In response to House Republicans passing their disastrous budget resolution, <\/em>DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAt Donald Trump\u2019s command, House Republicans just voted to give the greenlight to ripping away affordable health care from millions of Americans, forcing working families and children to go hungry, and devastating local economies to the tune of tens of billions of dollars \u2014 all to pay for another round of tax handouts for Trump\u2019s billionaire backers. The American people deserve a leader who places their needs above lining the pockets of the ultra-wealthy. The MAGA agenda couldn\u2019t be clearer: billionaires first, working families last.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

NEW: At Donald Trump\u2019s request, House Republicans advanced their disastrous funding agenda to gut critical programs like Medicaid while making permanent Trump\u2019s tax handouts for his billionaire backers. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cIt is IMPERATIVE that Republicans in the House pass the Tax Cut Bill, NOW!<\/strong> Our Country Will Boom!!!\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

NBC News<\/a>: \u201cSenate Republicans released a new budget blueprint Wednesday that would pave the way for \u2026 making President Donald Trump\u2019s 2017 tax cuts permanent.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

KFF<\/a>: \u201cCongress is currently targeting up to $880 billion or more in federal Medicaid spending reductions.<\/strong> The House passed a budget resolution instructing the House Energy & Commerce Committee (E&C) to reduce the federal deficit by at least $880 billion over 10 years. Although the budget resolution does not mention Medicaid, Medicaid comprises $8.2 trillion out of the $8.6 trillion in mandatory spending that E&C must use to come up with spending reductions (assuming Medicare cuts are off the table). As a result, major cuts to Medicaid are the only way to meet the House\u2019s budget resolution required $880 billion (or more) in spending reductions.\u201d<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Republicans are falling in line with Trump\u2019s plan to gut Medicaid and put health care on the chopping block for <\/strong>79 million<\/strong><\/a> Americans \u2014 a move that will devastate seniors, children, and rural folks.  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his FY18<\/a>, FY19<\/a>, FY20<\/a>, and FY21<\/a> budgets, Trump repeatedly proposed hundreds of billions in cuts to Medicaid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

KFF Health News<\/a>: \u201cRepublicans in Washington say they plan to use funding cuts and regulatory changes to dramatically shrink Medicaid, the nearly $900-billion-a-year government health insurance program that, along with the related Children\u2019s Health Insurance Program, serves about 79 million mostly low-income or disabled Americans.<\/strong> \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAdvocates for poor people fear GOP funding cuts will leave more Americans without insurance, making it harder for them to get care. <\/strong>\u2026 <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf the GOP\u2019s plans to shrink Medicaid are realized, Democrats and health experts say, low-income people forced to buy private insurance would face challenges paying monthly premiums<\/strong> and the large copayments and deductibles common to commercial plans that typically don\u2019t exist in Medicaid.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Republicans are also slashing SNAP \u2014 which benefits <\/strong>40 million<\/strong><\/a> Americans \u2014 and forcing working families and children to go hungry. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Center for Budget Policies and Priorities<\/a>: \u201cMillions of Low-Income Households Would Lose Food Aid Under Proposed House Republican SNAP Cuts\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe [House] budget resolution<\/strong> \u2026 directs the House Agriculture Committee to cut programs in its jurisdiction by at least $230 billion through 2034, with these cuts expected to come largely or entirely from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)<\/strong> and to be used to help pay for tax cuts for the wealthiest business owners and households. \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cRegardless of how Republican lawmakers enact a cut of this magnitude, this would slash more than 20 percent from a program that helps more than 40 million people, including 1 in 5 children, afford groceries.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Republicans\u2019 disastrous plan could also slash up to 1 million jobs nationwide and cost tens of billions of dollars, devastating local economies across the country. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Milken Institute of Public Health<\/a>: \u201cNEW REPORT: Federal Medicaid and SNAP Cuts Could Result in One Million Jobs Lost and State GDPs Falling by More than $110 Billion in 2026\u201d<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n
