In case you missed it: Donald Trump praised the January 6 insurrection as \u201ca day of love\u201d; Trump doubled down on calling fellow Americans \u201cthe enemy from within\u201d; new polling confirmed that most Americans are still opposed to the extreme, out-of-touch Trump-Vance Project 2025 agenda; Trump \u2014 who paved the way for attacks on IVF access \u2014 declared himself \u201cthe father of IVF\u201d and then tried to cover for his extreme anti-choice agenda with delusional claims that he\u2019s popular among women; JD Vance said Trump did not lose the 2020 election (he did); Vance claimed that he never supported a national abortion ban (he did); Vance tried to cover for Trump\u2019s Project 2025 plans to go after his political opponents\u2026 as Trump confirmed that he will do just that; new reporting showed that Trump\u2019s proposed national sales tax would dramatically raise costs for U.S. consumers, and especially punish lower-income Americans; and Trump swayed and bopped to music for thirty-nine minutes instead of answering questions from town hall attendees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Donald Trump praised the violent January 6 insurrection he rallied as \u201ca day of love,\u201d echoing his many shameless attempts to whitewash the violence on that day.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/politics\/live-news\/trump-town-hall-harris-fox-interview-10-16-24#cm2cetghq000j3b6ohdyd9hen\">Donald Trump<\/a>: \u201cNothing done wrong at all. Nothing done wrong. [&#8230;] That was a day of love.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DNCWarRoom\/status\/1680362730803306496?s=20\">Trump<\/a>: \u201cJanuary 6, it was the largest crowd I\u2019ve ever spoken to. And they were there proud, they were there with love in their heart. That was an unbelievable \u2014 and it was a beautiful day.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Trump \u2014 who is becoming increasingly unstable and unhinged \u2014 doubled down on calling fellow Americans \u201cthe enemy from within.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/10\/15\/us\/politics\/trump-fox-news-women-town-hall.html\">New York Times<\/a>: \u201cAt Town Hall on Women\u2019s Issues, Trump Renews \u2018Enemy Within\u2019 Talk\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFormer President Donald J. Trump reiterated his belief that Democrats are \u2018the enemy from within\u2019 during a Fox News town hall on Tuesday billed as a conversation about women\u2019s issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cVice President Kamala Harris has sought to highlight Mr. Trump\u2019s recent inflammatory comments, arguing that he has grown \u2018increasingly unstable and unhinged\u2019 in the final weeks of the campaign. During a stump speech on Monday in Erie, Pa., Ms. Harris played footage of an earlier interview he had conducted with Fox News in which he called the Democratic Party and individual lawmakers an \u2018enemy from within\u2019 and said they were more dangerous than foreign adversaries.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>New polling confirmed that most Americans are still opposed to the extreme, out of touch Trump-Vance Project 2025 agenda, which \u201caccurately describes\u201d Trump\u2019s plans for a second term.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/navigatorresearch.org\/a-majority-of-americans-continue-to-oppose-project-2025\/\">Navigator Research<\/a>: \u201cA Majority of Americans Continue to Oppose Project 2025\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cProject 2025 remains deeply unpopular.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA majority of Americans oppose Project 2025 (52 percent oppose \u2013 13 percent support), including three in four Democrats (net -69; 76 percent oppose \u2013 7 percent support), two in five independents (net -30; 40 percent oppose \u2013 10 percent support), and three in ten Republicans (net -8; 29 percent oppose \u2013 21 percent support). While Republicans who identify with the MAGA movement narrowly support Project 2025 (net +6; 30 percent support \u2013 24 percent support), it is underwater by 25 points among non-MAGA Republicans, of which only one in ten support it (10 percent support \u2013 35 percent support).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cProject 2025 is also widely opposed across racial groups, including at least half of Black Americans (net -43; 56 percent oppose \u2013 13 percent support), white Americans (net -38; 51 percent oppose \u2013 13 percent support), Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (net -37; 13 percent support \u2013 50 percent oppose), and Hispanic Americans (net -35; 52 percent oppose \u2013 17 percent support) saying they oppose it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAmericans believe Project 2025 accurately describes what Trump stands for by double-digit margins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA plurality of Americans believe that Project 2025 accurately describes what Trump stands for (48 percent agree \u2013 20 percent disagree \u2013 32 percent not sure), largely driven by Democrats (73 percent). A similar share says Project 2025 accurately describes what Republicans in Congress stand for (47 percent agree \u2013 19 percent disagree \u2013 34 percent not sure).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn an open-ended question asking those who have read, seen, or heard at least some about Project 2025, \u2018Trump\u2019 and \u2018abortion\u2019 have become increasingly cited by respondents over the last two months.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Trump \u2014 who paved the way for attacks on IVF access \u2014 declared himself \u201cthe father of IVF\u201d\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/CHueyBurns\/status\/1846573674372923770\">Caitlin Huey-Burns, CBS<\/a>: \u201cTrump\u2019s claim that he is the \u2018father of IVF\u2019 is not only false, it\u2019s objectively absurd. In the same town hall, he said that he had to ask Sen. Katie Britt to explain IVF to him. Those two statements are completely at odds with one another.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/IsaacDovere\/status\/1846358785952305460\">Edward-Isaac Dovere, CNN<\/a>: \u201c\u2018I\u2019m the father of IVF,\u2019 Trump said at his Fox town hall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIVF was first done successfully in 1978.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe only reason IVF access became an issue now is b\/c of Dobbs, made possible by [Trump\u2019s] appointments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn September, Vance skipped the vote on a \u201cRight to IVF\u201d bill on the floor.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/02\/24\/health\/alabama-ivf-roe-v-wade\/index.html#:~:text=That%20decision%20is%20the%20first,Roe%20v.%20Wade%20in%202022.\">CNN<\/a>: \u201cHow the reversal of Roe v. Wade led to the Alabama Supreme Court ruling that frozen embryos are children\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/02\/25\/us\/politics\/alabama-ivf-ruling-republicans-democrats.html\">New York Times<\/a>: \u201c[The Alabama ruling was] made possible by the Supreme Court\u2019s overturning of Roe v. Wade in its 2022 Dobbs decision, which was a result of Mr. Trump\u2019s appointment of three justices.