Trump\u2019s Director of the National Economic Council Called Democrats\u2019 Plan To Lower Health Care Costs & Extend Coverage \u201cEmbarrassingly Silly\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Donald Trump and Republicans are to blame for the looming government shutdown. To avert a shutdown, Democrats introduced a common-sense proposal<\/a> last week that would reverse the devastating Medicaid cuts in Trump\u2019s billionaire-first budget bill and extend critical ACA subsidies \u2014 but Republicans flat out rejected it to satisfy Trump\u2019s ego and their billionaire donors. Just this morning, Trump\u2019s top economic advisor, Kevin Hassett, referred to Democrats’ demands to protect health care for millions as an \u201cembarrassingly silly offer<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s despicable that Donald Trump and his rubber-stamp Republicans are willing to let the government shut down in order to push forward a massive health care crisis for millions of Americans. After already passing the LARGEST health care cut in history, Republicans are threatening to make health care even MORE expensive for working families. Democrats are ready for Republicans to come to the table and make a deal that doesn\u2019t do further damage to working families.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Republicans are about to let ACA subsidies<\/a> that reduce health care premium costs expire \u2014 at the same time that working families are bracing for the devastating Medicaid cuts in Trump\u2019s billionaire-first budget bill. If Republicans continue to block the Democrats\u2019 proposal, 22 million Americans will face higher insurance premiums next year \u2014 by an average of more than 75%<\/a> \u2014 which could have ripple effects that devastate the entire health care market.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
