Yesterday, Donald Trump doubled down<\/a> on his long-standing goal: repealing the Affordable Care Act and ripping away protections for millions of Americans with preexisting conditions. Trump already spent his first term trying to \u201cterminate\u201d the ACA \u2014 a wildly unpopular<\/a> effort that came one vote short \u2014  and is ready to put Americans\u2019 health care in jeopardy again in his second term. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

YESTERDAY: Donald Trump confirmed that his \u201cconcepts of a plan\u201d for health care includes repealing the Affordable Care Act, which would put critical protections and coverage for over 100 million Americans at risk. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kristen Welker, NBC News<\/a>: \u201cSir, you said during the campaign, you have concepts of a plan. Do you have an actual plan at this point for health care?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump: \u201cYes. We have concepts of a plan that would be better.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Welker: \u201cStill just concepts? Do you have a fully developed plan?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump: \u201cLet me explain. We have the biggest health care companies looking at it. We have doctors. We’re always looking because Obamacare stinks.<\/strong> It’s lousy. There are better answers. If we come up with a better answer,<\/strong> I would present that answer to Democrats and to everybody else, and I\u2019d do something about it.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spectrum News<\/a>: \u201cThe ACA protects more than 100 million people with preexisting conditions from being denied care, plus it requires insurance plans to cover things like preventive care and limit out-of-pocket costs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

KFF Poll<\/a>: \u201cMajorities of Democrats [88%], Republicans [62%], and independents [73%] say it is ‘very important’ to continue each of [the Affordable Care Act\u2019s] protections for people with pre-existing conditions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ON THE TRAIL: The Trump-Vance ticket pushed to \u201c<\/strong>terminate<\/strong><\/a>\u201d the ACA, and Vance \u201csuggested repealing Obamacare would still be a priority.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cThe cost of Obamacare is out of control, plus, it\u2019s not good Healthcare. I\u2019m seriously looking at alternatives. We had a couple of Republican Senators who campaigned for 6 years against it, and then raised their hands not to terminate it. It was a low point for the Republican Party, but we should never give up!\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cObamacare is a disaster. And I said, \u2018We’re gonna do something about it.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cVance said the \u2018repeal and replace efforts\u2019 during Trump\u2019s presidency were \u2018fundamentally focused around the idea of fixing what was broken, not about stripping people\u2019s health care away. FACT: Repealing the Affordable Care Act is highly unpopular and would be devastating for millions of hardworking Americans.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

KFF Poll<\/a>: 64% believe it is \u201cvery important\u201d insurance companies continue to be prohibited from charging sick people more \u2013 including 55% of Republicans. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

NPR\/PBS NewsHour\/Marist Poll<\/a>: \u201cThirteen years after the Affordable Care Act was signed into law, more than eight in ten Americans (83%) either agree or strongly agree that all Americans have a basic right to healthcare coverage.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Washington Post<\/a>: \u201cBut what\u2019s clear is that an effort to \u2018terminate\u2019 Obamacare is not something Americans are pining for.
