In response to a <\/em>new poll<\/em><\/a><\/strong> released today showing that only 12 percent of Americans approve of the Republican Senate health care repeal bill, DNC Chair Tom Perez released the following statement:<\/em><\/p>\n

“Democrats believe that health care is a right, not a privilege, and we will continue to fight each day until that becomes a reality for every American. This bill will hurt millions of Americans across the country, including American workers, women, children, older Americans and middle-class families. This 12% approval is more reason that instead of delaying, Republicans should stop their attempts to take away health care from millions of Americans and work with Democrats to improve upon the Affordable Care Act. Until then, we won’t stop making our voices heard.”<\/p>\n

Just 12% of Americans support the Senate Republican health care plan, a new USA TODAY\/Suffolk University Poll finds, amid a roiling debate over whether the GOP will deliver on its signature promise to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act.<\/p>\n

In the survey, taken Saturday through Tuesday, a 53% majority say Congress should either leave the law known as Obamacare alone or work to fix its problems while keeping its framework intact.<\/p>\n

But the dilemma for the GOP is this: Eight in 10 Republicans support repeal, and close to a third say the law should be repealed even if a replacement health care plan isn't ready yet. Just 11% of independents and 2% of Democrats feel that way.<\/p>\n

The divide between the demands of the GOP base and the skepticism of the broader electorate helps explain why Senate Republican leaders have been forced to delay a vote<\/a> as they scramble for the 50 votes needed to pass a measure.<\/p>\n
