Vice President J.D. Vance has finally<\/a> found his policy portfolio: shutting down the government and raising health care costs for millions of Americans. Headline<\/a> after headline<\/a> after headline<\/a> reflect the same thing: Vance is the face of the Republican Shutdown. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, Vance went on to disparage<\/a> the Democrats\u2019 common-sense proposal to keep the government open, lower health care costs for more than 22 million Americans<\/a>, and prevent the disastrous Medicaid cuts in his and Trump\u2019s billionaire-first budget. Newsflash for Vance: the American public<\/a> disagrees. A poll in June found that 77% of Americans support<\/a> extending the enhanced ACA subsidies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then there\u2019s the hypocrisy of it all: Back in 2024<\/a>, Vance supported Congressional Republicans trying to force a government shutdown to get what they wanted. This time around, apparently, Vance doesn\u2019t think keeping health care costs affordable for millions of Americans is reason enough. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cJD Vance thinks the \u2018right\u2019 thing to do is to rip health care away from tens of millions of Americans, raise health care costs for millions more, and shutter rural hospitals that provide lifesaving care to communities all across this country. In just 8 months in office, the Trump-Vance administration has betrayed working Americans countless times \u2014 by failing to address inflation, raising costs on everyday items, and making their lives harder at every turn.
