New economic data shows that consumer sentiment worsened<\/a> this month, particularly with lower- and middle-income consumers. This comes on the heels of inflation accelerating last month to its highest rate since January<\/a>, with prices rising on everything from groceries to gas to clothing to airline fares. Americans are worried<\/a> about rising inflation and the cold job market, and tariffs are top of mind for most. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWasn\u2019t it just last week that Donald Trump said he had \u2018already solved inflation,\u2019 and that \u2018costs are down?\u2019 To no one\u2019s surprise, that\u2019s not the case \u2014 and Americans know it. Trump\u2019s reckless economic agenda has jacked up prices and cost tens of thousands of jobs \u2014 leaving working families to worry about how they\u2019re going to make ends meet. Let\u2019s not forget: This is a mess of Trump\u2019s own making, and instead of focusing on combating inflation and bringing down prices, he\u2019s sticking by his failed economic policies.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last week\u2019s economic data brought bad news all around. The reports showed that the US economy may be in a state of early-onset stagflation<\/a>, meaning that the economy is slowing down, but prices are going up. On top of that, data on wages was disastrous: Real hourly wages<\/a> decreased again<\/a> in August \u2014 including for manufacturing workers<\/a> \u2014 and wages for blue-collar workers stagnated<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s no wonder working families are worried about their pocketbooks<\/a>. Trump\u2019s unhinged tariffs<\/a> have jacked up prices<\/a> and made it impossible to find a job<\/a> \u2014 with the number of Americans receiving unemployment benefits<\/a> near the highest level in the past four years. Farmers<\/a> are struggling, businesses say their costs have risen<\/a> and that Trump\u2019s policies are to blame, and the manufacturing sector is shrinking, with 33,000 manufacturing jobs<\/a> lost since Trump entered office. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
