Wade<\/em>,<em> <\/em>while his MAGA Republicans in the Senate voted against federally protecting reproductive freedom; Trump again called January 6 insurrectionists \u201chostages\u201d; and Trump tapped convicted fraudster Billy McFarland to join his failing campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The RNC\u2019s Platform Committee adopted Donald Trump\u2019s extreme, out-of-touch platform ahead of the Republican National Convention.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/captimes.com\/news\/government\/gop-approves-new-platform-written-by-trump-and-passed-in-private\/article_64f8668c-3d31-11ef-b084-f7205956c0b9.html\">The Cap Times<\/a>: \u201cGOP approves new platform, written by Trump and passed in private\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcwashington.com\/news\/national-international\/the-republican-partys-2024-platform-reflects-a-trump-centric-shift-in-policies\/3661801\/\">NBC Washington<\/a>: \u201cThe Republican party\u2019s 2024 platform reflects a Trump-centric shift in policies\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/trump-distance-project-2025-architects-helped-shape-rnc\/story?id=111759747\">ABC News<\/a>: \u201cTrump is trying to distance himself from Project 2025 &#8212; but its architects helped shape his RNC party platform\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBut when Republicans meet in Milwaukee next week and vote to officially confirm the first new Republican Party platform since 2016 &#8212; which Trump and Republicans across the country will run on &#8212; that platform will have been crafted and influenced by individuals with deep ties to Project 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn May, the Trump campaign and the RNC announced their Platform Committee leadership team, the senior officials tasked with drafting the Republican platform, and named Russ Vought as the platform committee\u2019s policy director and Ed Martin as deputy policy director. Both have ties to Project 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOther members on the RNC platform committee with ties to Project 2025 include Family Research Council President Tony Perkins, who has been vocal in his efforts to ensure the Republican platform does not soften its language on abortion. Perkins has said he is involved in the crafting of the 2024 platform, and Family Research Council is also an advisory board member to Project 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>An organization behind Project 2025 is sponsoring next week\u2019s Republican National Convention as Trump continues trying to <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/112765952710871414\"><strong>hide<\/strong><\/a><strong> his deep ties with the group.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jsonline.com\/story\/news\/politics\/elections\/2024\/07\/09\/project-2025-think-tank-heritage-foundation-signs-on-as-an-rnc-sponsor\/74337029007\/\">Milwaukee Journal Sentinel<\/a>: \u201cThink tank behind Project 2025 conservative blueprint signs on as RNC convention sponsor\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs former President Donald Trump distances himself from a conservative group\u2019s blueprint for a future Republican governing agenda, he will have at least one unavoidable connection to it: the Republican National Convention.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Heritage Foundation, the D.C.-based think tank that produced Project 2025 \u2014 a series of policy plans to overhaul the federal government \u2014 is among the sponsors of the convention in Milwaukee next week.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/3076544\/project-2025s-heritage-foundation-partners-rnc\/\">Washington Examiner<\/a>: \u201cProject 2025 Heritage Foundation partners with RNC\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhile former President Donald Trump has attempted to distance himself from Project 2025, the Heritage Foundation, the conservative think tank behind the policy plan, is on full display at the Republican National Convention.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/donald-trump-project-2205-heritage-foundation-rnc-1923661\">Newsweek<\/a>: \u201cDonald Trump\u2019s Claim He Knows \u2018Nothing\u2019 About Project 2025 Has One Problem\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDonald Trump\u2019s statements that he has \u2018nothing\u2019 to do with the conservative Project 2025 have received further scrutiny after the think tank behind the policy plan was revealed to be hosting two events at the Republican National Convention.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Trump VP contender J.D. Vance praised Project 2025 and said it has \u201cgood ideas.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/HeartlandSignal\/status\/1811494802665394616\">Vance<\/a>: \u201cI\u2019ve reviewed a lot of [Project 2025]. There are some good ideas in there.