Donald Trump is traveling to Warren this evening, where he will undoubtedly spread his typical falsehoods about his record on auto manufacturing. Michigan workers know the truth, however, after living through the consequences of his disastrous actions. Hundreds of auto workers lost their jobs after a GM plant closed<\/a> on Trump\u2019s watch, all after Trump promised them that there would be no plant closures during his presidency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDonald Trump broke his promises to Michigan auto workers time and time again. He told them that they wouldn\u2019t \u2018lose one plant,\u2019 then turned his back on hundreds of workers as they lost their jobs. Trump left Michigan\u2019s auto industry flailing, and there\u2019s no doubt he\u2019ll do it again,\u201d said DNC Spokesperson Stephanie Justice<\/strong>. <\/strong>\u201cThe Biden-Harris administration cleaned up Trump\u2019s mess, and Michiganders know they can\u2019t allow Trump to leave them behind again. They’ll elect Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz in November so that they can continue to invest in Michigan manufacturing and uplift workers across the state.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Time and time again, Trump promised auto workers in Michigan that he would bring back their jobs and open new plants \u2013 but the state\u2019s auto industry instead bled jobs, and one plant closed altogether under his watch.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Detroit Free Press<\/a>: \u201c\u2018We brought you a lot of car plants, we brought you a lot … and we\u2019re going to bring you a lot more<\/strong>,\u2019 Trump began his speech at MBS International Airport in Freeland.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FactCheck<\/a>: \u201cAs of August, those [motor vehicle and parts manufacturing] Michigan jobs stood at 155,800, down 18,400 from the month Trump was inaugurated.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

CNN<\/a>: \u201cGeneral Motors\u2019 78-year-old transmission plant in Warren, Michigan is halting production this week.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump constantly antagonized auto workers and their unions, despite the key role they play in creating good-paying jobs for Michigan families.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Washington Post<\/a>: \u201c\u2018You could have let [Detroit\u2019s auto industry] go, and rebuilt itself, through the free enterprise system,\u2019 said Trump. \u2018You could have let it go bankrupt, frankly, and rebuilt itself, and a lot of people felt it should happen.<\/strong>\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
