In response to Senate Republicans voting against a bill to ban stock trading by members of Congress, presidents, and vice presidents,<\/em> <\/em>DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhile working families are drowning in high costs, Senate Republicans are singularly focused on making sure they can keep lining their pockets to the tune of millions of dollars. The GOP ran on \u2018draining the swamp\u2019 and ending corruption in D.C., only to keep their grifts going. They don\u2019t give a rat\u2019s ass about their constituents\u2019 pocketbooks \u2014 as long as their investment portfolios keep growing.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

NEW: Senate Republicans voted against a ban on stock trading for members of Congress, presidents, and vice presidents. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHawley was the lone GOP yes vote\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump said he would \u201cabsolutely\u201d sign a ban on trading \u2014 up until one of his Republican lackeys warned him that the ban included the executive branch \u2014 and now the White House is lobbying against the bill. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

THEN:<\/strong> TIME<\/a>: \u201c[Reporter:] Would you support a ban on congressional stock trading? <\/strong>\u2026 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c[Donald Trump:] I would be okay with it<\/strong>. If they send that to me, I would do it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c[Reporter:] You\u2019ll sign it?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c[Trump:] Absolutely.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe White House is lobbying Republican senators to vote down a bill that would put new restrictions on the trading of stocks by members of Congress, the president and the vice president. \u2026 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe view from 1600 Penn: The White House doesn\u2019t specifically object to a stock trading ban for members of Congress. But they are opposed to the ban for the executive branch<\/strong>, an administration source told us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Andrew Desiderio, Punchbowl News<\/a>: \u201cIt was Sen. Rick Scott who first alerted the White House about the stock ban bill, making a similar argument as he did today in cmte: That the bill targets Trump\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Senator Rick Scott<\/a>: \u201cDoes anyone want to be poor? I don\u2019t \u2026 I think it\u2019s disgusting what is going on here. \u2026 This is an attack against the president, and an attack against the vice president.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the bill passed out of committee, Trump threw a temper tantrum on social media, attacking the one Republican senator who <\/strong>did<\/em><\/strong> vote for the ban. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201c[Democrats are] using Josh Hawley, who I got elected TWICE, as a pawn to help them. I wonder why Hawley would pass a Bill that Nancy Pelosi is in absolute love with<\/strong> \u2014 He is playing right into the dirty hands of the Democrats. It\u2019s a great Bill for her, and her \u2018husband,\u2019 but so bad for our Country!