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u2026and then tried to cover for his extreme anti-choice agenda with delusional claims that he\u2019s popular among women (something <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/kamalahq\/status\/1829257513130172446?s=46&amp;t=ls87QPbTuOCOdDfWvWTC1Q\"><strong>even he knows isn\u2019t true<\/strong><\/a><strong>).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/KamalaHQ\/status\/1847257020103065850\">Trump<\/a>:<strong> <\/strong>\u201cI think I do very well with women [&#8230;] without abortion, women love me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>JD Vance said Trump did not lose the 2020 election (he did).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=atp_B7_iqgM\">Questioner<\/a>: \u201cWhat message do you think it sends to independent voters when you do not directly answer the question did Donald Trump lose in 2020?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>JD Vance: \u201cOn the election of 2020 I\u2019ve answered this question directly a million times. No, I think there are serious problems in 2020, so did Donald Trump lose the election? Not by the words that I would use [&#8230;] I really couldn&#8217;t care less if you agree or disagree with me on this issue.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/2024-election\/live-blog\/trump-harris-election-live-updates-rcna175179\/rcrd60353?canonicalCard=true\">NBC News<\/a>: \u201cOn stage in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, Vance said that he does not believe Trump lost the 2020 election. Asked if Trump lost he said, \u2018No.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is the first time Vance has explicitly said \u2018no\u2019 when asked if the former president lost the 2020 election. He previously said he saw issues with the election, including at the vice presidential debate where he said \u2018I\u2019m focused on the future\u2019 instead of answering if Trump lost.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Vance claimed that he never supported a national abortion ban (he did).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/philadelphia\/video\/ohio-sen-jd-vance-discusses-election-results-abortion-policy-pennsylvania-voters\/\">Josh Sanders, CBS News Philadelphia<\/a>: \u201cYou\u2019re on record of wanting a national abortion ban.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vance: \u201cNo, no.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sanders: \u201cYou\u2019ve been on record.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[&#8230;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sanders: \u201cWhat do you tell women that would say that America is now a more dangerous place for them after the overturning of <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em>, what would be your message to those women?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vance: \u201cWell first of all you just took a Democratic talking point and put words in my mouth.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Vance tried to cover for Trump\u2019s Project 2025 plans to go after his political opponents \u2014 as Trump confirmed that he will go after his political opponents if reelected.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2024\/10\/16\/vance-falsely-claims-trump-didnt-go-after-his-enemies\/\">Washington Post<\/a>: \u201cVance falsely claims Trump \u2018didn\u2019t go after\u2019 his enemies\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAt almost the same moment Vance made this comment, in response to a question about whether Trump in a second term would \u2018go after his political opponent,\u2019 Trump, Vance\u2019s running mate, was on Fox News, speaking to host Maria Bartiromo about his concerns about the election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c\u2018I think the bigger problem is the enemy from within,\u2019 Trump said. \u2018We have some very bad people. We have some sick people, radical left lunatics. And I think they\u2019re the \u2014 and it should be easily handled by, if necessary, by National Guard, or if really necessary, by the military, because they can\u2019t let that happen.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a familiar pattern of a Trump surrogate playing down Trump\u2019s words and actions \u2014 and then Trump almost immediately blasting past the talking point. In this instance, he suggested he would use the military, not just the Justice Department, to go after political opponents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe record clearly shows that while no indictment was brought against Trump\u2019s political opponents during his presidency, it wasn\u2019t for lack of trying. Trump demanded investigations of numerous people. The Justice Department dutifully conducted the probes. But not enough evidence was found to bring an indictment. In one case, the evidence was so lacking that the grand jury reportedly refused to indict \u2014 a rare occurrence.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>New reporting confirmed that Trump\u2019s proposed national sales tax would dramatically raise costs for U.S. consumers, and especially punish lower-income Americans.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/business\/2024\/10\/16\/trump-tariffs-impact-economy\/?_pml=1\">Washington Post<\/a>: \u201c\u2018Off the charts\u2019: How Trump tariffs would shock U.S., world economies\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFormer president Donald Trump is campaigning on the most significant increase in tariffs in close to a century, preparing an attack on the international trade order that would likely raise prices, hurt the stock market and spark economic feuds with much of the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe consequences would be far-reaching: Americans would be hit by higher prices for grocery staples from abroad, such as fruit, vegetables and coffee. Domestic firms dependent on imports would need to either figure out new supply chains or raise costs for consumers. Kristi L. Noem (R), began with questions from preselected attendees for the former president. Donald Trump offered meandering answers on how he would address housing affordability and help small businesses. But it took a sudden turn after two attendees required medical attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAnd so Trump, after jokingly asking the crowd whether \u2018anybody else would like to faint,\u2019 took a different approach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c\u2018Let\u2019s not do any more questions. Let\u2019s just listen to music. Let\u2019s make it into a music. Who the hell wants to hear questions, right?\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFor 39 minutes, Trump swayed, bopped \u2014 sometimes stopping to speak \u2014 as he turned the event into almost a living-room listening session of his favorite songs from his self-curated rally playlist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe played nine tracks. He danced. He shook hands with people onstage. He pointed to the crowd. Noem stood beside him, nodding with her hands clasped. Trump stayed in place onstage, slowly moving back and forth.
