Every Republican who voted to block this tax relief for hardworking families has failed children and moms and dads across America. Trump and Vance\u2019s Project 2025 agenda would go even further \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.americanprogressaction.org\/article\/comparing-trumps-haphazard-2500-tax-increase-to-bidens-targeted-tariffs\/\">raising taxes for middle-class families by $2,500<\/a> a year and eliminating <a href=\"https:\/\/www.americanprogress.org\/article\/project-2025-would-eliminate-head-start-severely-restricting-access-to-child-care-in-rural-america\/\">Head Start<\/a>, which would strip away access to early childhood education for hundreds of thousands of children. American families deserve so much better. That\u2019s why we need Vice President Kamala Harris in the White House with Democratic majorities in Congress to build on the progress of the Biden-Harris administration\u2019s work delivering <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hhs.gov\/about\/news\/2024\/02\/29\/biden-harris-administration-announces-new-rule-reduce-costs-more-than-100000-families-receiving-child-care-subsidies.html\">lower child care costs<\/a>, more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2024\/07\/30\/fact-sheet-biden-harris-administration-actions-to-keep-children-and-families-safely-together-and-supported\/#:~:text=The%20Biden%2DHarris%20Administration%20saved,Asian%20American%20children%20out%20of\">affordable housing<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fns.usda.gov\/news-item\/usda-0093.24\">food assistance to children<\/a> year round.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Republicans blocked an expansion of the child tax credit (CTC).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/08\/01\/politics\/senate-tax-bill-vote\/index.html#:~:text=Senate%20Republicans%20on%20Thursday%20blocked,60%20it%20required%20to%20succeed.\">CNN<\/a>: <strong>\u201cSenate GOP blocks tax bill as Democrats spotlight child credit in election-year push\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSenate Republicans on Thursday blocked a bipartisan tax package that would have temporarily expanded the child tax credit and restored some business tax benefits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe bill failed to advance in a procedural vote of 48-44, short of the 60 it required to succeed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Meanwhile, Senate Democrats advocated for the passage of the bill, while highlighting Republican hypocrisy.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SenWhitehouse\/status\/1818749632572239893\">Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse<\/a>: \u201c[The expanded child tax credit] enabled parents to get into the workforce. There is a phony narrative that if you give the child tax credit to families they will just avoid work. Our experience was the opposite. Once you had child tax credit revenues and you could afford, for instance, child care for your kid, then you could go to work [\u2026]&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cThis is a pro-child and pro-work tax credit.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SenateDems\/status\/1818725336227484116\">Sen. Bob Casey<\/a>: \u201cIn 2021, Democrats passed the American Rescue Plan, which had as one of its features an enhanced version of the child tax credit.<strong> By passing that legislation in 2021, we cut child poverty in half according to the Census Bureau.<\/strong> [\u2026]&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI encourage all of our colleagues \u2013 in both parties \u2013 to stand with those children, to stand with those families, and vote yes on this tax bill.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SenateDems\/status\/1818751693955240350\">Sen. Maggie Hassan<\/a>: \u201cExpanding the child tax credit is a common sense, practical way to put more money back in the pockets of hardworking families.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere&#8217;s a reason that a majority of Americans support these proposals. It&#8217;s because they&#8217;re good ideas that will make a difference in people&#8217;s lives. [\u2026]&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cUnfortunately, some of my colleagues on the other side of the aisle have seemingly <strong>allowed partisan politics to interfere with good faith efforts<\/strong> to find a path forward.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>MAGA Republicans\u2019 vote to block this essential legislation should not come as a surprise. Trump and his MAGA cronies are trying to hide their extreme Project 2025 agenda that would hurt low-income, working families. Trump and his extremist allies\u2019 Project 2025 agenda includes:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Eliminating the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.americanprogress.org\/article\/project-2025-would-eliminate-head-start-severely-restricting-access-to-child-care-in-rural-america\/\">Head Start<\/a> program, which has served nearly 40 million children, providing educational and developmental opportunities for low-income families.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/static.project2025.org\/2025_MandateForLeadership_FULL.pdf\">Project 2025\u2019s Mandate for Leadership, pg. 482<\/a>: \u201cEliminate the Head Start program.\u201d<br><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rejecting the notion of universal child care altogether in favor of incentivizing \u201chome-based\u201d childcare solutions.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/static.project2025.org\/2025_MandateForLeadership_FULL.pdf\">Project 2025\u2019s Mandate for Leadership, pg. 486<\/a>: \u201cPrioritize funding for home-based childcare, not universal day care.\u201d<br><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.americanprogressaction.org\/article\/comparing-trumps-haphazard-2500-tax-increase-to-bidens-targeted-tariffs\/\">Raising taxes for the typical middle class family by $2,500<\/a> a year, and reducing taxes for the ultra-wealthy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Polling shows that tax benefits and affordable child care are an important issue for voters \u2014 and the Trump-Vance ticket refuses to prioritize the needs of young working families, which was exemplified in Trump\u2019s first term.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ffyf.org\/2024\/05\/16\/new-polling-on-child-care-and-the-2024-election\/\">First Five Year Fund<\/a>: \u201cNew Polling on Child Care and the 2024 Election\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn this election year, an overwhelming majority of voters (89%) want candidates to have a plan or policies ready to help working parents afford high-quality child care. This cuts across party lines, with 80% of Republicans, 88% of Independents, and 99% of Democrats. [&#8230;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cVoters make a strong connection between child care and a strong economy, with 68% of all voters saying access to high-quality, affordable child care is \u201cessential\/very important\u201d to strengthening the economy.&nbsp; This includes 53% of Republicans, 64% of Independents, and 84% of [Democrats] [&#8230;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIncreasing the Federal Child Care Tax Credit (Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit, or CDCTC): A large majority of voters (76%) support increasing the federal child care tax credit (CDCTC), the only existing tax credit specifically designed to help ease the burden of child care costs for working families. This includes 62% of Republicans, 74% of Independents, and 92% of Democrats.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.americanprogress.org\/article\/5-ways-trump-administrations-policies-harmed-children\/\">Center for American Progress<\/a>: \u201c5 Ways the Trump Administration\u2019s Policies Have Harmed Children\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEarly experiences can affect children\u2019s life outcomes.
