In response to <\/em>new reporting<\/em><\/a> highlighting how Donald Trump is taking credit for infrastructure projects funded through President Biden\u2019s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, despite railing against them, <\/em>DNC Communications Director Rosemary Boeglin released the following statement:  <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAmerica is bleeding manufacturing jobs under Donald Trump, and instead of lifting a finger to actually help the American worker, Trump is resorting to his old tricks: lying and taking credit for someone else\u2019s work. Here are the facts: Trump railed against the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law when it passed, calling the historic investments a \u2018loser.\u2019 Now, as our economy sputters, experts increasingly expect a recession, and tens of thousands of manufacturing jobs get destroyed, Trump is trying to use the Biden administration\u2019s successes he vehemently opposed as a lifeboat. It\u2019s clear once again that Donald Trump is the real loser.\u201d        <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Historic investments in manufacturing and infrastructure construction led to a jobs boom in the United States under the Biden-Harris administration. In less than a year, Donald Trump\u2019s chaotic policies have squandered that progress and destroyed tens of thousands of manufacturing jobs.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTariffs were supposed to bring back manufacturing jobs: instead, the U.S. has lost 12,000 over the past month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAugust was the fourth straight month of declines for manufacturing jobs, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said Friday, as part of a report that showed an overall slump in the job market. Manufacturing employment is down 78,000 since last August, and there are now fewer people working in the sector than at any time since March 2022.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

CNN<\/a>: \u201cTrump\u2019s shock-and-awe tariffs haven\u2019t fueled a manufacturing jobs boom\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFactory hiring plunged in May, below even the Covid-19 pandemic pace, to the weakest rate since 2016 <\/strong>under President Barack Obama, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Manufacturing job openings \u2014 a sign of what\u2019s to come \u2014 have plunged by nearly 100,000 since Trump took office.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cInstead of giving bosses a reason to hire, the whiplash approach to the trade war is sowing confusion and uncertainty. CEOs need clarity on where tariffs will be in the long run. But under Trump, it\u2019s not even clear where tariffs will be at the end of the day, let alone the end of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018It\u2019s a policy choice to sow this much uncertainty. And that uncertainty has a cost,\u2019 said Betsey Stevenson, professor of economics and public policy at the University of Michigan and a former chief economist at the Department of Labor under Obama.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instead of changing course and supporting job creation, the Trump administration is plastering signs with Donald Trump\u2019s name at the sites of infrastructure projects funded by President Biden\u2019s historic 2021 Infrastructure Law \u2014 which Trump railed against and once called \u201ca loser for the U.S.A.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn recent months, a number of similar signs have popped up in front of major infrastructure projects financed by the bipartisan 2021 legislation, a $1.2 trillion package that Mr. Trump, who left office in January of that year, had passionately railed against. He called the bill \u2018a loser for the U.S.A.,\u2019 and warned that Republican lawmakers who signed on could be thrown out of office by angry primary voters. \u2018Patriots will never forget!\u2019 he wrote.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe signs note, in a smaller font, that the projects in question are \u2018funded by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act,\u2019 the official name of the legislation that Mr. Trump tried to derail. <\/strong>\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cRepresentative Joe Courtney, a Connecticut Democrat who represents the area where the Connecticut River Bridge is being replaced, said seeing the sign with Mr. Trump\u2019s name there \u2018is just, you know, very odd to me.\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe added: \u2018That bridge would never have gotten where it is today without that bill, which he opposed.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This isn\u2019t the first time Trump touted Biden\u2019s accomplishments as his own. Back in July, the Trump administration tried to take credit for more than $1 trillion in U.S. investments made under President Biden. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reuters<\/a>: \u201cBut a Reuters review found that just under half of the claimed spending on the website – totaling more than $1.3 trillion – originated under former President Joe Biden or represented routine spending repackaged to promote domestic investments.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAt least eight of the projects touted by the White House had sought or secured critical local incentive packages before Trump took office while at least a half dozen other projects had already been announced by local officials or the companies themselves.<\/strong> \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n
