In response to Donald Trump\u2019s MAGA minions in Congress attempting to <\/em>stop the expansion of<\/em><\/a> IVF access for service members, <\/em>DNC Rapid Response Spokesperson Aida Ross<\/em><\/strong> <\/em>released the following statement:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDonald Trump\u2019s extreme anti-choice allies in Congress are trying to rip away provisions that would expand IVF access for service members trying to start or grow their families \u2014 while the future of IVF is already at risk because Trump overturned Roe v. Wade<\/em>. Make no mistake: Trump\u2019s loyalists are laying the groundwork for him to implement his dangerous and wildly unpopular Project 2025 plans on day one to rip away our reproductive freedoms. But no matter what dangerous attacks Trump and the GOP launch against our fundamental rights, Democrats will keep fighting back at every turn.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two Donald Trump-endorsed House Republicans, <\/strong>Matt Rosendale<\/strong><\/a> and <\/strong>Josh Brecheen<\/strong><\/a>, are trying to gut provisions that would expand IVF access for service members \u2014 critical treatments they attack as \u201cineffective\u201d and a \u201cdestruction of innocent human life.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hill<\/a>: \u201cA pair of House Republicans are asking House and Senate Armed Services committee leadership not to include provisions expanding access to in vitro fertilization (IVF) in the annual defense authorization bill. …<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLawmakers specifically asked committee leaders to exclude a House-passed provision for \u2018assisted reproductive technology\u2019 for certain armed forces members under Tricare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018Section 701 is a dramatic expansion of IVF that will cost taxpayers approximately $1 billion per year. While we have great sympathy for couples who are having difficulty starting a family, IVF is ineffective, leads to the destruction of innocent human life, <\/strong>and does nothing to treat the root cause of a couple\u2019s infertility,\u2019 Rosendale and Brecheen wrote. …<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cRosendale has been a leading critical voice against IVF in Congress and has filed multiple amendments to bills to stop funding from being spent on IVF.<\/strong> But with Rosendale having opted out of a reelection bid, Brecheen\u2019s name on the letter indicates that IVF skepticism will remain in the GOP on Capitol Hill.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump made attacks on IVF access possible by \u201cproudly\u201d overturning <\/strong>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong> \u2014 and then made the \u201c<\/strong>objectively absurd<\/strong><\/a>\u201d claim that he\u2019s the \u201cfather of IVF.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Caitlin Huey-Burns, CBS<\/a>: \u201cTrump\u2019s claim that he is the \u2018father of IVF\u2019 is not only false, it\u2019s objectively absurd.<\/strong> In the same town hall, he said that he had to ask Sen. Katie Britt to explain IVF to him. Those two statements are completely at odds with one another.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Edward-Isaac Dovere, CNN<\/a>: \u201c\u2018I\u2019m the father of IVF,\u2019 Trump said at his Fox town hall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIVF was first done successfully in 1978. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe only reason IVF access became an issue now is b\/c of Dobbs, made possible by [Trump\u2019s] appointments.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn September, Vance skipped the vote on a \u2018Right to IVF\u2019 bill on the floor.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CNN<\/a>: \u201cHow the reversal of Roe v. Wade led to the Alabama Supreme Court ruling that frozen embryos are children\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

New York Times<\/a>: \u201c[The Alabama ruling was] made possible by the Supreme Court\u2019s overturning of Roe v. Wade in its 2022 Dobbs decision, which was a result of Mr. Trump\u2019s appointment of three justices.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The current Republican presidential nominee \u2015 who has repeatedly bragged about his role in repealing federal abortion protections \u2015 has deep ties to extreme right-wing organizations that actively oppose IVF.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDuring his time as president, Trump appointed several extreme anti-IVF advocates to positions of power \u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAbortion rights advocates have warned that the anti-choice movement would come for IVF and fertility treatments once Roe v. Wade<\/em> fell. Currently, more than a dozen states are considering laws that would enshrine fetal personhood, threatening IVF and other fertility treatments.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Trump-Vance Project 2025 agenda would threaten IVF access for millions of women, and their extremist allies are already plotting the best ways for Trump to restrict it. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe list of policy suggestions in the recent blog post echoes the MAGA-backed Project 2025, a comprehensive plan Heritage has spearheaded for the next GOP presidential administration<\/strong> that includes calls to eliminate the term \u2018reproductive health\u2019 from federal rules and regulations and to tighten restrictions on abortion rights and access to certain emergency contraceptives. In its pieces on IVF, Heritage expands on the extreme conservative agenda outlined by Project 2025.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
