In response to Donald Trump saying he will vote against an amendment to protect abortion access in Florida after he ended Roe v. Wade, <\/em>DNC Communications Director Rosemary Boeglin released the following statement: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOf course Donald Trump will vote to keep Florida\u2019s draconian abortion ban in place \u2014 he\u2019s the reason it exists. Women in Florida and across the country are being turned away from emergency rooms, denied critical care when they need it most, and seeing their rights stripped away while Trump brags about how he \u2018proudly\u2019 overturned Roe v. Wade<\/em> and made these cruel laws possible. Trump is showing us once again exactly who he is: An anti-choice extremist, just like his running mate JD Vance, who will stop at nothing to ban abortion nationwide \u2014 with or without Congress \u2014 as part of their dangerous Project 2025 agenda.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BREAKING: In a new interview, Donald Trump said he will be voting AGAINST a ballot measure to repeal Florida\u2019s extreme ban on abortion and codify access.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201c…I will be voting no [on Florida\u2019s amendment to codify abortion access]…\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump made cruel abortion bans like Florida\u2019s \u2014 which he says are \u201cworking very brilliantly\u201d \u2014 possible by \u201cproudly\u201d overturning <\/strong>Roe v. Wade.<\/em><\/strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cI was proudly the person responsible for the ending of Roe v. Wade\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cFor 54 years they were trying to get <\/strong>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong> terminated, and I did it, and I\u2019m proud to have done it. \u2026 Nobody else was going to get that done but me, and we did it, and we did something that was a miracle.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cWe broke Roe v. Wade and we did something that nobody thought was possible. We gave it back to the states, and the states are working very brilliantly \u2026 But they\u2019re working, and it\u2019s working the way it\u2019s supposed to.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Associated Press<\/a>: \u201cRepublican Gov. Ron DeSantis signed into law a bill approved by the Republican-dominated Florida Legislature to ban abortions after six weeks of pregnancy\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe policy would have wider implications for abortion access throughout the South in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court\u2019s decision last year overturning Roe v. Wade and leaving decisions about abortion access to states.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just last night, Trump\u2019s running mate JD Vance attended a <\/strong>fundraiser<\/strong><\/a> hosted by anti-choice extremist Wilton Simpson, who helped pass an extreme abortion ban in Florida and attacked exceptions for rape or incest.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Washington Examiner<\/a>: \u201cThe Florida lawmaker is Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson, who hosted a roundtable discussion fundraiser with Vance in Dade City on Thursday<\/strong>, tickets for which cost $50,000 per person, according to reports\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSimpson was the president of Florida\u2019s Senate in 2022 before he became commissioner last year, when the chamber passed a law restricting abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy for Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) to sign.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018I think it\u2019s a great day,\u2019 Simpson said at the time. \u2018After 15 weeks, that is a child. And so the argument is, should you kill a baby after 15 weeks because it was [conceived] under certain circumstances?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If given the chance, Trump and Vance would ban abortion nationwide with their dangerous Project 2025 agenda.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cThere of course remains a vital role for the federal government in protecting unborn life. And it\u2019s very important.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump on if he would sign a six-week national abortion ban<\/a>: \u201cI\u2019m looking at all options.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

CNN<\/a>: \u201cJD Vance said in 2022 he \u2018would like abortion to be illegal nationally\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c<\/strong>During a podcast interview in January 2022, then-candidate JD Vance said he \u2018certainly would like abortion to be illegal nationally\u2019 and was \u2018sympathetic\u2019 to the view that a national ban was necessary to stop women from traveling across states to obtain an abortion.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Newsweek<\/a>: \u201cJ.D. Vance Backs \u2018National Standard\u2019 for Abortions\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Daily Beast<\/a>: \u201cJ.D. Vance suggested he would support prohibiting abortion even in cases of rape and incest\u2014and dismissed those catalysts as \u2018inconvenient.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

New Republic<\/a>: \u201cOn January 20, 2025, conservatives plan to resurrect a 150-year-old defunct law to ban abortion across the nation.<\/strong> This is not a secret plan\u2014far from it. It\u2019s part of the 180-Day Playbook produced by Project 2025, detailing priorities for an incoming conservative president on day one. These 900 pages lay out a Christian nationalist vision of the United States, one in which married heterosexuality is the only valid form of sexual expression and identity; all pregnancies would be carried to term, even if that requires coercion or death; and transgender and gender-nonconforming people do not exist\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe playbook says the president should enforce a 150-year-old law, the Comstock Act, which right-wing groups see as a way to ban abortion nationally because it outlaws the use of the mail for the purposes of sending or receiving any object that could be used for an abortion.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vance<\/a>: \u201cI\u2019ve reviewed a lot of [Project 2025]. There are some good ideas in there.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Axios<\/a>: \u201c[Project 2025] is undeniably a Trump-driven operation.<\/strong> The biggest tell: Johnny McEntee \u2014 one of Trump’s closest White House aides, and his most fervent internal loyalty enforcer \u2014 is a senior adviser to Project 2025. One of the most powerful architects is Stephen Miller, a top West Wing adviser for the Trump administration.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New York Times<\/a>: \u201cRoberts told me that he views Heritage\u2019s role today as \u2018institutionalizing Trumpism.\u2019 <\/strong>This includes leading Project 2025, a transition blueprint that outlines a plan to consolidate power in the executive branch, dismantle federal agencies and recruit and vet government employees to free the next Republican president from a system that Roberts views as stacked against conservative power. The lesson of Trump\u2019s first year in office, Roberts told me, is that \u2018the Trump administration \u2026 simply got a slow start. And Heritage and our allies in Project 2025 believe that must never be repeated.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

REALITY CHECK: Attacks on reproductive rights, like Trump and Vance\u2019s anti-choice Project 2025 agenda to rip away reproductive freedoms, are wildly unpopular.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

USA Today<\/a>: \u201cAmericans overwhelmingly oppose the next goal of many anti-abortion activists, to enact a federal law banning abortion nationwide.<\/strong> By 80%-14%, those surveyed opposed that idea, including 65% of Republicans and 83% of independents.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Axios<\/a>: \u201cRecord share of U.S. voters back abortion rights and will vote on it: Gallup\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NBC News<\/a>: \u201cAbortion rights have won in every election since Roe v. Wade was overturned\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Axios<\/a>: \u201cMost Americans support abortion access one year after Roe v. Wade: poll\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

CNN Poll<\/a>: \u201cAbout two-thirds (65%) oppose the 2022 Supreme Court decision, Dobbs v. Jackson Women\u2019s Health Organization, and 34% approve, numbers that have remained effectively unchanged in CNN\u2019s polling across the nearly two years since the ruling. Those who strongly disapprove of the decision continue to outnumber those who strongly approve by a more than 2-to-1 margin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cA 69% majority who disapprove of overturning Roe, including 82% of those who strongly disapprove, say that federal politicians should work to pass laws ensuring national abortion access.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
