In case you missed it: New reporting revealed Donald Trump said \u201cI need the kind of generals that Hitler had,\u201d and repeatedly denigrated military service during his time in office; JD Vance said to \u201cshut the hell up\u201d about Trump\u2019s chief of staff calling him a \u201cfascist\u201d; Trump shamelessly tried to distance himself from disgraced gubernatorial candidate Mark Robinson\u2026 before Vance praised Robinson as a \u201cgreat Lieutenant Governor\u201d; Trump doubled down on his threats to attack Americans as \u201cthe enemy from within,\u201d which Vance defended as \u201ctotally reasonable\u201d; the New York Times documented the many, many links between Project 2025 and the Trump-Vance campaign; new reporting revealed Trump\u2019s campaign manager shared posts calling January 6 an \u201cinsurrection\u201d based on \u201ca lie that Trump told\u201d; Vance refused to commit to accepting Arizona\u2019s election results; and the Washington Post reported that Trump\u2019s proposals could drain Social Security in <em>six years<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>New reporting revealed Donald Trump said \u201cI need the kind of generals that Hitler had,\u201d and repeatedly denigrated military service during his time in office.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/politics\/archive\/2024\/10\/trump-military-generals-hitler\/680327\/\">The Atlantic<\/a>: \u201cTrump has frequently voiced his disdain for those who serve in the military and for their devotion to duty, honor, and sacrifice. Former generals who have worked for Trump say that the sole military virtue he prizes is obedience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs his presidency drew to a close, and in the years since, he has become more and more interested in the advantages of dictatorship, and the absolute control over the military that he believes it would deliver. \u2018I need the kind of generals that Hitler had,\u2019 Trump said in a private conversation in the White House, according to two people who heard him say this. \u2018People who were totally loyal to him, that follow orders.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn recent days, [Trump] has signaled that, should he win reelection in November, he would like to govern in the manner of these dictators\u2014he has said explicitly that he would like to be a dictator for a day on his first day back in the White House\u2014and he has threatened to, among other things, unleash the military on \u2018radical-left lunatics.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>JD Vance\u2019s response to a question about John Kelly calling Trump a \u201cfascist\u201d and revealing his praise for Hitler\u2019s generals was \u201cshut the hell up about what happened four years ago.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=nTjvizyEr08\">Question<\/a>: \u201cMy question is I wanted to get your reaction to President Trump&#8217;s former chief of staff, John Kelly, who told the New York Times that Trump could rule like a dictator and meets the definition of a fascist. Just want to get your reaction, sir.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>JD Vance: \u201cYeah. Look, you could just, look you could just record the boos of the crowd and that\u2019s my response to that question. [&#8230;] Talk about the future, Kamala Harris, talk about what you want to do, and shut the hell up about what happened four years ago.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Despite having enthusiastically endorsed and campaigned for him, Trump shamelessly tried to distance himself from <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/09\/19\/politics\/kfile-mark-robinson-black-nazi-pro-slavery-porn-forum\/index.html\"><strong>self-described \u201cNazi\u201d<\/strong><\/a><strong> Mark Robinson, whom he previously described as \u201cMLK on steroids\u201d \u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/live-updates\/2024\/10\/21\/2024-elections-live-coverage-updates-analysis\/trump-mark-robinson-north-carolina-00184689\">Politico<\/a>: \u201cAsked by POLITICO at a campaign stop on Monday whether he would urge voters here to still support Mark Robinson, Trump declined to say either way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c\u2018I\u2019m not familiar with the state of the race right now,\u2019 Trump told POLITICO as he prepared to step into the black SUV that would whisk him back to his private plane. \u2018I haven&#8217;t seen it.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/2024-election\/trump-compares-north-carolina-lt-gov-mark-robinson-martin-luther-king-rcna141523\">NBC News<\/a>:<strong> <\/strong>\u201c\u2018This is Martin Luther King on steroids,\u2019 Trump said of Robinson at a pre-Super Tuesday rally in North Carolina.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/mark-robinson-donald-trump-north-carolina-lt-governor-1956650\">Newsweek<\/a>: \u201c\u2018We have to cherish Mark &#8230; he\u2019s like a fine wine,\u2019 Trump said in the video. \u2018He\u2019s an outstanding person.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u2026 before Vance praised Robinson as a \u201cgreat Lieutenant Governor.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/alexjfloyd\/status\/1849890454948417762\">Vance<\/a>: \u201cI want to give a shout out to \u2014 you guys have a great Lieutenant Governor \u2026 sorry Mark isn\u2019t here.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Trump doubled down on his threats to attack Americans as \u201cthe enemy from within\u201d \u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/newrepublic.com\/post\/187394\/trump-expands-enemy-within-hit-list\">The New Republic<\/a>: \u201cTrump Doubles Down on \u201cEnemy Within\u201d Rhetoric in Alarming Threat\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c\u2018Who did that? Can you imagine somebody doing that? That\u2019s the enemy, I guess that maybe is the enemy from within, as I talk about. We have an enemy from within, they hate to talk about it. Could you imagine, could you imagine,\u2019 Trump said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOver the past week, the former president has repeatedly used the phrase \u2018enemy within\u2019 to describe his political opponents, specifically mentioning leading Democrats like Representatives Nancy Pelosi and Adam Schiff. And his latest statement shows he has no intention of backing away from the violent rhetoric.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTrump\u2019s former staff, including former Defense Secretary Mark Esper, say that his words are alarming and should not be dismissed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u2026 which Vance defended as \u201ctotally reasonable.