The White House says to “look at the tables” and has repeatedly cited the Joint Committee on Taxation to claim the Republican tax plan delivers tax relief to the middle class:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Gary Cohn<\/a>: “He said the message to lawmakers voting on the tax package is that both the House and Senate versions lessen the tax burden for middle class families. ‘The only way to grade whether it’s successful or not is to literally look at the tables, look at the distributions <\/strong>and say, does this do what we want it do and does it deliver tax relief to hardworking American families?”<\/p>\n

Marc Short<\/a>: “What the Joint Committee on Taxation said<\/strong>, a nonpartisan organization, is they affirm that for every middle income family, let’s say middle income in America, they define as a 59,000 dollar income. Every bracket would get a tax relief, and that those in the middle income would receive tax relief for about $1,182 on average.”<\/p>\n

But the Joint Committee on Taxation’s tables say working-class families will face tax increases:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Washington Post Wonkblog<\/a>: “The tax bill Senate Republicans are championing would give large tax cuts to millionaires while raising taxes on American families earning $10,000 to $75,000 over the next decade<\/strong>, according to a report released Thursday by the Joint Committee on Taxation, Congress' official nonpartisan analysts.”<\/p>\n

Wall Street Journal<\/a>: “By 2027, After Individual Tax Cuts Would Expire, Every Income Group Under $75,000 Would Have Tax Increases, On Average<\/strong>.”<\/p>\n