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/newrepublic.com\/article\/178848\/ban-abortion-trump-lgbtq-project-2025\">The New Republic<\/a>: \u201cOn January 20, 2025, conservatives plan to resurrect a 150-year-old defunct law to ban abortion across the nation. This is not a secret plan\u2014far from it. It\u2019s part of the 180-Day Playbook produced by Project 2025, detailing priorities for an incoming conservative president on day one. These 900 pages lay out a Christian nationalist vision of the United States, one in which married heterosexuality is the only valid form of sexual expression and identity; all pregnancies would be carried to term, even if that requires coercion or death; and transgender and gender-nonconforming people do not exist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe playbook says the president should enforce a 150-year-old law, the Comstock Act, which right-wing groups see as a way to ban abortion nationally because it outlaws the use of the mail for the purposes of sending or receiving any object that could be used for an abortion.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.niskanencenter.org\/project-2025-unveiling-the-far-rights-plan-to-demolish-immigration-in-a-second-trump-term\/\">Niskanen Center<\/a>: \u201c[Project 2025\u2019s immigration proposals] are designed to cripple the existing immigration system without regard for the extraordinarily harmful effects on the health and wealth of our country. They would weaken our nation\u2019s prosperity and security and undermine the vitality of our workforce, with far-reaching consequences for future generations of Americans.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Trump refused to say how he\u2019ll vote on an amendment to overturn Florida\u2019s extreme abortion ban this November \u2014 but his MAGA veepstakes contender Marco Rubio has already said he\u2019d vote against it.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcmiami.com\/decision-2024\/donald-trump-exclusive-nbc6-interview\/3357385\/\">NBC Miami<\/a>: \u201cAs an official Florida resident, Trump also tapped on voting, with Amendment 4 \u2014 the right to abortion initiative \u2014 on the ballot this November.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c\u2018I won&#8217;t say how I\u2019m voting, but I will be announcing it some time prior to the vote,\u2019 he said. \u2018But I wanted to make sure the people had the vote.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wftv.com\/news\/local\/florida-abortion-amendment-gets-no-sen-rubio\/AJJYQ7WKANGEDOAEWL5CSRGQXI\/\">WFTV<\/a>: \u201cFlorida Abortion amendment gets a \u2018no\u2019 from Sen. Rubio\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c\u2018I\u2019m not voting for that amendment,\u2019 said Senator Marco Rubio (R-Florida) in an interview with Eyewitness News\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cRubio, who in his time in the US Senate has introduced several bills to restrict abortion, is a long-time pro-life advocate, who in 2022, co-sponsored a bill that would ban abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy nationwide.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Trump bragged (again) about overturning <\/strong><strong><em>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong><strong> \u2014 this time saying he did a \u201cgreat service\u201d \u2014 while his MAGA VP contenders in the Senate voted against codifying protections for abortion access.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Republicans who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.senate.gov\/legislative\/LIS\/roll_call_votes\/vote1182\/vote_118_2_00211.htm\">voted<\/a> against include:<strong> J.D. Vance, Marco Rubio, Tim Scott, Tom Cotton, Bill Hagerty, Katie Britt, Marsha Blackburn, Joni Ernst, <\/strong>and <strong>Mike Lee.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=DtJR1qm7LCo\">Trump<\/a>: \u201cIf you remember, for 52 years they\u2019ve been trying to get it. So it states it\u2019s in the states, but it got stuck in the federal government with <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em>. I was able to get that out. Wade abortion protections\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Trump doubled down on calling January 6 insurrectionists \u201chostages.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/atrupar\/status\/1810844143481913430\">Trump<\/a>: \u201cBut when people who love our country protest on January 6 in Washington, they become hostages unfairly imprisoned for long periods of time. They\u2019ve suffered enough,\u2019 he said in Clinton, in the state\u2019s far east. \u2018Release the J6 hostages, Joe. Release \u2018em, Joe. You can do it real easy, Joe,\u2019 he said.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Trump tapped fellow convicted felon Billy McFarland (of Fyre Festival infamy) to join his failing campaign of crooks, cranks, and convicts.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/politics\/politics-features\/trump-fyre-fest-rappers-1235054854\/\">Rolling Stone<\/a>: \u201cThe Fyre Fest Fraudster Is Connecting Trump With Rappers\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSo far, McFarland has helped connect rappers with Trump at least twice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a fascinating turn of events: Fyre Festival was such an infamous, unmitigated disaster \u2014 full of chaos and unfulfilled hype \u2014 that the term \u2018Fyre Fest\u2019 quickly entered the pop-cultural lexicon as being synonymous with mayhem and catastrophe. Trump\u2019s Justice Department prosecuted McFarland, and in October 2018, he was sentenced to six years in federal prison on two counts of wire fraud.
