The IRAP model sought to eliminate and weaken quality standards and worker protections for apprenticeship programs, including by assigning oversight authority to third-party industry groups. <strong>The end result would have been a system that prioritized corporate interests over workers.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediamatters.org\/project-2025\/project-2025-leader-heritage-foundation-pushes-anti-worker-apprenticeship-and\">Media Matters<\/a>: \u201cProject 2025 leader The Heritage Foundation pushes anti-worker apprenticeship and contracting policies\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Heritage Foundation \u2014 lead organizer of Project 2025, a sprawling effort to provide policy and staffing for a second Trump administration \u2014<strong> recently promoted an apprenticeship program that opens up workers to increased exploitation.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHeritage criticizes what it characterizes as \u2018the Biden-Harris Administration\u2019s multi-front assault against apprenticeship programs,\u2019 specifically the administration\u2019s cancellation of \u201cnew Industry Recognized Apprenticeship Programs,\u201d or IRAPS [\u2026] In fact, IRAPs were a <strong>Trump-era policy that created a new class of apprenticeship programs that were controlled and overseen by employers \u2014 rather than the Department of Labor \u2014 and loosened standards meant to protect workers.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.texasaft.org\/membership\/higher-ed\/sounding-the-alarm-on-project-2025-the-far-rights-blueprint-to-dismantle-public-education-and-workers-rights\/\">Texas American Federation of Teachers<\/a>: \u201cSounding the Alarm on Project 2025: The Far-Right\u2019s Blueprint to Dismantle Public Education and Workers\u2019 Rights\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe plan calls for expanding apprenticeship programs outside of the Registered Apprenticeship Program model [\u2026]<strong> These changes are likely to reduce oversight and quality control of these programs and could harm funding for high-quality apprenticeship programs<\/strong> offered by labor unions like the AFL-CIO.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Project 2025\u2019s anti-worker agenda goes beyond gutting the registered apprenticeship system \u2014 Trump\u2019s extremist policy plan attacks American workers from every angle.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.americanprogress.org\/article\/project-2025s-plan-to-gut-checks-and-balances-harms-american-workers\/\">Center for American Progress<\/a>: \u201cProject 2025\u2019s Plan To Gut Checks and Balances Harms American Workers\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cProject 2025 would pull the rug out from under American workers and make it harder to earn a spot in America\u2019s middle class, all while giving massive tax breaks to the ultrawealthy.<\/strong> [&#8230;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cProject 2025 proposes a ban on \u2018card check,\u2019 one of the main ways workers can organize a union and bargain collectively for better wages, benefits, and working conditions. The proposal also weakens the National Labor Relations Board\u2019s watchdog role, which would make it harder to form a union and have that union recognized.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[&#8230;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cAccording to the AFL-CIO, the plan also \u2018make[s] it easier for employers to get rid of workers\u2019 unions in the middle of \u2026 contracts.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/article\/2024\/aug\/04\/project-2025-trump-unions-overtime-pay\">The Guardian<\/a>: \u201cTrump claims he\u2019s pro-worker. <strong>Project 2025 will gut labor rights\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c<strong>Project 2025 would shrink many workers\u2019 paychecks by calling for a law that limits when they receive overtime pay <\/strong>\u2013 to only when they work more than 80 hours over a two-week period, instead of the current system of working more than 40 hours in one week. That means if an employee works 55 hours one week and 25 the next, that worker won\u2019t qualify for overtime pay, despite working 55 hours one week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn another proposal that would slice labor costs, Project 2025 says workers who qualify for overtime pay should be able to choose to receive compensatory time rather than time-and-a-half overtime pay. The project says this idea aims to give workers more time with their families, but <strong>many worker advocates say it is a ploy to enable employers to twist workers\u2019 arms so that they take comp time instead of time-and-a-half pay.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.americanprogress.org\/article\/project-2025-would-exploit-child-labor-by-allowing-minors-to-work-in-dangerous-conditions-with-fewer-protections\/#:~:text=Despite%20strong%20evidence%20that%20dangerous,against%20hazardous%20work%20for%20children.\">Center for American Progress<\/a>: <strong>\u201cProject 2025 Would Exploit Child Labor by Allowing Minors To Work in Dangerous Conditions With Fewer Protections\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDespite strong evidence that dangerous child labor can harm young workers, the far-right authoritarian playbook known as Project 2025 proposes eliminating protections against hazardous work for children.
