New economic data<\/a> shows consumer confidence plummeted more than expected to the lowest level since Donald Trump\u2019s \u201cLiberation Day\u201d in April, as fears of recession rose to the highest level since May. If that\u2019s not bad enough, consumers\u2019 appraisal<\/a> of job availability reached a new multiyear low. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

New data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics revealed that there are fewer job openings than unemployed workers, and the hiring rate for the trade and transportation industry is at a 12-year low<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just today, Trump said repeatedly in a speech that tariff is his \u201cfavorite word<\/a>\u201d \u2014 even though his reckless tariffs and billionaire-first agenda are to blame for high prices<\/a> and disappearing jobs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In response, <\/em><\/strong>DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement<\/em><\/strong>: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTrump continues to send the economy into a spiral as he sends the government into a shutdown. Americans are enduring month after month of economic hardship as prices climb, jobs disappear, and working families worry about how they\u2019re going to pay their bills. Trump is burying his head in the sand and insisting that the economy is \u2018back on track,\u2019 but working and middle-class families know the truth because they\u2019re feeling the economic pain every day.\u201d  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite Trump\u2019s claims that he\u2019s \u201csolved inflation<\/a>,\u201d costs keep climbing, and tariffs are what\u2019s driving them higher. It\u2019s no wonder that a staggering<\/a> 72% of Americans say the economy is in only poor or fair condition, and 45-32% of voters say the economy has gotten worse under Trump\u2019s watch. That\u2019s not the only warning sign for Trump: Over 60% of Americans disapprove<\/a> of Donald Trump\u2019s handling of the economy, and 75% of Americans believe<\/a> the country is on the wrong track, including a majority of Republicans<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
