In response to Mike Johnson saying Republicans \u201chave a plan\u201d to cut Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, <\/em>DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cRepublicans \u2018have a plan\u2019 to cut Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid \u2014 House Speaker Mike Johnson just said it himself. Johnson is \u2018committing\u2019 to seeing through Donald Trump\u2019s dangerous threat<\/a> to gut Americans\u2019 hard-earned benefits and access to health care. No matter how the GOP dresses it up, the reality is they\u2019re jumping at the opportunity to rip away critical programs so they can further line billionaires\u2019 pockets.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

MAGA House Speaker Mike Johnson confirmed Republicans \u201chave a plan\u201d to cut Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid \u2014 just like Donald Trump <\/strong>called<\/strong><\/a> to do.  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mike Johnson<\/a>: \u201cThere\u2019s two categories of spending in the federal government. Mandatory spending is on the programs Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, \u2026 it\u2019s 73, 74% of spending, <\/strong>which is on autopilot, which is frightening. Ok, that\u2019s something we have to address, and we have a plan to do it.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mike Johnson<\/a>: \u201cI am committing that we will do that<\/strong>\u2026\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Trump\u2019s request, House Republicans already voted to cut Medicaid \u2014 ripping away health care from millions of Americans and devastating seniors and rural folks \u2014 to fund another round of tax handouts for the ultra-wealthy. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Center on Budget and Policy Priorities<\/a>: \u201cCBO\u2019s early estimates show that at least 13.7 million people would lose coverage and become uninsured because of the Medicaid cuts and the ACA marketplace restrictions in this committee legislation, <\/strong>as well as the fact that the budget legislation does not extend expiring marketplace premium tax credit improvements.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Politico<\/a>: \u201cThe House Energy and Commerce Committee, in a 30-to-24 party-line vote, advanced<\/strong> the health care section of the GOP\u2019s sweeping tax bill that would slash Medicaid spending by hundreds of billions<\/strong> of dollars.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

West Virginia Watch<\/a>: \u201cMedicaid cuts could hurt older adults who rely on home care, nursing homes\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Senate Republicans are also eyeing Medicare cuts and confirmed Trump blessed possible cuts to the program, which provides health care for over <\/strong>66 million<\/strong><\/a> Americans. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Politico<\/a>: \u201cSenate Republicans are eyeing possible Medicare provisions to help offset the cost of their megabill<\/strong> \u2026 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSenate Republicans are now seriously considering [Medicare cuts]<\/strong> as they race to pass their party-line tax and spending package before a self-imposed July 4 deadline. The idea came up in closed-door meetings this week and, crucially, some Republicans believe President Donald Trump is on board with touching the program\u201d  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump has already moved to gut the Social Security Administration, threatening hard-earned benefits for millions of Americans amid a 50-year low on staffing.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Axios<\/a>: \u201cAn internal memo from the Social Security Administration proposes changes to its phone service that could derail the benefits application process for many Americans. \u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe draft of the memo viewed by Axios says the proposed limitations will be \u2018significant\u2019 for those living in rural areas in particular.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NextGov<\/a>: \u201cAt least five of the eight regional commissioners whose offices oversee and support the agency\u2019s frontline offices across the country are leaving, <\/strong>according to a source familiar with the agency and an SSA employee not authorized to speak on the record. \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTheir departures come amid rumors of impending staff cuts at SSA, where the workforce is already at a 50-year low and has toiled amid a customer service crisis born of lack of funding.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump has a long history of attacking Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid \u2014 including trying to cut the programs every year of his first term. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Washington Post<\/a>: \u201cHis avowed stance, however, is at odds with Trump\u2019s own record as president: Each of his White House budget proposals included cuts to Social Security and Medicare programs.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his FY18<\/a>, FY19<\/a>, FY20<\/a>, and FY21<\/a> budgets, Trump repeatedly proposed hundreds of billions in cuts to Medicaid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
