There\u2019s only one word for today\u2019s jobs numbers<\/a>: disastrous. Only 22,000 jobs<\/a> were added in August \u2013 well below expectations \u2013 including job losses in the manufacturing sector, which are now down 78,000 total for the year. The report also showed that jobs numbers were worse than we originally thought in the prior two months \u2013 June\u2019s number was revised down further to -13,000, the first month of negative job growth since 2020. The unemployment rate ticked up to 4.3%, the highest it\u2019s been since October 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIs this economy the \u2018golden age\u2019 Donald Trump promised? Trump sold out the middle class, and now working families are being squeezed from every angle: layoffs are mounting, jobs are disappearing, and prices continue to skyrocket while billionaires are cashing in on his massive tax cuts. Despite Trump\u2019s attempts to pull the wool over the public\u2019s eyes, there\u2019s no denying the real economic pain that his billionaire-first agenda is causing working families.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today\u2019s job numbers are the latest example of Trump\u2019s catastrophic economy. A new report<\/a> yesterday showed that employers cut over 85,000 jobs in August \u2013 the worst August since 2020 and aside from that, the worst since the Great Recession. Nearly 900,000 jobs have been cut so far in 2025, up 66% from this point last year. For the first time in years, there are more unemployed people<\/a> than job openings, and the hiring rate has fallen<\/a> to near its lowest level since 2013. Manufacturing has contracted for six straight months, with factory orders<\/a> down three of the last four months. Meanwhile, prices keep climbing<\/a>, farmers are being squeezed<\/a>, and businesses are in survival mode<\/a> under Trump\u2019s failed economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yesterday, Trump preemptively tried to downplay the jobs numbers by claiming we wouldn\u2019t see \u201creal\u201d jobs numbers<\/a> until next year \u2013 even though he fired the previous jobs commissioner and is installing his own lackey to try to cook the books at the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Trump can try to dodge accountability all he wants \u2013 but there\u2019s no escaping how Americans really feel about his economy<\/a>.  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
