In response to today\u2019s <\/em>consumer sentiment report<\/em><\/a>,<\/em> DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDonald Trump promised an economic \u2018golden age,\u2019 but it\u2019s almost Day 100 and Americans\u2019 economic expectations have fallen for the third straight month in a row \u2014 the steepest three-month decline since the 1990 Republican recession. As working families struggle to put food on the table, Trump is letting prices skyrocket while Americans\u2019 inflation expectations climb to the highest since 1981. Let\u2019s be clear: Trump is dragging the U.S. toward a recession and the American people are fed up.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NEW: Trump\u2019s chaotic economic agenda tanked consumer sentiment for the third straight month as Americans brace for higher inflation.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Survey of Consumers, University of Michigan<\/a>: \u201cConsumer sentiment fell for the fourth straight month, plunging 8% from March.<\/strong> \u2026 Expectations have fallen a precipitous 32% since January, the steepest three-month percentage decline seen since the 1990 recession. \u2026<\/strong> Even more concerning for the path of the economy, consumers anticipated weaker income growth for themselves in the year ahead. Without reliably strong incomes, spending is unlikely to remain strong amid the numerous warnings signs perceived by consumers.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYear-ahead inflation expectations surged from 5.0% last month to 6.5% this month, the highest reading since 1981<\/strong> and marking four consecutive months of unusually large increases of 0.5 percentage points or more.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bloomberg<\/a>: \u201cUS consumer sentiment fell to one of the lowest readings on record and long-term inflation expectations climbed to the highest since 1991 on fears of the economic fallout from tariffs \u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
