In response to <\/em>new reporting<\/em><\/a> on a top aide for JD Vance previously working for a group with deep ties to far-right extremist groups,<\/em> DNC Rapid Response Director Alex Floyd released the following statement: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cJust like Donald Trump, JD Vance and his team won\u2019t stop surrounding themselves with \u2018far-right\u2019 extremists who want to take America backward, ripping away women\u2019s basic rights and attacking access to everything from contraception to divorce. It\u2019s no wonder Vance is the least popular VP pick in modern American history with an inner circle of far-right creeps and an extreme Project 2025 agenda to match.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Guardian<\/a>: \u201cRevealed: top Vance aide worked for far-right consultancy with extremist links\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cA senior aide to Donald Trump\u2019s running mate, JD Vance, once worked for a far-right political consultancy that touts its capacity for \u2018clandestine actions\u2019 and has links to a network of extremist groups and thinktanks<\/strong>, the Guardian can reveal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cParker Magid was recently appointed as Vance\u2019s press secretary and his employment history links Vance and his circle to elements of the extremist right far outside the mainstream of American politics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cVance\u2019s staffer links him to Beck & Stone (B&S) and its subsidiary political consultancy Knight Takes Rook (KTR). The brand consultancy with a business address in New York is close to Vance allies including the far-right Claremont Institute, the serial Arizona political candidate Blake Masters and the \u2018counter-revolutionary\u2019 magazine IM\u20131776\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBeck, Beck & Stone\u2019s co-founder, is closely involved with the Society for American Civic Renewal (SACR), a secretive invitation- and men-only fraternal lodge that has been the subject of extensive previous reporting in the Guardian. Beth Daviess, a researcher at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey, who has published research on SACR, said the politics represented by the group are \u2018much more extreme than mainstream conservatism.\u2019 She explained there were two elements of that extremism: \u2018their opinions on gender and the role women should have in society\u2019 and \u2018their views on whether government should be democratic at all.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe link is just one of a series of connections between Vance and the so-called \u2018new right,\u2019<\/strong> an anti-democratic movement that attacks feminism, racial equality and immigrants while centering the grievances of white men.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beth Daviess<\/a>: \u201cThe SACR admission criteria highlight the importance of \u2018Christian sexual ethics,\u2019 and \u2018Natural Law,\u2019 but provide no specifics. Yenor\u2019s writing nonetheless provides some insights: in a blog post titled \u2018A High Road for Protestant Sexual Ethics,\u2019 Yenor condemns the availability of birth control and divorce<\/strong> as having the potential to weaken the commitment of a married couple.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vance is deeply connected with other extremists, including the architects of Project 2025, Steven Bannon, and Tucker Carlson.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

New Republic<\/a>: \u201cVance has deep ties to the Heritage Foundation, and in particular to Kevin Roberts, who has been president of the right-wing think tank since 2021 and is the architect of Project 2025. Vance has praised Roberts for helping to turn the organization \u2018into the de facto institutional home of Trumpism\u2019 and has endorsed elements of Project 2025. <\/strong>Vance is also the author of the foreword to Roberts\u2019s upcoming book.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nick Corasaniti, New York Times<\/a>: \u201c[Roberts] reacted to the news [of Vance\u2019s VP selection] \u2018with a broad smile on my face\u2019 and said that \u2018privately, we were really rooting for him.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vox<\/a>: \u201cKevin Roberts, the president of the right-wing Heritage Foundation and the driving force behind Project 2025, told Ward that \u2018[Vance] is absolutely going to be one of the leaders \u2014 if not the leader \u2014 of our movement.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Politico<\/a>: \u201cVance\u2019s inner circle already bears the imprint of Trump\u2019s influence, with a handful of advisers and staffers who have one foot in Vance\u2019s camp and one foot in Trump world\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u200b\u200bThe leader of the organization behind the now-infamous Project 2025, [Kevin] Roberts is a long-time Vance ally in Washington, having called him \u2018one of the leaders \u2014 if not the leader \u2014 of our movement.\u2019 The two men have appeared together at public events and co-authored op-eds about foreign policy, and Vance even wrote the foreword to Roberts\u2019 forthcoming book\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c[Project 2025 architect Russell Vought] told POLITICO Magazine that he is in \u2018regular contact\u2019 with Vance\u2019s Hill office and that \u2018we probably have one of the closest relationships with [Vance\u2019s] office that we do with any Hill office.\u2019 \u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe former Fox News superstar [Tucker Carlson] used his prime-time show to promote Vance\u2019s Senate candidacy in 2022 and has remained one of his most ardent public supporters.<\/strong> Vance is a regular guest on Carlson\u2019s new platform\u2026 and Carlson reportedly personally lobbied Trump to pick Vance as his vice presidential candidate in the days leading up to the Republican National Convention\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n