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/iansams\/status\/1848354558759797002?s=46&amp;t=2jzT4vkxri9fAtZZ43TAJg\">Bill Hemmer, Fox News<\/a>: \u201cI\u2019ve read all of it, I\u2019ve listened to all of it, it\u2019s hard for me to know what he really means about it. But, that\u2019s not my question. My question is, why is it necessary?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vance: \u201cWell, Bill, first of all, Donald Trump is unfiltered [&#8230;] When people ask him questions, he speaks from the heart.\u201d [&#8230;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hemmer: \u201cIn this case\u2013 he mentioned Adam Schiff and Nancy Pelosi by name, in this case over the weekend.\u201d [&#8230;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vance: \u201cI think it\u2019s totally reasonable for the president to point out that yes, we\u2019ve got the strongest country in the world, but we do have some broken leaders in Washington.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/video.snapstream.net\/Play\/2CRyjJIO9fi8o6FO9Bq45u?accessToken=c7domudx8hm06\">Trump<\/a>: \u201cI think the bigger problem is the enemy from within\u2026 totally destroying our country\u2026 [I]n terms of Election Day, I think the bigger problem are the people from within. We have some very bad people. We have some sick people, radical left lunatics. And I think they\u2019re the big \u2013 and it should be very easily handled by, if necessary, by [the] National Guard, or if really necessary, by the military, because they can\u2019t let that happen.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The New York Times documented the many, many links between Project 2025 and the Trump-Vance campaign.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2024\/10\/22\/us\/politics\/project-2025-trump-heritage-foundation.html\">New York Times<\/a>: \u201cThe Many Links Between Project 2025 and Trump\u2019s World\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cProject 2025 has numerous ties to Mr. Trump and his campaign, a New York Times analysis has found.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe people behind Project 2025 are no strangers to the former president. The Heritage Foundation\u2019s president, Kevin D. Roberts, and a co-founder, Edwin J. Feulner, have each personally met with Mr. Trump. And the analysis of the Project 2025 playbook and its 307 authors and contributors revealed that well over half of them had been in Mr. Trump\u2019s administration or on his campaign or transition teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLarge portions of the \u2018Mandate for Leadership,\u2019 the driving document behind Project 2025, were written by longtime Trump loyalists who were advisers to Mr. Trump during his first term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEighteen of the 40 authors and editors who worked on the document served in the first Trump administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe president of the Heritage Foundation told The New York Times in an interview in January that he views the foundation\u2019s role as \u2018institutionalizing Trumpism.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>New reporting revealed Trump\u2019s campaign manager shared posts calling January 6 an \u201cinsurrection\u201d based on \u201ca lie that Trump told.\u201d&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/10\/23\/politics\/trump-campaign-manager-january-6\/index.html\">CNN<\/a>: \u201cIn a series of reposts on X \u2013 formerly Twitter \u2013 LaCivita shared comments calling January 6 an \u2018insurrection\u2019 that was fueled by Trump\u2019s baseless election lies. Some of those posts have since been deleted from LaCivita\u2019s feed, but CNN was able to review them on the Internet Archive WayBack Machine, which archives internet webpages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOn January 6, 2021, LaCivita reposted several posts that harshly condemned Trump, suggesting that even some of his closest allies once viewed the deadly outcome as a direct result of Trump\u2019s lies. [&#8230;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLaCivita\u2019s shared posts included a statement on January 6 from former President George W. Bush, who expressed \u2018disbelief and dismay\u2019 at the violent assault on the Capitol, calling it \u2018a sickening and heartbreaking sight.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Vance refused to commit to accepting the 2024 election results.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/5VM4gtX7-ZY?t=1866\">Question<\/a>: \u201cThe election is two weeks from today. I\u2019m not going to be asking you about four years ago, but from what you\u2019ve seen, from what you\u2019ve learned, are you confident in the Arizona election system, and are you going to accept the results moving forward?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vance: \u201cWell, look, I think that we\u2019re in a better- I think that we\u2019re in a better place than we were in 2020 and I think that what we\u2019re going to keep on working on over the next couple of weeks. I mean, you saw this even in 2022 where some of the voting machines in Maricopa went down on Election Day. Now, whether, now again, whether you think that was just incompetence or something else, it\u2019s not okay. We want every legal ballot to be cast and to be counted in the United States of America. So we\u2019re going to keep on fighting for election integrity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Washington Post reported that Trump\u2019s proposals could drain Social Security in <\/strong><strong><em>six years<\/em><\/strong><strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/business\/2024\/10\/21\/social-security-crfb-trump-harris\/\">Washington Post<\/a>: \u201cA new report projects that the Social Security Trust Fund might run out of money within six years under a Donald Trump presidency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMany of Trump\u2019s campaign proposals would accelerate [Social Security\u2019s insolvency] timeline, potentially by years, said the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, a nonpartisan group that opposes large federal deficits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn a report released Monday, the organization concluded that many of Trump\u2019s proposed second-term agenda items all work in the same direction when it comes to the Social Security Trust Fund.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MAGA Republicans stooped to new lows this week with their extremism, hypocrisy, chaos, and \u2014 as President Biden would call it \u2014 malarkey.
