishment [for women who have an abortion].\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/6972022\/donald-trump-transcript-2024-election\/?utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=sfmc&amp;utm_campaign=newsletter+brief+default+ac&amp;utm_content=+++20240430+++body&amp;et_rid=206611744&amp;lctg=206611744\">Interviewer<\/a>: \u201cSo just to be clear, then: You won&#8217;t commit to vetoing the bill if there&#8217;s federal restrictions\u2014federal abortion restrictions?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump: <strong>\u201cI won&#8217;t have to commit to it.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[&#8230;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Interviewer: \u201cWould you veto [the Life at Conception Act]?\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump: \u201c<strong>I don&#8217;t have to do anything about vetoes<\/strong>, because we now have it back in the states.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Trump is working closely with his Project 2025 allies, whose agenda includes restricting access to contraceptives if Trump gets back in the White House.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/politics\/politics-features\/maga-plan-attack-birth-control-surveil-women-ban-abortion-pill-1234934807\/\">Rolling Stone<\/a>: \u201cInside the MAGA Plan to Attack Birth Control, Surveil Women and Ban the Abortion Pill\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe attacks on mifepristone and resurrection of Comstock stand out as particularly harmful proposals, but they are only two of the dozens of ways <strong>the Republicans behind Project 2025 envision restricting access to abortion and contraception if they win the White House next year.<\/strong> Elsewhere in the document,<strong> there are proposals to eliminate the morning-after pill from the Affordable Care Act\u2019s contraceptive mandate under the rationale that it is a \u2018potential abortifacient.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Heritage\/status\/1662534135762624520\">Heritage Foundation<\/a>: \u201cConservatives have to lead the way in \u2026 <strong>ending<\/strong> \u2026 <strong>senseless use of birth control pills.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2024\/04\/01\/anti-abortion-movement-ivf-war-00149766\">Politico<\/a>: <strong>\u201cOrganizations including Heritage, former Vice President Mike Pence\u2019s group Advancing American Freedom, and the Southern Baptist Convention\u2019s public advocacy-focused Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission <\/strong>have worked behind the scenes over the last few weeks to distribute talking points, circulate policy recommendations and educate Republican officials and their staff about their ethical concerns with how IVF is commonly practiced in the United States.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2023\/11\/13\/trump-loyalists-2024-presidential-election\">Axios<\/a>: <strong>\u201cThis is undeniably a Trump-driven operation.<\/strong> The biggest tell: Johnny McEntee \u2014 one of Trump&#8217;s closest White House aides, and his most fervent internal loyalty enforcer \u2014 is a senior adviser to Project 2025. One of the most powerful architects is Stephen Miller, a top West Wing adviser for the Trump administration.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2024\/04\/26\/trump-2024-fec-00154727\">Politico<\/a>: \u201cOn Tuesday, the Trump campaign sent a letter to pro-Trump, external organizations asking them to attend an \u2018entirely off-the-record, private,\u2019 and \u2018invite-only\u2019 meeting with senior campaign officials, according to a copy of the letter obtained by POLITICO. The sit-down, which the letter describes as a \u2018meeting of the political minds,\u2019 is <strong>aimed at discussing \u2018collaborat[ion]\u2019 and \u2018priorities and plans\u2019 for the general election<\/strong>.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Trump loves to brag about how he overturned <\/strong><strong><em>Roe <\/em><\/strong><strong>and paved the way for cruel abortion bans across the country.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/BidenHQ\/status\/1777313236288712970\">Trump<\/a>: <strong>\u201cI was proudly the person responsible for the ending of \u2026 <\/strong><strong><em>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong><strong>.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BidenHQ\/status\/1745277154236260693\">Trump<\/a>: <strong>\u201cFor 54 years they were trying to get <\/strong><strong><em>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong><strong> terminated, and I did it, and I\u2019m proud to have done it. \u2026 Nobody else was going to get that done but me<\/strong>, and we did it, and we did something that was a miracle.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/110384051064378318\">Trump<\/a>: \u201cAfter 50 years of failure, with nobody coming even close, <strong>I was able to kill <\/strong><strong><em>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong>, much to the \u2018shock\u2019 of everyone \u2026 <strong>Without me there would be no 6 weeks, 10 weeks, 15 weeks, or whatever is finally agreed to.<\/strong> Without me the pro Life movement would have just kept losing. Thank you President TRUMP!!!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsmax.com\/newsmax-tv\/abortion-unborn-roe-v-wade\/2023\/05\/16\/id\/1120077\/\">Trump<\/a>: <strong>\u201cI&#8217;m the one that got rid of <\/strong><strong><em>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong>, and everybody said that was an impossible thing to do. I put on three Supreme Court justices.
