In response to JD Vance defending Donald Trump\u2019s threats to attack American citizens, which he called the \u201cenemy from within,\u201d <\/em>DNC Rapid Response Director Alex Floyd released the following statement: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cJD Vance is showing us exactly the kind of danger the Trump-Vance ticket poses to our democracy by doubling down on Donald Trump\u2019s appalling comments attacking Americans as the \u2018enemy from within\u2019 and saying that they are a \u2018bigger threat\u2019 than any \u2018foreign adversary.\u2019 Those who know Trump best have already told us that he\u2019ll put our democracy at risk if given the chance \u2013 and the only way to stop him is at the ballot box this November.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

NEW: JD Vance said he does \u201cagree with\u201d Donald Trump\u2019s \u201cenemy from within\u201d comments, attacking American citizens as a bigger threat than any \u201cforeign adversary.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kristen Welker, NBC<\/a>: \u201cDonald Trump recently called his domestic political opponents, quote, \u2018the enemy from within,\u2019 and said they are more dangerous than Russia and China. Do you believe that people like Adam Schiff and Nancy Pelosi are more dangerous than Russia and China?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vance: \u201cWell, I think what Donald Trump said is that those folks pose a greater threat to the United States\u2019 peace and security,<\/strong> because America is strong enough to stand up to any foreign adversary.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Welker: \u201cDo you agree with him, they pose a larger threat to the United States than Russia and China\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vance: \u201cWhat he said, and I do agree with this, what he said, is that the biggest threat we have in our country, it’s not a foreign adversary, because we can handle these guys.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

REMINDER: Trump threatened to weaponize the National Guard and military against American citizens to destroy the \u201cenemy from within,\u201d which Vance defended as \u201ctotally reasonable.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cI think the bigger problem is the enemy from within \u2026 totally destroying our country. <\/strong>\u2026 In terms of Election Day, I think the bigger problem are the people from within. <\/strong>We have some very bad people. We have some sick people, radical left lunatics. And I think they\u2019re the big \u2013 and it should be very easily handled by, if necessary, by [the] National Guard, or if really necessary, by the military, because they can\u2019t let that happen.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Howard Kurtz, Fox News<\/a>: \u201cI want to drill down on this question of retribution against your political opponents, because you\u2019ve had opportunities to walk that back. And my question is this: are you prepared to say now that you will not use law enforcement to punish or prosecute your political opponents?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump: \u201cExcuse me, that’s what they\u2019re using on me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kurtz: \u201cYou talk about the enemy within. There\u2019s America\u2019s enemies outside, \u2018the enemy within\u2019 is a pretty ominous phrase if you\u2019re talking about other Americans.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump: \u201cI think it\u2019s accurate. I mean, I think it\u2019s accurate.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kurtz: \u201cWho are you talking about because the enemy \u2013\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump: \u201cBut what they\u2019ve done is so terrible. Who\u2019s ever heard of anything like this? Adam \u2018Shifty\u2019 Schiff. He\u2019s a crooked guy. He\u2019s a crooked politician. One hundred percent he\u2019s going to be a senator now, can you believe it?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kurtz: \u201cBut again, he\u2019s a political opponent of yours, is he the enemy?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump: \u201cNo, he\u2019s a well, he\u2019s, of course, he\u2019s an enemy. He\u2019s an enemy. \u2026 These are bad people. We have a lot of bad people, but when you look at \u2018Shifty\u2019 Schiff and some of the others, yeah, they are, to me, the enemy from within. I think Nancy Pelosi is an enemy from within.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bill Hemmer, Fox News<\/a>: \u201cI\u2019ve read all of it, I\u2019ve listened to all of it, it\u2019s hard for me to know what he really means about it. But, that\u2019s not my question. My question is, why is it necessary?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

JD Vance: \u201cWell, Bill, first of all, Donald Trump is unfiltered … When people ask him questions, he speaks from the heart.\u201d …<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hemmer: \u201cIn this case \u2013 he mentioned Adam Schiff and Nancy Pelosi by name, in this case over the weekend.\u201d<\/strong> […]<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vance: \u201cI think it\u2019s totally reasonable<\/strong> for the president to point out that yes, we\u2019ve got the strongest country in the world, but we do have some broken leaders in Washington.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just this week, new recordings revealed Trump\u2019s former chief of staff calling him a \u201cfascist\u201d and saying that Trump wanted \u201cthe kind of generals Hitler had.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Atlantic<\/a>: \u201cAs his presidency drew to a close, and in the years since, he has become more and more interested in the advantages of dictatorship, and the absolute control over the military that he believes it would deliver. \u2018I need the kind of generals that Hitler had,\u2019 Trump said in a private conversation in the White House<\/strong>, according to two people who heard him say this. \u2018People who were totally loyal to him, that follow orders.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New York Times<\/a>: \u201c[Gen. Kelly] said that, in his opinion, Mr. Trump met the definition of a fascist, would govern like a dictator if allowed, and had no understanding of the Constitution or the concept of rule of law. …<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMr. Trump\u2019s recent comments about using the military against what he called the \u2018enemy within\u2019 were so dangerous, he said, that he felt he had to speak out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018And I think this issue of using the military on \u2014 to go after \u2014 American citizens is one of those things I think is a very, very bad thing \u2014 even to say it for political purposes to get elected \u2014 I think it\u2019s a very, very bad thing, let alone actually doing it,\u2019 Mr. Kelly said.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When asked about Trump\u2019s praise for Hitler\u2019s generals, Vance said to \u201cshut the hell up about what happened four years ago.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dave Kinchen, Fox 2<\/a>: \u201cMy question is I wanted to get your reaction to President Trump’s former chief of staff, John Kelly, who told The New York Times that Trump could rule like a dictator and meets the definition of a fascist. Just want to get your reaction, sir.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vance: \u201cYeah. Look, you could just, look you could just record the boos of the crowd and that\u2019s my response to that question. … Talk about the future, Kamala Harris, talk about what you want to do, and shut the hell up about what happened four years ago<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump, who is vowing to be a dictator on \u201cday one,\u201d told voters they \u201cwon\u2019t have to vote anymore\u201d if he\u2019s elected president. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
