In response to JD Vance skipping today\u2019s Senate vote on expanding the child tax credit, <\/em>DNC Spokesperson Aida Ross released the following statement: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs it turns out, JD Vance doesn\u2019t care about Americans with children or without. After viciously attacking women and families and disparaging Americans who don\u2019t have children, Vance can\u2019t even be bothered to show up to work today to vote on critical legislation to expand the child tax credit to help Americans with children make ends meet. Vance \u2014 who has previously called policies to support child care a \u2018war against normal people\u2019 \u2014 has shown he doesn\u2019t actually care about supporting working families, he only cares about political stunts to push his extreme Project 2025 agenda with Donald Trump. When the American people vote in November, they\u2019ll remember that when Vance had a chance to show up for working families, he was nowhere to be found.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NEW: JD Vance is skipping today\u2019s vote on legislation to help children and families.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NBC News<\/a>: \u201cThe vote on the bill, which would provide the most financial help to multi-child households<\/strong>, comes as Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, the GOP vice presidential nominee, faces heated criticism over past remarks disparaging \u2018childless cat ladies\u2019 and questioning the character of women who choose not to have kids. Vance is scheduled to visit the U.S.-Mexico border in Arizona on Thursday and is expected to miss the vote. His office didn\u2019t say how he’d vote if he were in Washington.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today\u2019s vote is just another example of Vance\u2019s anti-working family record, which includes calling policies that support families and child care a \u201cwar against normal people.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vance<\/a>: \u201c\u2018Universal day care\u2019 is class war against normal people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vance<\/a>: \u201cIt turns out that normal Americans care more about their families than their jobs, and want a family policy that doesn\u2019t shunt their kids into crap daycare so they can enjoy more \u2018freedom\u2019 in the paid labor force.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vance backs Trump\u2019s Project 2025 agenda that includes giving handouts to the ultra-wealthy (again) at the expense of working Americans and risks supercharging inflation.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vance<\/a>: \u201cI\u2019ve reviewed a lot of [Project 2025]. There are some good ideas in there.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vance<\/a> on Trump\u2019s plan that would raise tariffs and raise costs for hardworking Americans: \u201cThis is a fascinating proposal and we could talk for a while about it.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cYou\u2019re all people that have a lot of money \u2026 You\u2019re rich as hell. \u2026 We\u2019re gonna give you tax cuts.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vance has repeatedly attacked and disparaged Americans who don\u2019t have children, and wants to undermine their role in our democracy.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

CNN<\/a>: \u201cRepublican vice presidential nominee Sen. JD Vance has a history of making disparaging remarks toward people without children, a CNN KFile review of his comments shows, including fundraising off his now-infamous \u2018childless cat lady\u2019 remarks in a series of emails that called Democratic leaders \u2018childless sociopath\u2019 who \u2018don\u2019t have a direct stake in this country.\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn November 2020, Vance said on a conservative podcast that childless Americans, especially those in the country\u2019s \u2018leadership class,\u2019 were \u2018more sociopathic\u2019 than those with children and made the country \u2018less mentally stable.\u2019 <\/strong>Vance added that the \u2018most deranged\u2019 and \u2018most psychotic\u2019 <\/strong>commentators on Twitter \u2013 now known as X – were typically childless.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pat Rynard, Courier Newsroom<\/a>: \u201cJD Vance says Americans without children should \u2018face the consequences<\/strong> and the reality\u2019 and not get \u2018nearly the same voice\u2019 in democracy\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Federalist<\/a>: \u201cJ.D. Vance, a U.S. Senate candidate from Ohio, called out the \u2018childless left\u2019 whom he said have \u2018no physical commitment to the future of this country\u2019 in a fiery speech given to the Intercollegiate Studies Institute\u2019s conference on the Future of American Political Economy\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018Why is this just a normal fact of\u2026  life, for the leaders of our country to be people who don\u2019t have a personal and direct stake in it via their own offspring?\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018The Democrats are talking about giving the vote to 16-year-olds,\u2019 Vance noted. \u2018Let\u2019s do this instead. Let\u2019s give votes to all children in this country, but let\u2019s give control over those votes to the parents of the children<\/strong>.\u2019 He continued, asking, \u2018Doesn\u2019t this mean that nonparents don\u2019t have as much of a voice as parents? Doesn\u2019t this mean that parents get a bigger say in how democracy functions?\u2019 He answered with a simple \u2018yes\u2019 after saying \u2018the Atlantic and the Washington Post and all the usual suspects\u2019 would criticize him.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ABC News<\/a>: \u201c[Vance] suggested that the country needed to \u2018reward the things that we think are good\u2019 and \u2018punish the things that we think are bad<\/strong>\u2019 — before suggesting that individuals without children should be taxed at a higher rate than those with children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vance suggested women should stay in violent marriages.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vance<\/a>: \u201cThis is one of the great tricks that I think the sexual revolution pulled on the American populace, which is the idea that like, \u2018well, OK, these marriages were fundamentally, you know, they were maybe even violent, but certainly they were unhappy. And so getting rid of them and making it easier for people to shift spouses like they change their underwear, that\u2019s going to make people happier in the long term.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An anti-choice extremist, Vance said he\u2019d like \u201cabortion to be illegal nationally,\u201d celebrated when Trump overturned <\/strong>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong>, attacked exceptions for rape and incest, and more.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

CNN<\/a>: \u201cJD Vance said in 2022 he \u2018would like abortion to be illegal nationally\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cJD Vance said he \u2018certainly would like abortion to be illegal nationally\u2019 and was \u2018sympathetic\u2019 to the view that a national ban was necessary to stop women from traveling across states to obtain an abortion.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Manu Raju, CNN<\/a>: \u201c<\/strong>J.D. Vance, the Ohio GOP senator, says Republicans need to shift their approach on abortion and begin to embrace federal legislation \u2026 \u2018We can\u2019t give into the idea that the federal Congress has no role in this matter,\u2019 he told us.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Daily Beast<\/a>: \u201cJ.D. Vance suggested he would support prohibiting abortion even in cases of rape and incest\u2014and dismissed those catalysts as \u2018inconvenient.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vance<\/a>: \u201cI think that what I really think on \u2013 so first of all, the <\/strong>Dobbs<\/em><\/strong> decision, everybody knows, overruled <\/strong>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 I think that was the right decision.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vance also wants law enforcement to have access to women\u2019s medical records so they can enforce extreme abortion bans.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
