From the airwaves to press calls, Democrats slammed House Republicans for prioritizing a \u201cbillionaires first\u201d budget that enriches the ultra-wealthy on the backs of hardworking Americans and highlighted the devastating impacts Trump\u2019s disastrous budget bill will have on working families. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNebraska democrats called on Rep. Don Bacon to vote \u2018no\u2019 on President Donald Trump’s budget bill that intends to make cuts to SNAP and Medicaid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDistrict 11 state Sen. Terrell McKinney and Nebraska Democratic Party Chair Jane Kleeb held a press conference on Wednesday in an attempt to put the pressure on Bacon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMcKinney and Kleeb emphasized the bill would impact Nebraskans and Americans across the who depend on these programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018One in eight Nebraskans rely on nutrition assistance and more than half are families with children,\u2019 said McKinney.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDeluzio warned that the Republican plan could raise the national debt by $3 trillion and harm millions of Americans with cuts to Medicaid and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits in order to pay for President Donald Trump\u2019s tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cState Sen. Sharif Street, the Pennsylvania Democratic Party chairman, along with Rep. Chris Deluzio (D-PA) and state Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta, the Democratic National Committee vice chairman, aired their grievances against the House spending bill in a Friday press call. \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDeluzio, speaking first, denounced the bill as \u2018fiscally reckless,\u2019 and claimed that conservative hard-liners voted against the first bill, \u2018because, I guess, they want to take healthcare away from even more Americans.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018This Republican plan is fiscally reckless,\u2019 he said. \u2018It would add trillions, by some measures, around $3 trillion to the national debt that we all would pay for. It would funnel tax giveaways to the richest people on the planet, the biggest corporations, at the expense of cuts to healthcare, food assistance, and more. It\u2019s not that complicated what they\u2019re trying to do. It\u2019s dangerous. Going to hurt a lot of folks who we represent in Pennsylvania.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cKenyatta gave an even more impassioned appeal, using profanity while trying to portray the bill as part of a sinister plot by the rich to harm the poor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018And so you have to ask the question, what is enough for these guys, who are putting their interest and their need for tax breaks at the top of the list over everything else that we should be doing?\u2019 he asked. \u2018When is enough? How many jets do you need? How many planes do you need? How many private islands can you even spend time on?\u2019 \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018He\u2019s got thin margins,\u2019 Street added. \u2018There are a number of people who need to understand that their constituents are watching and they\u2019re paying attention, and there will be a political price to pay. And while Donald Trump may not have to run for reelection again, congressional Republicans are up there, are on the ballot, and they need to understand, and they will understand that they could lose their seats.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe DNC, since launching their \u2018Fight to Save Medicaid\u2019 campaign, has insisted that Fitzpatrick\u2019s actions do not reflect the \u2018moderate\u2019 Republican he has claimed to be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018He puts up these signs during election time about how he\u2019s the most bipartisan, moderate member of Congress,\u2019 Kenyatta said. \u2018A part of what we need to do at this moment is not allow Brian or Rob Bresnahan or Ryan McKenzie to continue to position themselves with a label that they have not earned.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, Congresswoman Hillary Scholten and Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party Curtis Hertel held a press conference highlighting the possible impacts the cuts could have. Scholten highlighted a family with two blind daughters who rely on Medicaid, she said the cuts would leave many families like theirs without health care coverage. \u2018Cuts to Medicaid mean pulling the rug out from families like Abby’s, forcing working moms to go without postpartum support, and shuttering community health centers that serve so many across the state.\u2019\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lawmakers say they’re worried about the impact on providers, especially those living in rural areas. \u2018Already, we are seeing rural hospitals really struggle to stay afloat.
