Donald Trump <\/em>doubled down<\/em><\/a> this weekend on his dangerous agenda to repeal the Affordable Care Act \u2014 <\/em>popular<\/em><\/a> legislation that provides protections for more than 100 million Americans with preexisting conditions. <\/em>New polling<\/em><\/a> continues to show Americans overwhelmingly support the ACA \u2013 but after trying and failing to repeal the landmark health care law in his first term, Trump is making clear that, if given the chance, he\u2019ll put millions of Americans\u2019 health care at risk.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Donald Trump doubled down this weekend on his extreme agenda to repeal the ACA, which would gut protections for over 100 million Americans with preexisting conditions.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kristen Welker, NBC News<\/a>: \u201cSir, you said during the campaign, you have concepts of a plan. Do you have an actual plan at this point for health care?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump: \u201cYes. We have concepts of a plan that would be better.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Welker: \u201cStill just concepts? Do you have a fully developed plan?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump: \u201cLet me explain. We have the biggest health care companies looking at it. We have doctors. We’re always looking because Obamacare stinks.<\/strong> It’s lousy. There are better answers. If we come up with a better answer,<\/strong> I would present that answer to Democrats and to everybody else, and I\u2019d do something about it.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spectrum News<\/a>: \u201cThe ACA protects more than 100 million people with preexisting conditions from being denied care<\/strong>, plus it requires insurance plans to cover things like preventive care and limit out-of-pocket costs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Washington Post<\/a>: \u201cSen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) this week said the Trump campaign wants to roll back the Affordable Care Act\u2019s approach to how chronically ill Americans shop for health insurance<\/strong>, with the Republican vice-presidential candidate reopening a health-care debate that Democrats are eager to have \u2014 and resurrecting a fight that has repeatedly burned the GOP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSpeaking in North Carolina on Wednesday, Vance floated an idea to group chronically ill patients together in health-insurance pools based on their elevated risks. That would reverse a shift driven by the Affordable Care Act, which largely ended the practice of shunting chronically ill patients into what are known as high-risk pools and provided new protections for patients with preexisting conditions.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

New York Magazine<\/a>: \u201cVance: Trump\u2019s Health-Care Plan Is to Let Insurers Charge More for Preexisting Conditions\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat Vance came up with is not only surprising but, if understood properly, far more damaging than Trump\u2019s original statement. The Trump plan, according to Vance, is to permit insurance companies to discriminate against people with preexisting conditions.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

New polling showed the majority of Americans approve of the Affordable Care Act and think the government has a \u201cresponsibility to ensure all Americans have healthcare coverage.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Axios<\/a>: \u201cMajorities want to see public health programs strengthened, including 72% for food safety inspections, 71% for the Veterans Health Administration, 64% for Medicare, 57% for the CDC and 54% for Medicaid.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c73% say the Affordable Care Act should be strengthened or left as it is.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gallup<\/a>: \u201cSixty-two percent of U.S. adults, the highest percentage in more than a decade, say it is the federal government\u2019s responsibility to ensure all Americans have healthcare coverage.<\/strong> \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFifty-four percent of U.S. adults approve of the ACA,<\/strong> essentially tying the record-high 55% readings in April 2017 (during Republican-led attempts to repeal the law) and November 2020 (after Joe Biden won election as president).\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After coming up just one vote short of repealing the ACA when he was in office, Trump spent his campaign pledging repeal in a second term. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NBC News<\/a>: \u201cTrump approved a surprise decision to push for the complete elimination of the Affordable Care Act in the courts. If it succeeds, millions of Americans will lose their private insurance or Medicaid coverage and the health care system would be thrown into chaos.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NPR<\/a>: \u201cThe very day President Trump was sworn in \u2014 Jan. 20, 2017 \u2014 he signed an executive order instructing administration officials \u2018to waive, defer, grant exemptions from, or delay\u2019 implementing parts of the Affordable Care Act, while Congress got ready to repeal and replace President Obama\u2019s signature health law.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hill<\/a>: \u201cOn the campaign trail, Trump has doubled down on his promise to repeal the ACA, a feat he fell one vote short of in 2017.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
