After <\/em>new reporting<\/em><\/a> revealed a dramatic rise in pregnant women dying under Texas\u2019 abortion ban, JD Vance is doubling down on the Trump-Vance Project 2025 agenda by fundraising with an anti-choice extremist in Texas. In response, <\/em>DNC Spokesperson Aida Ross released the following statement: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhile women across Texas are dying under a draconian abortion ban made possible by Donald Trump, JD Vance is cozying up to an anti-choice extremist who attacked those standing up for reproductive rights as \u2018satanic, evil, and crude.\u2019 There is only one ticket that will protect our freedoms, and that\u2019s Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. The American people will stop the Trump-Vance Project 2025 agenda and will not let them take their dangerous abortion bans nationwide.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

JD Vance is attending a fundraiser tonight hosted by anti-choice extremist Barry Smitherman, who praised a draconian abortion ban in Texas and attacked the legislation\u2019s opponents as \u201csatanic, evil, and crude.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Texas Tribune<\/a>: \u201cIn a recent speech to an anti-abortion group on the economic impact of terminating pregnancies, Texas Railroad Commissioner Barry Smitherman, a Republican candidate for attorney general, said he believed many unborn babies \u2018would have voted Republican\u2019 \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnd he praised the recent passage of abortion restrictions by the Texas Legislature. Smitherman described proponents of the legislation as \u2018civil and polite, but persistent,\u2019 and characterized their opponents as \u2018satanic, evil and crude.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Donald Trump \u201cproudly\u201d overturned <\/strong>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong> and paved the way for extreme abortion bans across the country, including allowing Texas\u2019 draconian trigger law to take effect.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe law was implemented some nine months before the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. Researchers warn the findings may foreshadow changes in other states that now ban abortion in all or most instances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cInfant deaths from fetal abnormalities, the leading cause of death for babies under a year of age, rose by 22.9 percent in Texas in 2022 but fell by 3.1 percent for the rest of the country, the study found. Infant deaths from unintentional injuries also increased by 20.7 percent in Texas in the same period, compared to 1.1 percent nationally.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBut since abortion was banned or restricted in 22 states over the past two years, women in serious danger have been turned away from emergency rooms and told that they needed to be in more peril before doctors could help. <\/strong>Some have been forced to continue high-risk pregnancies that threatened their lives. \u201c[Project 2025] explicitly names their intention not just to rescind FDA approval for the abortion pill if they regain control of the White House in 2024, but to revive a 150-year-old law that criminalizes sending or receiving through the mail any \u201carticle, instrument, substance, drug, medicine or thing\u201d that could be used to facilitate an abortion. That law, the Comstock Act, is viewed as a de facto federal abortion ban by reproductive rights advocates and anti-abortion activists alike\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe attacks on mifepristone and resurrection of Comstock stand out as particularly harmful proposals, but they are only two of the dozens of ways the Republicans behind Project 2025 envision restricting access to abortion and contraception if they win the White House next year.<\/strong> Elsewhere in the document, there are proposals to eliminate the morning-after pill from the Affordable Care Act\u2019s contraceptive mandate under the rationale that it is a \u2018potential abortifacient.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018Two wrongs don\u2019t make a right,\u2019 he said in 2021 when asked whether abortion laws should allow for exceptions for rape and incest.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
