Today, they confirmed they don\u2019t care if seniors get kicked out of nursing homes, if 4.2 million Americans lose health insurance under the Affordable Care Act, or if pregnant mothers go without care \u2014 just as long as their billionaire donors get their tax handouts.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>WATCH: Senate Democrats \u2014 led by Senators <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/XA-g3ZA5MG0\"><strong>Jack Reed<\/strong><\/a><strong>,<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/JIMoWIY41e4\"><strong>Jon Ossoff<\/strong><\/a><strong>, and <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/xl33AQ2VLpA\"><strong>Lisa Blunt Rochester<\/strong><\/a><strong> \u2014 are fighting to fund maternal health care, prevent nursing homes from closing, and preventing 4.2 million Americans from losing coverage under the ACA.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh7-rt.googleusercontent.com\/docsz\/AD_4nXeryRbZhptlPTS_ne9gg1uDzN4DBR1kMiY4nUjv0arZanYqdtx0GJrpelM4w3VqFDw7MR3XqiLGZ1m0ky_GH3pyHkWfun_Ky9SMldcA2IjWXtRnpfJfAjnbqy0bNag_h3xEe7m2?key=COoERzaKAwCM8_6DqtZ0Gg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/XA-g3ZA5MG0\">Senator Jack Reed<\/a>:<strong> \u201cMedicaid is a lifeline for seniors. More than 7 million seniors get care through Medicaid. In 2 of 3 nursing homes, residents pay for that care with Medicaid. <\/strong>The bill we are voting [on] today takes away key revenue sources for states and nursing homes. Brown University School of Public Health has estimated that <strong>579 nursing homes nationwide would be at risk of closing because of this bill. And even if nursing homes do not close, then they will have to reduce their beds. This motion would simply prevent any cuts in Medicaid that could lead to nursing home closures.\u201d&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh7-rt.googleusercontent.com\/docsz\/AD_4nXcDFO3yXjc3Vz7SVPISMlV2A1qPQNEkhiGVZZeeZx8MTXqI8KLC28til4pbRiqXHo8yjBjpOv2od8939VWFJhbK7D4_PiZBrrrq61ep_4X_FEMQC7uB25MkX7nJOw--Lo95yhXR?key=COoERzaKAwCM8_6DqtZ0Gg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/JIMoWIY41e4\">Senator Jon Ossoff<\/a>: \u201cInstead of adding trillions to the debt and tax cuts for the rich while destroying Medicaid and renewable energy, I propose we help our constituents afford health insurance. <strong>If we allow Affordable Care Act benefits to expire as this bill would, more than a million Georgians will pay more for health insurance next year. \u2026 The AJC, our paper, reports 300,000 Georgians would lose insurance altogether,<\/strong> and that&#8217;s on top of the cuts to Medicaid and hospitals. <strong>A vote against this amendment is a vote to gut the Affordable Care Act and raise health insurance premiums. I urge a yes vote.\u201d&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh7-rt.googleusercontent.com\/docsz\/AD_4nXccrk3W6kAQ01EvrVoM9dsOIWnsGX-0rtmXjnZO925Yw0hQ7UWT4vg-pX1sHto5EGLvItWSNTzCeDC1UV7Zz6tyZHVzUM763vKiLAQwRF29vwD5CsfSeMpeDhZKnD8Fdu8xxJ4a?key=COoERzaKAwCM8_6DqtZ0Gg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/xl33AQ2VLpA\">Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester<\/a>: <strong>\u201cIn one of the richest countries in the world, we have maternal and infant mortality crises.<\/strong> In fact, we have the highest maternal mortality rate among wealthy nations. Today, <strong>Medicaid is the single largest payer of maternity care in the United States, covering 40% of births nationwide and nearly half of the births in our rural communities.<\/strong> \u2026 To be blunt, <strong>now is not the time to be slashing the Medicaid program. <\/strong>My amendment would stop cuts to Medicaid used for vital hospital services, especially labor and delivery rooms. Leader Thune said it himself earlier today that Medicaid should be for pregnant moms. <strong>So my colleagues, we have a choice. Do we stand for billionaires or do we stand up for moms and babies?
