As JD Vance continues to push his anti-choice extremism that includes pushing the Justice Department to restrict access to medication abortion, <\/em>DNC Spokesperson Aida Ross released the following statement: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAfter pushing the Department of Justice to crack down on medication abortion access and prosecute doctors with his fellow anti-choice MAGA extremists, JD Vance is now running with Trump to enact a dangerous Project 2025 agenda that would ban abortion nationwide \u2013 with or<\/em> without<\/em> Congress \u2013 and threaten access to other reproductive care, from IVF to birth control. Women\u2019s basic rights are on the line this November, and voters will stop the Trump-Vance ticket\u2019s all-out assault on our fundamental freedoms.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ON THE RECORD: Anti-choice extremist JD Vance pushed the Justice Department to restrict access to medication abortion \u2014 in line with the Trump-Vance Project 2025 agenda.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Washington Post<\/a>: \u201cVance urged DOJ to enforce Comstock Act, crack down on abortion pills\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018We demand that you act swiftly and in accordance with the law, shut down all mail-order abortion operations,\u2019 Vance and about 40 fellow Republican lawmakers wrote. The Republicans called on the Justice Department to potentially prosecute physicians, pharmacists and others \u2018who break the Federal mail-order abortion laws,\u2019 citing additional federal laws that apply to criminal conspiracy and money laundering\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAntiabortion advocates first moved to revive the Comstock Act after Roe v. Wade was overturned two years ago \u2014 arguing that without the constitutional right to abortion, the long-dormant act now makes it illegal for anyone to mail abortion pills, even in states where abortion remains legal. The law has been referenced by \u2018Project 2025,\u2019 the conservative-backed alliance that has created a policy road map for a future Republican president.<\/strong> The Project 2025 document was released after the letter from Vance and other GOP senators was sent. According to Project 2025\u2019s blueprint, the Justice Department should \u2018enforce federal law\u2019 against providers and distributors of abortion pills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cRoger Severino, vice president of domestic policy at the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank that helped organize Project 2025, praised Vance\u2019s positions on abortion and said the letter aligns with their proposals.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

New Republic<\/a>: \u201cOn January 20, 2025, conservatives plan to resurrect a 150-year-old defunct law to ban abortion across the nation.<\/strong> This is not a secret plan\u2014far from it. It\u2019s part of the 180-Day Playbook produced by Project 2025, detailing priorities for an incoming conservative president on day one\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe playbook says the president should enforce a 150-year-old law, the Comstock Act, which right-wing groups see as a way to ban abortion nationally because it outlaws the use of the mail for the purposes of sending or receiving any object that could be used for an abortion.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vance\u2019s anti-choice record also includes comparing abortion to slavery, saying he\u2019d like \u201cabortion to be illegal nationally,\u201d attacking exceptions for rape and incest, and more.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vance<\/a>: \u201cThere\u2019s something comparable between abortion and slavery, <\/strong>and that while the people who obviously suffer the most are those subjected to it, I think it has this morally distorting effect on the entire society.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

CNN<\/a>: \u201cJD Vance said in 2022 he \u2018would like abortion to be illegal nationally\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cJD Vance said he \u2018certainly would like abortion to be illegal nationally\u2019 and was \u2018sympathetic\u2019 to the view that a national ban was necessary to stop women from traveling across states to obtain an abortion.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Manu Raju, CNN<\/a>: \u201cJ.D. Vance, the Ohio GOP senator, says Republicans need to shift their approach on abortion and begin to embrace federal legislation \u2026 \u2018We can\u2019t give into the idea that the federal Congress has no role in this matter,\u2019 he told us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vance<\/a>: \u201cOhio has a heartbeat bill [banning abortion before many women know they\u2019re pregnant], I think that\u2019s a good bill.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vance<\/a>: \u201cI think that what I really think on \u2013 so first of all, the <\/strong>Dobbs<\/em><\/strong> decision, everybody knows, overruled <\/strong>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 I think that was the right decision.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

ProPublica<\/a>: \u201c[Vance] argued that conservatives needed to take action against corporations that, say, defended abortion rights or punished employees who spoke out against abortion access.<\/strong> \u2018If we\u2019re unwilling to make companies that are taking the side of the left in the culture wars feel real economic pain, then we\u2019re not serious about winning the culture war,\u2019 he said.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018It\u2019s idiotic for us to take the bait,\u2019<\/strong> Senator JD Vance told Politico, as though the measure were some kind of political trap. (He also noted that he had not actually read the bill yet.)\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vance has deep ties to the extremists that produced the Project 2025 blueprint and has praised it as including \u201cgood ideas.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gram Slattery, Reuters<\/a>: \u201cVance is very close to Heritage and even wrote the forward for a book from the think tank\u2019s president. Project 2025 is of course organized by Heritage.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
