Yesterday, Donald Trump held a press conference where he did what he does best: lie, complain, and threaten fundamental freedoms. He refused to say if he would support Florida\u2019s constitutional amendment protecting abortion access and he opened the door to banning medication abortion nationwide<\/a> \u2013 effectively ripping away the most common method<\/a> of abortion care nationwide, even impacting states where abortion is currently legal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Medication abortion by mail is used in a range of ways to protect women\u2019s health, including managing miscarriages. Trump further doubled down on his anti-reproductive freedom agenda by refusing to support a statewide ballot initiative to protect abortion access in Florida after his extreme ban devastated Floridians\u2019 reproductive health care choices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DNC Spokesperson Addy Toevs released the following statement: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere is no question: Trump wants to see abortion banned in every state, and if he and JD Vance win in November, they will \u2018absolutely\u2019<\/a> ban medication abortion nationwide as part of their extreme Project 2025 agenda. After paving the way for an extreme abortion ban on Floridians, Trump is doubling down by refusing to support Florida\u2019s constitutional amendment to protect abortion access. It\u2019s no surprise, Trump is \u2018proudly\u2019 responsible for ending federally protected abortion access and he\u2019s threatening to go further in a second term. In stark contrast, Vice President Harris and Governor Walz have gone to bat again and again to protect womens\u2019 right to choose, and they\u2019ll fight every day to restore the rights and freedoms that Trump ripped away from women across America.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Donald Trump said he would \u201cabsolutely\u201d direct the FDA to end medication abortion access if elected.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Donald Trump wouldn\u2019t commit to supporting Florida\u2019s constitutional amendment to protect abortion statewide.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

WFLA<\/strong><\/a>: \u201cTrump won\u2019t yet say how he will vote on Florida\u2019s abortion amendment\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAmendment 4 would allow abortions up to the time of viability unless the patient\u2019s health is at risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTrump also added that he doesn\u2019t believe abortion will be a major campaign issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cA recent Florida poll<\/a> showed that 69% of voters who were asked said they would vote \u2018yes\u2019 on the amendment. The amendment requires \u201cyes\u201d votes from 60% of voters in order to pass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018Florida does have a vote coming up on that, and I think probably the vote will go in a little more liberal way than people thought,\u2019 Trump said. \u2018But I\u2019ll be announcing that at the appropriate time.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tampa Bay Times<\/strong><\/a>: \u201cDoes Trump support Florida\u2019s abortion Amendment 4? Soon, he\u2019ll say.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOn Thursday, Trump also said he thought the fervor around abortion has been \u2018taken down many notches\u2019 <\/strong>and said he believes it will ultimately be \u2018a very small issue.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTrump said he was less concerned now about Democrats using the reversal of Roe v. Wade<\/em>, made possible by his appointments to the Supreme Court, to win the election in 2024. Democrats have said they plan to make abortion a focal point of their campaign and have had success in recent elections by elevating the topic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018That issue \u2026 is very much subdued,\u2019 Trump said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe declined to say how he would vote in a Florida abortion referendum that he predicted liberals would win.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Politico<\/strong><\/a>: \u201cTrump won\u2019t say how he\u2019ll vote on Florida abortion amendment\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTrump made the comments during a press conference at his Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach. A POLITICO reporter asked how he \u2014 as a Florida resident \u2014 would vote and he demurred, adding that he thinks abortion has \u2018become much less of an issue.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n
