Following Trump\u2019s MAGA Veepstakes contenders celebrating the outcome of Trump v. United States,<\/em> DNC Rapid Response Director Alex Floyd released the following statement: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cToday, Donald Trump\u2019s Supreme Court justices opened the door for him to carry out his radical and dangerous agenda of being a dictator on \u2018day one,\u2019 and Trump has been clear that he is looking for a vice president who will do the same. Three and a half years later, Trump hasn\u2019t expressed a shred of regret for attempting to overturn the will of American voters or for the violence and destruction of January 6 \u2014 instead, he\u2019s focused on selecting a vice president who won\u2019t stand in his way when he threatens to undermine our democracy again. The MAGA veepstakes contenders are proving to Trump today how far they will go to put him above the law, falling all over themselves to applaud this dangerous SCOTUS ruling as they line up to join his radical, unpatriotic, anti-democracy campaign. The courts won\u2019t stop Trump and neither will his potential running mates \u2014 but the American people will stand up and save our democracy at the ballot box this November.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Donald Trump\u2019s MAGA veepstakes contenders made clear today that they support Trump\u2019s attacks on our democracy and efforts to be a dictator on \u201cday one.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Doug Burgum<\/strong><\/a>: \u201cThis is a big win for America, and it\u2019s a big win for the Constitution.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tim Scott<\/strong><\/a>: \u201cThe Supreme Court has ruled in [Trump\u2019s] favor, in opposition to the weaponizing of the justice system.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

J.D. Vance<\/strong><\/a>: \u201cA massive win, not just for Trump but the rule of law. I\u2019m still digesting but this may well destroy all of Jack Smith\u2019s case against the president.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Byron Donalds<\/strong><\/a>: \u201cWithout immunity, the President of the United States is unable to properly serve the American people and defend our nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn today\u2019s precedent-setting, 6-3 decision, the Supreme Court did right by President Trump, they did right by the American people, and they did right by the hallowed institution of the Presidency of the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cJack Smith\u2019s indictment is a disgrace to our legal system and it’s time that our nation turns the page on this egregious lawfare because President Trump did nothing wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ben Carson<\/strong><\/a>: \u201cToday\u2019s HISTORIC SCOTUS victory on presidential immunity has stopped Biden and the Department of \u2018Justice\u2019 from their attempt to twist the law in order to persecute his political opponents. They know they can\u2019t beat him at the ballot box so they tried to tie him up in their campaign of lawfare. Luckily, SCOTUS held the line against this tyranny showing that America is still a country that upholds the rule of law.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elise Stefanik<\/strong><\/a>: \u201cToday\u2019s Supreme Court decision is a historic victory for President Donald Trump, the Constitution, the rule of law, and the American people. The President of the United States must have immunity, like Members of Congress and federal judges, which is necessary for any presidency to function properly. Tom Cotton<\/strong><\/a>: \u201cThe Supreme Court today upheld the rule of law and protected our Constitution. Our Founders intended for the president to have immunity, especially from lawless, political prosecutions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kristi Noem<\/strong><\/a>: \u201cLooks like @realdonaldtrump was right, again. He DOES have immunity for official actions that he took as our President.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vivek Ramaswamy<\/strong><\/a>: \u201cThe Supreme Court just held that a U.S. President \u2018may not be prosecuted for exercising his core constitutional powers, and he is entitled, at a minimum, to a presumptive immunity from prosecution for all his official acts.\u2019 It\u2019s a decision that would make our Founders proud.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump wants an election denier to be his running mate, and his VP contenders are desperately parroting his lies and refusing to commit to accepting this November\u2019s election results.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NBC News<\/a>: \u201cBurgum<\/strong>, like other contenders, has declined to comment on whether he would accept the 2024 election results.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

HuffPost<\/a>: \u201c[J.D. Vance<\/strong>] said he would accept a Biden win only if he considered the election to be legitimate.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Washington Post<\/a>: \u201cSenator Marco Rubio<\/strong> of Florida, who has been floated as a possible running mate for former President Donald J. Trump, on Sunday refused to commit to accepting the results of the 2024 presidential election and repeated conspiracy theories about the 2020 election.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Washington Post<\/a>: \u201cSen. Tim Scott<\/strong> (R-S.C.) was pressed at least six times in a TV interview Sunday on whether he would accept this November\u2019s results. He repeatedly declined to do so \u2026 He continued to evade the question even as the interviewer, NBC News\u2019s Kristen Welker, reminded him that a \u2018hallmark of our democracy is that both candidates agree to a peaceful transfer of power.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NBC News<\/a>: \u201cIn an appearance on NBC News\u2019 \u2018Meet the Press\u2019 in January, Stefanik<\/strong> declined to commit to accepting the 2024 election results.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Laura Coates, CNN<\/a>: \u201cWill you accept the results of the 2024 election regardless of who wins, yes or no?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ben Carson<\/strong>: \u201cI will accept the results if it\u2019s done in a fair and transparent way. \u2026 let me put it this way: In the 2020 election, there were a lot of irregularities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abby Phillip, CNN<\/a>: \u201cIf Donald Trump loses the election in 2024, will you accept the results of that election?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Josh Meny, 2 News Nevada<\/a>: \u201cDo you have any regrets about picking Mike Pence as your vice president? And what will you do differently this time around when you\u2019re vetting your VP?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump: \u201cMike did a good job until the end when he didn’t have the courage to do what you have to do. \u2026 if he did that, I believe you would have had different election results.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NBC News<\/a>: \u201cNone of these potential vice presidential picks have committed to accepting the 2024 election results, whether Trump wins or loses.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Washington Post<\/a>: \u201cTop Republicans, led by Trump, refuse to commit to accept 2024 election results\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe question has become something of a litmus test, particularly among the long list of possible running mates for Trump. \u2026<\/strong> The GOP\u2019s desire to appease Trump\u2019s fixation on 2020 now appears to loom over his search for a running mate.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

MSNBC<\/a>: \u201cPotential GOP running mates hedge on accepting election results\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Axios<\/a>: \u201cTrump and his allies will want a VP pick that is more willing to comply with the former president’s wishes<\/strong>, which former Vice President Pence rejected by certifying the 2020 results.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump\u2019s potential running mates have also downplayed his role in the January 6 insurrection and whitewashed the violence of that day.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hill<\/a>: \u201cJD Vance<\/strong> says he is \u2018skeptical\u2019 Pence\u2019s life was in danger on Jan. 6\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kristen Welker, NBC<\/a>: \u201cDonald Trump has yet to concede. Is that not undemocratic? Particularly for someone who is running to be the leader of this country and the free world again?\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Doug Burgum<\/strong>: \u201cDonald Trump at the end of his term on January 20, left the White House, we had a smooth transition [after the 2020 election].\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Welker: \u201cJanuary 6 was not exactly a smooth transition, governor.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Burgum: \u201cWell I think we have to say that there was a smooth transition.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Newsweek<\/a>: \u201c\u2018There was no way they were going to overthrow the government,\u2019 said Rubio<\/strong>. \u2026 \u2018I also do not think people should be misled to think this somehow was on the verge of overthrowing the government.\u2019 Rubio also explained another reason why the events of January 6 should not be considered an insurrection. That was because Congress’ certification of Joe Biden’s win in the 2020 presidential election eventually resumed after protesters broke into the Capitol building.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
