In response to Ohio Republicans\u2019 dangerous plans to criminalize women\u2019s reproductive rights, <\/em>DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMere days after an anti-abortion fanatic targeted and killed reproductive rights advocates, Republicans in the Ohio legislature have decided that women who receive abortions are the actual threat. Ohio Republicans intend to charge women who receive abortions with homicide, ban IVF, and even some forms of contraception, as they proudly go against the people of Ohio. Nearly three years ago, Donald Trump opened the door to these extreme anti-choice policies through the overturning of Roe v. Wade<\/em>. Now, with Trump\u2019s blessing, the far-right has declared war on women\u2019s rights.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOhio Republican lawmakers are planning to introduce a bill that would completely ban and criminalize abortion, IVF and some forms of contraception.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This news comes on the heels of political assassinations that occurred in Minnesota this weekend, as reports confirm the shooter targeted pro-choice advocates and health care providers while harboring extreme anti-abortion sentiments.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

New York Times<\/a>: \u201cThe suspect in the assassination of a Minnesota state lawmaker and the shooting of a second possessed written papers that mentioned dozens of potential targets, some in neighboring states, including politicians, civic leaders, abortion rights advocates and Planned Parenthood centers, according to law enforcement officials.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mother Jones<\/a>: \u201cMinnesota Shooter\u2019s List Reportedly Included Abortion Providers and Advocates\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMuch is still unknown about the suspect\u2019s motivations. A longtime friend of Boelter told CNN on Saturday that the alleged shooter was a staunch opponent of abortion rights. On Meet the Press Sunday, Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) said, \u2018There clearly was some through line with abortion because of the groups that were on the list and other things that I\u2019ve heard were in this manifesto.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the overturn of <\/strong>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong>, studies have shown that state abortion bans lead to more dangerous and deadly health outcomes for women.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NBC News:<\/a> A Dramatic Rise in Pregnant Women Dying in Texas After Abortion Ban<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CNN<\/a>: <\/strong>\u201cIn the new paper, published Monday in JAMA Pediatrics, Singh and co-author Dr. Maria Gallo, a professor of epidemiology and associate dean of research with the Ohio State University College of Public Health, compared infant mortality rates for the 18 months following the Dobbs decision against historical trends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey found that infant mortality was higher than usual in the US in several months after the Dobbs decision and never dropped to rates that were lower than expected.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn the months that infant mortality was higher than expected \u2013 October 2022, March 2023 and April 2023 \u2013 rates were about 7% higher than typical, leading to an average of 247 more infant deaths in each of those months.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
