Today, MAGA Mike Johnson is setting Republicans in the House up for more chaos and dysfunction, proving once again that his Chaos Conference can\u2019t govern \u2014 and they\u2019ll continue on this destructive path if the Trump-Vance ticket takes power. Even Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell knows that MAGA Mike\u2019s gambit of putting Trump\u2019s priorities over the American people spells political disaster for Republicans this November. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Donald Trump is <\/strong>directly calling<\/strong><\/a> on MAGA House Republicans to shut down the government if they don\u2019t get their way despite McConnell\u2019s warnings that it\u2019d be \u201cpolitically beyond stupid.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

McConnell<\/a>: \u201cMy only observation about this whole discussion is the one thing you cannot have is a government shutdown. It\u2019d be politically beyond stupid for us to do that right before the election, because certainly we\u2019d get the blame.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

MAGA Mike Johnson is making House Republicans vote on the same legislation that he pulled just last week, and lawmakers on both sides of the aisle can agree on one thing: they\u2019re not really sure why. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Punchbowl News<\/a>: \u201cThe House is set to vote today on a short-term funding bill that won\u2019t pass. GOP lawmakers are grumbling about messaging, strategy and yearning to get back home to run for reelection. And Speaker Mike Johnson is being publicly and privately cagey about his next move, frustrating the entire House Republican Conference, which is looking for guidance about the leadership\u2019s plans.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn fact, the GOP leadership is even in the dark at most times as to what Johnson is thinking and planning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cJohnson is putting a bill on the floor that his entire leadership team \u2014 Majority Leader Steve Scalise of Louisiana and Tom Emmer of Minnesota \u2014 knows is going to fail. One House Republican lawmaker entered a meeting of GOP whips Tuesday and told us that he was \u2018going to see how well they\u2019re polishing this turd.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Axios<\/a>: \u201cJohnson\u2019s colleagues baffled by his shutdown strategy\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHouse members in both parties are perplexed about House Speaker Mike Johnson\u2019s (R-La.) decision<\/strong> to revive a short-term government funding bill that he pulled last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHouse Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.), asked if he has any sense of why Johnson is reviving the bill, told Axios, \u2018I have no idea.\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhy it matters: Even some Republicans are questioning Johnson\u2019s strategic decision-making, <\/strong>with some warning that his decision to hold a vote on the measure could actually hurt him in the long run.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know how he thinks it\u2019s going to pass<\/strong> … where are the votes coming from?” said Rep. Troy Nehls (R-Texas).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnother House Republican, speaking on the condition of anonymity, called Johnson\u2019s plan \u2018puzzling\u2019<\/strong> and predicted that it will frustrate some GOP lawmakers.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cRep. Steve Womack (R-Ark.), a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee, told reporters: \u2018There’s an old saying in Arkansas that you don’t learn nothing the second time you get kicked in the head by a mule.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump and JD Vance have called on MAGA congressional Republicans to shut down the government unless they get their way. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NBC News<\/a>: \u201c\u2018I would shut down the government in a heartbeat <\/strong>if they don\u2019t get it,\u2019 Trump said on the \u2018Monica Crowley Show\u2019 last week.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018It should be in the bill. And if it\u2019s not in the bill, you want to close it up,\u2019<\/strong> he said. \u2018So I\u2019m not there but, you know, I have influence.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vance<\/a>: \u201c\u2026And so yeah, man, why shouldn\u2019t we be trying to force this government shutdown fight <\/strong>to get something out of if that\u2019s good for the American people?\u201d  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 118th Congress is already on track to be one of the least productive in American history as MAGA Republicans continue to choose chaos over delivering for the American people. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
